New York -- With its 35th anniversary looming, Manhattan's Comic Strip Live comedy club will get the documentary treatment.
Production firm Letterbox Pictures said Tuesday that it is about to start production on a feature documentary about the club that helped launch the careers of such comedy superstars as Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Paul Reiser, Larry Miller, George Wallace and Lisa Lampanelli.
Comic Strip founders and owners Richie Tienken and Bob Wachs, as well as writer-filmmaker-comedian Jeffrey Gurian are also on board. Tienken and Wachs used to manage Murphy, Sandler, Tony Rock and Colin Quinn.
The Comic Strip's 35th anniversary year starts in June 2010, and Letterbox plans to release its documentary next summer under the title "Eat, Drink, Laugh" -- the club's tagline.
The film is expected to feature interviews with recognizable faces of comedy recounting memories plus never-before-seen footage of the club throughout its history.
