Director Paul Hough's The Human Race will be available on VOD, iTunes, and in theaters on Friday, June 13. Recently Hough had a chat with fellow director (and actor in The Human Race) Richard Gale (The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon) about his new movie.
We got a chance to eavesdrop on the Q&A between Hough and Gale so that you can dig the conversation between these two top-notch filmmakers below.
Richard Gale: Up until I met Paul Hough, I had never killed anyone before, in a movie or otherwise. I'm first and foremost a filmmaker - I made the horror comedy short The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon, which went viral on YouTube and is currently being developed into a feature film.
Paul Hough: I met Richard on the festival circuit when my film The Angel played at festivals with his amazing short Criticized.

"Pollywogs," the semi-autobiographical improvisational comedy that premiered at last year's Los Angeles Film Festival, is being released by Godigital beginning today on various VOD platforms, including Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, iTunes, PlayStation and Xbox. But there's one scene from the film that you can only see here -- because it was cut from the final version of the film. "Pollywogs" marks actor ("The Roost," "Young American Bodies") and producer ("Happy New Year") Karl Jacob's directorial debut (he co-directed with T. Arthur Cottam). Jacob also wrote the film and plays the lead character, Dylan, who, on the heels of a bitter breakup, returns home to Minnesota for a family reunion where he runs into his childhood sweetheart, Sarah (Kate Lyn Sheil, soon to be seen in season two of "House of Cards"). The deleted scene features "Girls" actor Alex Karpovsky as Dylan's friend who recently embraced his Judaism. Jacob...

Thirty-something Dylan is reeling from a bitter breakup when he travels to Minnesota for a family reunion. His childhood love, Sarah, also returns to their hometown after leaving with her family for years to a religious compound. After not seeing each other for 18 years, will her appearance add to his heartache or will it heal his wounds in “Pollywogs”? “Pollywogs” is premiering and is one of the entries in the narrative competition at this year’s Los Angeles Film Fest. With the film, Karl Jacob, who plays Dylan and is a producer, makes his feature film writing and directing (he co-directed with T. Arthur Cottam) debut that was largely inspired by a rough break-up that he went through. The Virginia, Minn. native had always wanted to do a film in home state, particularly northern Minnesota, and spotlight its culture.

Check out this exclusive clip from Karl Jacob and T. Arthur Cottam's "Pollywogs," making its world premiere in the Narrative Competition lineup at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 14. The film centers on a young man, Dylan (Jacob), who heads for a rural family reunion following a nasty breakup. In the below clip, Dylan meets Sarah (rising indie actress Kate Lyn Sheil), who he grew up with, and the attraction is palpable. The film was shot on location in the woods of Minnesota. More info on "Pollywogs" is here.

Let's face it. Just because we walk upright and possess the power of reason (well at least some of us do) doesn't mean that we're any better than most of the creatures in our animal kingdom. The only hitch? Animals only kill when they have to, but humans? We're just looking for a reason.

Peaches Christ does the unthinkable and returns with a second edition of the wild San Francisco Underground Short Film Festival in 2011! And this new event is a double blow-out with two back-to-back programs of shorts in one scintillating evening.
The fun starts on Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at The Victoria Theatre with the more genteel “Act 1″ block of shorts, compared to the sexy and ultra-violent programming of “Act 2: Shorts After Dark” that begins at 10:10 p.m.
However, with “Act 1″ featuring Waylon Bacon‘s gory and disturbing — and absolutely hilarious — Help Wanted, there’s plenty of outrageousness packed into that first program, so be sure to not miss any of it.
And if 33 short films packed into one night isn’t enough, the entire evening will kick off with Peaches and her co-host Sam Sharkey performing in a live rock show.

On April 22-23, Asbury Park, NJ will once again be taken over by the most toxic film festival in the world! (That’s a good thing.) The 12th annual Tromadance is two days and nights filled with depraved cinematic abuses that will leave you a shattered, emotional wreck. (That’s a good thing, too.)
This year, the fest will screen three feature films, a buttload of shorts, plus two mini-retrospectives.
The features are: 1. Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson‘s gonzo The Taint, a social satire filled with so much gore and sexual degeneracy you might want to wear a raincoat to the screening; 2. Joshua Grannell‘s horror spoof All About Evil, starring Natasha Lyonne and Cassandra Peterson about a psychotic film auteur who kills people on camera; 3. Miguel Angel Vivas’ brutal assault film Kidnapped.

Have a couple hot nights on the town when the Cinekink Film Festival shakes its groove thing on March 1-6 in NYC. With the exception of the opening and closing night galas, the fest will turn the venerable Anthology Film Archives into a red light district with sexy feature films, documentaries, shorts and more.
The feature films screening tell wicked tales of telepathic peeping toms (Sexual Radar), swingers (Open Invitation) and naive hedonists (Caged). Meanwhile, the documentaries chronicle the history of gay leather (Kink Crusaders) and porn addiction (Run, Run, It’s Him). And there’s all kinds of naughty offerings hidden in the short film collections.
While Cinekink is traditionally all about sex, the main film Bad Lit wants to recommend is all about not getting in: Robert G. Putka‘s hilarious and discomforting Hooka Face and the Virgin Boy. The fest also includes new short films by Bad...

If getting sand in your crotch while watching awesome short films sounds like a good time, then you better head on out to the first ever Black Rock City Film Festival, which is taking place right now, Aug. 30 to Sept. 3, at the legendary Burning Man gathering in the Nevada desert. If you’re already at Burning Man, hopefully you get cell reception and can see this lineup so you know where the best place is to be every night.
This event is a joint endeavor for the Boston Underground Film Festival and San Francisco’s IndieFest, who have selected over two dozen short films to screen at their open air theater. There are no start times for when these films will screen, but I would assume it would be sometime after sundown. Plus, there will be cocktail parties before and after the screenings, as well as Opening Night and Closing Night bashes.
