This article contains spoilers for Invincible season 1.
Between new Marvel Cinematic Universe series and reboots of DC films, the superhero genre has inundated audiences with content at every turn of late. Even people who can’t get enough of seeing Loki grapple with time travel or Michael Keaton cameo as Batman may find it a tad bit overwhelming and stale to be hit with the same old stuff. Thanks to offbeat, unique shows like The Boys and Invincible, however, the superhero genre has a couple of beacons of revolutionary hope for the future.
The latter show is where we’ll turn our focus, as the second season of Robert Kirkman’s (of The Walking Dead fame) comic book adaptation is about to launch the first of its eight episodes on Nov. 3. If you’re a little fuzzy on the details of the first season and where we left off, you’re probably in the majority.

On the whole, heavy metal was quite polarizing throughout the 90’s. The first half of the decade was generally popular with fans but the second half witnessed the formation of the sub-genre nu-metal which many saw as a watered down product that betrayed the origins of heavy metal.
When it came to prominence in the late 90’s, many bands saw it as an opportunity for quick access to a more mainstream audience and witnessed bands like Machine Head, Judas Priest and even Megadeth succumb to its tantalizing promises, and ultimately, falling short of their goals.
But this wasn’t the only change happening at the time, because many bands were also changing their sound and creating entirely new sub-genres by shifting themselves into new artistic directions. Many were also refining their sound further by utilizing new production techniques not available to them before, as well as expanding their...

Like many British keyboardists who came into prominence in the late ’60s, Lord cut his teeth on classical music before starting his career in various jazz and blues bands. He moved on to rock ’n’ roll session work—including a credit on The Kinks’ 1964 classic, “You Really Got Me”—and played in various short-lived groups like Santa Barbara Machine Head, which featured The Creation’s Kim ...

Ladies and gentlemen, Chopper has arrived. And the tense initial offering has set the stage for the horror that is sure to come. Featuring a showdown between horror big boys Tyler Mane and Andrew Bryniarski, the first episode of Chopper, entitled Slice 1, certainly does a nice job setting the stage in the biker-themed horror series.

Machine Head – one of the most enduring and popular metal bands of modern times will soon release the follow-up to their Grammy nominated, fantastic album, The Blackening. This new release is called Unto The Locust, and it is scheduled for release on September 27th.
Many fans will have taken the time to listen to the first release from the album, Locust, which was released on June 14th and they would have been more than happy with what they heard. Rise To Remain are a band taking the underground metal scene in the UK by storm. The band is made up by: Austin Dickinson (vocalist and son of Iron Maiden vocalist, Bruce Dickinson), Joe Copcutt (bass), Pat Lundy (drums), Ben Tovey (guitar) and Will Homer (guitar).
First formed in late 2006, playing under the name ‘Halide’, the band first gained recognition, although on a small scale, after the release of a three track Ep (which was a viral release through their Myspace page). At first, this release didn’t get much attention, but through word-of-mouth and, undoubtedly, shameless self-promotion this led them to play gigs as support for more established metal bands such as Eternal Lord, Viatrophy, Exit Ten and Sylosis. It was at the Sylosis gig that they had their first big-break, as they were offered to play at Download festival on the smaller stage normally reserved for up-and-coming, exciting bands.
First formed in late 2006, playing under the name ‘Halide’, the band first gained recognition, although on a small scale, after the release of a three track Ep (which was a viral release through their Myspace page). Our Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival interviews continue with Machine Head’s lead guitarist, Phil Demmel. We were a bit intimidated to chat with the metal musician since Machine Head has been there and done that. With a total of 6 studio albums and a career spanning across two decades, the quartet knows how to deliver successful album sales without compromising their metal authenticity. That’s true musical talent for you. Our built up anxiety was pretty much all for nothing. Demmel had a laidback demeanor, but was extremely enthusiastic to discuss anything regarding Machine Head. Who wouldn’t be? Especially when the group has a jam packed touring schedule and is also...

Athens, Ohio’s Skeletonwitch will release its new album, “Forever Abomination”, on October 11 via Prosthetic Records. The follow-up to 2009′s “Breathing The Fire” was recorded at a Los Angeles studio with producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Machine Head, Kreator). The effort will include the track “The Infernal Resurrection”, the demo version of which appears as the B-side on the final seven-inch of a limited-edition vinyl trilogy. This marks Skeletonwitch’s first recording with the group’s new drummer, former Demiricous skin-pounder Dustin Boltjes. Skeletonwitch will take part in a fall North American tour alongside Arch Enemy, Devildriver and Chthonic, and has just confirmed “off-date” shows along with Devildriver. Australian thrash metallers Frankenbok have just launched their most brutal video yet – a blistering performance piece for the new single "Dine in Hell," a 300-inspired track from their upcoming studio album The End of All You Know. On the flipside, we've got the clip and more info about the band – including a taste of their plans for 2011. Hit the jump and prepare for battle! Formed in Melbourne in 1997, Frankenbok have built a solid following down under with their caustic blend of old school thrash and hard rock, earning them touring gigs with big names like Slayer, Machine Head, System of a Down, Fear Factory, Soilwork and Skinlab. The band is embarking on an international tour this summer, with dates...

It’s been a decade since the last entry in the Scream trilogy hit theatres, and now we wait to see how they can squeeze more blood from the proverbial stone. This time, Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is a writer of a self-help book, who while on tour promoting it ends up in Woodsboro in time for the 15th anniversary of the original murders. And of course, with her reunion with friends and family comes the inevitable return of Ghostface, who is taking his or her cues from horror remakes. The murders are similar to the original film’s murders, but with a 21st-century twist (one could write a dissertation on the irony of Wes Craven making such commentary on horror remakes when he has handed several of his own properties over for remaking, but that’s for another day).

Machine Head rocker Robb Flynn is pleading with fans to help him find four priceless guitars taken from his house during a break-in. The guitarist was left devastated when he returned home on Tuesday, September 7 after picking his son up from school to find numerous personal items missing.
And he has been left particularly heartbroken over an instrument he used during the recording of the band's debut album, and another given to him as a gift from late Pantera rocker 'Dimebag Darrell' Abbott. Flynn has issued an appeal for the return of the guitars, and promises a reward to anyone who can help locate them.
In a message on Machine Head's official website, he writes, "Today, (Tuesday) September 7th, between the hours of 1.15pm. and 3.15pm (Pst) while I was picking my son up from school, my house (which is located in the Martinez/Virginia Hills area...

Pop group Backstreet Boys have sparked outrage among heavy metal fans in India after it was announced they will follow Iron Maiden as a headliner for the upcoming Rock in India festival. The event marked the first ever rock festival in India when it kicked off in 2008, with Megadeth and Machine Head playing top of the bill. Iron Maiden took the stage in 2009.
But festival organizers have taken an abrupt turn from the heavy metal genre, booking Backstreet Boys and Richard Marx for the 2010 line up. Local music critics have blasted organizers for the shift, but festival bosses are standing by their decision to book the aging teen sensations.

The Backstreet Boys have caused outcry among heavy metal fans in India after being announced ahead of Iron Maiden as headliner for the upcoming Rock In India Festival. The alternative music event was the first of its kind in India when it opened in 2008, with Megadeth and Machine Head topping the bill. Iron Maiden closed the bash in 2009. However, festival bosses have attracted widespread criticism for this year's lineup, which has largely ditched metal bands in favour of more mainstream acts such as The Backstreet Boys and Richard Marx. Despite the backlash, organisers are standing by their decision, saying: "There has been (more)...

If you’re into metal or hardcore, chances are you have a Hatebreed record in your collection. Known for their crushing live shows and tireless efforts, the band has been a fixture in heavy music for the past fifteen years. With a growing following based on a mutual loyalty and respect between the band and their audience, the Grammy-nominated band closes out 2009 with a hit album on a new label, energized by their return to independence.
At the center of all things Hatebreed is Jamey Jasta - the multi-tasking frontman not only of Hatebreed, but also of Kingdom Of Sorrow and Icepick. Balancing music with running his own label Stillborn Records, and a clothing line called Hatewear without ever seeming spread too thin, Jasta has his sights set on conquering even more frontiers in the near future.

British thrashers Evile recently recorded a Pantera track for the upcoming Dimebag Darrell tribute album (which we last reported on here), which will be released on the cover of the 200th issue of the UK's Metal Hammer magazine. The special CD and magazine are being released to coincide with the five-year anniversary of Dimebag's passing, and will be available in shops on December 16th.
Alongside various other well-known bands such as Machine Head, Evile were asked to record a song as a tribute to the late guitarist. Evile recorded a cover of the track "Cemetary Gates", and this tragically turned out to be the band's last recording before the untimely death of their own bassist, Mike Alexander, who passed away on October 5th while on tour in Sweden.

It's been a huge year for England's Malefice. They've been to India to perform for thousands of insane Indian metalheads and documented the trip Here and Here, played at Bloodstock '09, toured Europe relentlessly and released their Metal Blade debut album, Dawn Of Reprisal. In addition, the band sat down with Fangoria back in April for an installment of Fangoria Musick's Lists Of Doom (read it here). But, the Brits aren't quite done yet as they have finished work on the video for one of the best tracks from the record called Architect Of Your Demise. Our friends over at MetalInjection.net have been premiering this video exclusively and you can now watch it below! The video was directed by Scott Fulton and Eyesmash Productions. Check it out and enjoy Malefice's brand of quality, honest British metal!

In the vast ocean of metal, you’d be hard-pressed to find a musician as respected as Max Cavalera. After spending the better half of two decades as the frontman of Sepultura, the Brazilian guitarist/vocalist has been working almost non-stop since 1997 with his current band, Soulfly in addition to side projects including the Cavalera Conspiracy, reuniting with his brother Igor, former drummer of Sepultura.
With Soulfly set to embark on a U.S. tour later this month, the often-elusive Cavalera took time out from tour prep for a phone interview with Fangoria Musick to talk music, his love of horror (Coffin Joe!), and what the future holds for the band.
James Zahn/Fangoria: So you’re getting geared up for another tour here pretty soon.
Max Cavalera: Yep, we’re going back out on the road in a little more than two weeks.

Who took home prizes at this year's Kerrang! Awards have been announced at a gala ceremony held in London on August 3. Out of thirteen categories, Slipknot were the only band who walked home with more than one prize.
This rock band received two kudos at the annual awards. They were named Best International Band, winning over Green Day, Metallica, Madina Lake and Lamb of God. They also got Best Live Band title, beating Metallica, Enter Shikari, The Prodigy and Gallows.
"It feels really gratifying," frontman Corey Taylor, who co-hosted the event, told Kerrang! Magazine concerning their victories. "If there was ever a band that had to fight against controversy and misconception it was this band, and we're really starting to kind of get to the point where the respect is getting there - and rightly so. I can't think of many bands that have worked harder, and it really feels...

Every week, MTV Newsroom editor Kyle Anderson runs an in-office poll on the topic du jour. The idea is to acquaint you readers with some of the crazy people who inhabit the MTV newsroom. Last week's poll asked the difficult question: what is your favorite film soundtrack of all time?
As you've likely already figured out, that's a particularly relevant topic for MTV Movies Blog. I didn't have much trouble with my pick: "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight." Here's what I had to say to the Newsroom audience:
"This one is easy for me, though it may earn me a few behind-the-back snickers around the office. The soundtrack to "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight" remains my favorite to this day. It dropped while I was in high school, and every track was something I wanted to go home and crank up to 11. Let's start with the face-melting crunch: Sepultura,...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTVNews.com. This week, details surfaced about one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the fall. No, not Jay-z's The Blueprint 3 or Lil Wayne's Rebirth. We're talking about the soundtrack to "New Moon," which will likely feature contributions from Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Muse, Kings of Leon and Death Cab for Cutie. There was also the announcement of the soundtrack to "Jennifer's Body," the new Diablo Cody-penned horror film. It's time for another installment of Fangoria Musick's Lists Of Doom - the column where we track down some of your favorite (or soon-to-be favorite) bands to get their thoughts on on the world of horror.
For number 15, we caught up with Mika Andre, bassist of the French band, Eryn Non Dae, whose Stateside debut Hydra Lernaia will arrive in-stores on June 23rd via Metal Blade Records. Mika's List of Doom is a bit different than what we usually see, with a strong lean toward Asian Horror.
Mika, the stage is yours...
I’m really into Asian horror movies because of their very calm and restrained atmosphere. Even if it’s a bit overrated now, there’s something very unique Ring had brought at the beginning; a kind of deep esthetic beauty in the horror.
