David Starks(I)
- Cinematographer
- Camera and Electrical Department
- Producer
David has always loved cinema from the time he was knee high watching
movies on his family's black and white television nestled in his
daddy's lap. But it wasn't until years later at Valencia Film School
while shooting his friends thesis film, when his love for
cinematography became his life endeavor. The movie ended up winning the
2001 Best Short Film at Palm Beach International Film Festival. From
that moment on, he devoted all of his time to the exploration of film.
After graduating with a film degree, he began his stint working as an electrician and grip, which ultimately, brought him to Los Angeles in 2004. Over the years, as his technical knowledge grew so did his thirst for creativity. When he wasn't engulfed in lighting features, he was shooting short films, most of which were accepted and won awards in numerous festivals.
In 2007, he photographed the multiple award winning short film "Dartsville", winning him a Best Cinematography Award from Hollyshorts Film Festival. Consequently, "Finding Jacob", a short film he shot in 2009, is scheduled to air on network television this December 2010, after being distributed by "The African American Short Film Showcase". Some of his feature credits include "Outrage", starring Michael Madsen, Natasha Lyonne and Michael Berryman, which took home 2009 Best Science Fiction Feature from Action On Film International Film Festival, and "Madison County", the high anticipated slasher film starring Nick Principe with effects by Rob Hall, that is due to have a big release in 2011.
You can now find him photographing movies, music videos and commercials all over the country. David is well versed with practically every format, including 35mm film (anamorphic and spherical), 4k, 2k and HD. He is an avid collaborator and a firm believer that the final image is always a direct representation of the story. His uncanny sense for composition, intense passion and amicable disposition, is what keeps him busy working. He is a cinematic artist who loves to paint with light and share his passion for cinema by creating visual images for audiences to enjoy.
