The CW is moving forward with another Arrow spin-off headlined by Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy reprising their Arrow roles in the new superhero series.
The new offshoot, which was teased at TCA by the CW boss Mark Pedowitz, will center around Mia Smoak, known as Green Arrow, and the Canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake.
The project, which comes from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television, is being set up as a backdoor pilot that will air as episode from the upcoming eighth and final season of Arrow.
The CW’s The Flash also originally was developed as an Arrow planted spinoff before a decision was made to turn it into a standalone pilot.

Hey comic book fans, DC Comics just added six new titles, including an updated take on its vintage war comic, "G.I. Combat." On Wednesday (May 2), the comic publisher also launched "Earth 2," "Dial H," "Batman Incorporated," "World's Finest" and "The Ravagers."
The buzziest among them -- "G.I. Combat" -- is a tale of modern-day U.S. soldiers fighting the war on terror but with a fantastic spin. Two operatives discover something in the Sea of Japan in the book's first chapter, titled "The War That Time Forgot."
It's a lot like `Predator,'" writer J.T. Krul tells the Associated Press. "It's what they're trained for -- confronted by this unbelievably challenging and difficult environment -- like being surrounded by dinosaurs!"
"Dial H" is an update on the publisher's "Dial H for Hero." "Earth 2" is a new spin on the Justice Society of America. "World's Finest" features heroines Huntress and Power Girl.

Philadelphia -- More than eight months after upending its universe of classic heroes and ongoing titles, DC Entertainment is bringing six more titles to readers, including a contemporary take on its vintage war comic, "G.I. Combat."
The book, one of six new titles in comic shops on Wednesday, features a pair of stories that focus on modern-day U.S. soldiers in situations both fantastic, chaotic and, in some cases, out of time, too.
Writer J.T. Krul's offering focuses on a pair of special forces operatives stationed aboard a U.S. Navy ship in the Sea of Japan. As it monitors North Korea, a dead zone immune to any and all radar, sonar, satellite imagery and more pops up, causing concern about what may be hiding there.
"They see this blotted out section and it definitely piques their curiosity," he said. "That's why they send the team in."

And in the white elephant of desire category, there’s the $300 statue showing the climactic scene from The Dark Knight Returns.
Once more, into the breach? Banzai!

Newsarama reveal that George Pérez will no longer write or provide breakdown art for Superman, from #7 onward. The site has learned that the new creative team will be writer Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens on layouts and/or pencils. It is believed that Pérez may remain on the title as finisher/inker. Superman #1 opened up to very mixed reviews, with many criticizing the title as they did with Green Arrow #1 earlier this month. And what happened to that? Giffen took over from J.T. Krul as writer. Having read the issue myself, I definitely think this is for the best. The dialogue was very cheesy, the story itself was fairly unimpressive and after seeing how well Superman has been handled by every other writer during the relaunch, it was a shame to see his main title being such a massive let down! What did you guys make of it? And how...

In the latest of our comprehensive series of reviews of the game-changing relaunch of DC Comics, we take a look at Green Arrow #1. Who's it by?
Green Arrow #1 is written by J.T. Krul and drawn by Dan Jurgens and George Perez. What's the history?
Green Arrow has been tackling crime and social injustice in the DC Universe since his debut in 1941's More Fun Comics #73. Oliver Queen was created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp as an archery-themed take on Batman. Green Arrow soon became a force in his own right, going on to become the voice of left-wing and progressive politics in the DC Universe and gaining his own supporting cast. Queen is a billionaire and former mayor of Star City, using his wealth to develop high-tech archery equipment to fight crime. The character rose to prominence in the late 1960s, when writer Denny (more)...

Well, we all know what Henry Cavill looks like as Superman now, and he didn't need to change the color of Kal-El's skin to start kicking up some controversy on Twitter. Jamal Igle, David Gallaher and Mark Millar weighed in with reactions to the new Man of Steel, and sides have been taken.
Laurence Fishburne playing Perry White is still a hot topic, too, though, as is "Captain America: The First Avenger." Check out J.T. Krul's micro-review and see who's pumped for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" down below.

The comics world lost a legend Thursday night with the passing of artist Gene Colan. Legions of creators, including Jimmy Palmiotti, Paul Cornell and many others have shared their memories of his work on "Daredevil," "The Tomb of Dracula" and "Batman."
The other trending tweet topic of the night was the new "Captain America: The First Avenger" trailer that showed up yesterday. Steve Rogers and the Red Skull both got healthy amounts of screen time, but Tool music ultimately sold Skottie Young on the film. His evaluation and Tony Millionaire's call for investors made today's mix tape of tweet highlights.

Here it is. The full 52 titles that DC Will debut at the end of the summer. There are a lot of exciting new beginnings for old favorites like Swamp Thing and Sgt. Rock, and the whole lineup is chock full of some of the greatest names in the business. I’m a little disappointed that DC burned 11 of its new titles on the Bat-family alone. That seems a little bit of a waste. Especially since 4 of those titles actually feature Bruce Wayne/Batman in them. I love Bats as much as the next guy, but 4 titles? Really? I thought the whole renumbering was supposed to fix things like that.
In any event, here are the 52. I’m pretty excited all around. Let me hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Today turned out to be a popular day for being angry at things, as Neil Gaiman pointed to a Star Tribune article in which a Minnesota politician singled him out for being a burden on the state and called the writer a "pencil-necked little weasel." Needless to say, many folks in the comics community disagree with that characterization (I've always found Gaiman to be a fine, gentlemanly fellow) and tweeted their support.
Elsewhere, you probably didn't expect rising gas prices to be associated with sketch rates, but Terry Moore broached the topic in his feed. So much for the Katchoo piece I wanted to commission.
Anyway, check out the controversy after the jump. It's down there with some rad artwork and Stan Lee's recent discovery about "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh.

While at the C2E2 retailers summit a few weeks ago, a few details fans might be excited to find out about were accidentally leaked. At a DC Nation panel, the mid-western retailers were shown a few slides of “in-production” artwork, and DC’s Jim Lee and Dan Didio were teleconferenced in with Marvel’s Axel Alonso to prime the pump for the 2011 summer event. While cameras and laptops were forced off before the event, a few local shop owners emerged from the panel with some juicy tidbits. Here’s the skinny:

A Writer first known for his work with Doctor Who, penning several novels as well as writing for the BBC television series, Paul Cornell may now be more recognizable in the comic book landscape.
In addition to writing the Hugo Award-nominated run on Captain Britain & Mi: 13 for Marvel, he is currently the pen behind DC's Action Comics and Knight & Squire.
Working on both sides of the medium gives Paul a unique perspective on the translation of book into film/TV and how this may affect the source material.

And he adds: "I regret the loss of the thought balloon; I'm trying to bring it back.
