Under The Dome is back with a ponderous double-length season 3 opener, which is already squandering its sci-fi potential...
This review contains spoilers.
3.1 Move On & 3.2 But I’m Not
Credit where it’s due. There were decent sci-fi ideas in Under The Dome’s season three opener: the cocoons, the alternate world, the strangle-happy alien disguised as a mild-mannered dead teen. Granted, they weren’t original sci-fi ideas, but they had potential. More potential at least than the tedious romances and ‘I love you/I’ve shot you!’ familial conflicts that pass for emotional drama round these parts.
But like a toddler first learning how to tell a joke, this show just can’t stop fluffing its punchlines. Under The Dome squandered every bit of promise the fake world concept had in record-breaking time, by a line uttered in the episode’s opening minutes. “We hope it takes us home,” said...

The first trailer for the belated, long-awaited sequel to Jurassic Park 3 finally hit the web this past Tuesday, and rather surprisingly, the fan response to the first glimpse at Jurassic World has been pretty divisive. Take Sam Hill’s own article covering 8 disconcerting things about the trailer, making it clear that the initial look at the fourth Jurassic Park movie isn’t exactly setting the world on fire in terms of anticipation.
Still, it’s also important to have some perspective and appreciate that this less-than-amazing first trailer is no reason to get needlessly worried about the movie. After all, everyone has seen a movie following a not-so-great trailer (or even a series of trailers) and been pleasantly surprised: just look at Edge of Tomorrow from earlier this year, a great movie undermined by a crappy marketing campaign.
Granted, this is just the first of surely several...

Any writer will tell you that Writers’ Block is The Worst because it could be considered a type of amnesia. There is nothing more defeating than sitting down in front of your word processor/writing pad/computer/wall of your padded cell and not finding the motivation or the desire to get to work. The ability to get over this obstacle all but takes a miracle for a writer to overcome be it through a creative muse, having a heck of a dream or an epiphany that suddenly puts it all into perspective. Now, while Writers’ Block is a bane,...

José Padilha’s controversial remake of the 1980s action classic RoboCop hit UK cinemas yesterday, and so as well as mainstream reviews coming out, fans of the original and newbies to the character alike have been chiming in with their take on the movie.
While the consensus seems to be that this 2014 RoboCop is nowhere near as disastrous as it could’ve been, it simply can’t measure up to the greatness of the original, and I suggest you check out Sam Hill’s article here on the inferior changes that were made to the product.
This article isn’t so much about changes made compared to the original (though that does come into it), but simply moments throughout the film that made us doubt the point of the whole enterprise.
The film had plenty of good aspects: the cast was fantastic, there were some interesting themes, it at least tried to be satirical,...

After Wendy Davis’ feat in Texas this week, we revisit an educational, emotionally rousing episode of The West Wing…
Like escrow, rutabaga and cooties before it, filibuster is a word many of us in the UK first heard on American TV. Specifically, we heard it from the mouth of C.J. Cregg, Allison Janney’s White House Press Secretary in The West Wing’s season two The Stackhouse Filibuster.
The episode, coming as it does five episodes before one of Us drama’s most sublime achievements – season two finale Two Cathedrals – is easy to pass over, indeed, it didn’t even make it onto our best-of list. In any other show, an entry so emotionally rousing might have sailed into a top ten, but The West Wing’s seven seasons have an embarrassment of riches and then some.

The Nickelodeon KCAs: what time are they on, when can I watch them, and what the fudge is that green slime made out of?
As much as we all love to revel in the glory that is J-to-the-Bieber, there is not a one among us that didn’t love watching that little punk, and all his celebrity compadres, get slimed at last year’s Kids’ Choice Awards (even Taylor Swift loved watching Justin Bieber get slimed). So, naturally, we’re simply beside ourselves with glee over the fact that it’s almost time for the slimy awards show, once more. After all, celebrities are richer than most of us can ever hope to be, and that, alone, means they deserve to get slimed, right? Riiiiiiiiight? I mean, where in Sam Hill is that tax return check, anyway?!?
Seriously, When Are The Kids’ Choice Awards?
Ok, Ok, no more financial mumbo-jumbo,...
