Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

The big news was that Glee and Modern Family tied for the Outstanding Comedy Series Award. Below you can see Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen and Ariel Winter accept the award from presenter Joel McHale. Jesse is funny, poignant, a bit manic, and totally adorable.
Below you can see Glee stars Mike O'Malley and Chris Colfer accept their award. Mike rocks that train conductor cap, while Chris is looking more and more like Roger Federer.

One of our favorite mantras around the AfterElton offices is “because visibility matters.” Indeed, the idea that gay and bisexual men need to be visible, both to ourselves and to the wider culture, is one of the principle reasons AfterElton.com even exists. After all, it is only by being visible to family, friends and the world that we’ve been able to overcome the stereotypes and bigotry used to justify discrimination against the Glbt community.
That quest for visibility explains why we have done so many polls including the AfterElton Hot 100, the Fifty Greatest Gay Movies, the Top 50 Gay TV Characters, and the 50 Best Gay Books. After all, it’s not as if Entertainment Weekly is going to ask gay and bisexual men which guys we think are the hottest, which movies mean the most to us or, in the case of our latest poll, which celebrities we most admire.

So What Makes A Man Sexy? Besides Editing A Website, Of Course! Wait, That Isn't Sexy?
This week Ae reader Miz Liz started a forum topic titled What's Your Idea of Sexy? Since our readers are not at all interested in matters of the flesh, hardly anyone had any thoughts on the subject.

Actually folks had a lot of thoughtful things to say and got me thinking about what I find sexy. Basically, it's a number of different things that can be combined in a multitude of ways to get all sorts of various kinds of sexy. But what are those "things?" Our members might be predominantly gay and bisexual men, but we do have a surprising number of female readers here at AfterElton.com. We value you ladies and feel bad that every year we have to ask you to sit out the Hot 100 voting (for that list we wanted a fair representation of whom gay and bi men find attractive).
To try and make up for it, every year we run a special poll exclusively our female readers, in which we ask them which gay/bi men they find hot.
This year over 12,000 votes were cast for over 600 different nominees. The top fifty appear here.
Without further ado... The 2010 Ladies' Choice Hot 50!

AfterElton.com editor Michael Jensen posted his Hot 100 picks a few weeks ago in the Best Gay Week Ever column, but it turns out that the other writers around here have very different tastes in men. We didn't want you thinking Michael's picks were the de facto "official" AfterElton.com selections or anything. Michael's drunk enough with power already.
So we rounded up the Hot 100 selections from all the peons as well. There are some surprises here – and very little overlap. Several of us went for unadulterated beefcake, but a few of our writers (no doubt the more insecure ones!) are clearly trying to impress you with a few highbrow and cerebral choices thrown in.
Check 'em out and see what you think. Who's list comes closest to your own?

You Have No Idea How I Suffer For My, Um, Art
If there is any task I truly hate as the editor of AfterElton.com, it's having to deal with the Hot 100 every year. The sheer torture of having to check each and every one of your Hot 100 comments for the photos of hot guys you have posted is excruciating.
I can't tell you how much I dread having to— ooh, someone just a posted a new picture of Eddie Cibrian! And check out that one of Sendhil Ramamurthy! Smokin'!
Cibrian is Spanish for "sex on a stick"
Um, where was I? Anyway, I was going to share my Hot 100 pics this week, but it occurs to me that you guys are probably sick of hot guys by this point. In fact, I can sense you are hungering for something more intellectual, so today's column is devoted to a discussion of quantum mechanics.

Yesterday we launched voting in our 4th Annual Hot 100 poll which lets the gay and bisexual male readers of AfterElton.com declare who they think the hottest men in the world are. Just as in year's past, we've asked some past Hot 100 honorees and other AfterElton faves to tell us who they think the hottest men on the planet are and one or two of the reasons for their choices.
Up first, retired NBA player, motivational speaker and Glbt activist John Amaechi! Take it away, John!
1) John Barrowman, since Torchwood and Doctor Who he made “omnisexual" the new category to aspire to in England!
2) Neil Patrick Harris, as I had a drunken conversation at some awards ceremony or another then fell for him as Dr. Horrible.
3) Wilson Cruz, because he ages in reverse, apparently...
John Barrowman, Russell Tovey, Gabriel Garcia Bernal
4) Zachary Quinto, as Spock rather than as in Heroes.

We asked you which gay or bisexual TV characters you think are the best, and you told us – with tens of thousands of votes cast.
Now we have the results.
But first, a few interesting statistics.
We have quite a few familiar faces – characters who made our last poll of the best gay and bisexual characters two and a half years ago – and a few missing ones, namely Vince D’Angelo (from Will & Grace), George Huang (from Law & Order: Svu), and Waylon Smithers (from The Simpsons), all of whom didn’t even make the top 50 this time around.
Meanwhile, we also have many new faces – from shows that have debuted since our last poll.
Every single character except two comes from a show that ran in the 00s (although some shows, like Will & Grace, did debut in the late 90s). The exceptions? Jodie Dallas, played by Billy Crystal, on Soap...

We’re back with the first TwitterWatch of the new year! And of course, with all the resolutions and “best of” lists floating around, it’s easy to lose sight of the noteworthy news stories. Thankfully Billy Eichner is around to keep us informed of the hard-hitting headlines:

Adam Lambert’s been tweeting up a storm lately, dispeling the Glee rumors, confirming the Oprah appearance, and announcing the debut of his new music video:

There are many formulas that I like, mostly because they work. The formula for original Coke is perfect and irreplaceable. New Coke be damned. One of my favorites, is what I call the Golden Girls formula for the perfect sitcom. I believe that any successful foursome will have the smart one, the slut, the dumb/ditzy/innocent one, and the wild card. Take a moment, and think about Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia respectively. Now think of Sex and the City’s Miranda, Samantha, Charlotte and Carrie. How about the Facts of Life girls, or the Queer as Folk guys? It works, right?
A few years ago, I stumbled on a Logo network show called Noah’s Arc. It chronicles the lives a four gay black men who are best friends and confidantes. Much like their Sex and The City counterparts, their love lives, careers and daily dramas play the central role.

Gay reporter sprite Michael Ausiello has released this little nugget of casting info about the CW remake of Melrose Place:
The CW's upcoming reboot is currently casting the role of Caleb, an extremely masculine gay publicist who works with Katie Cassidy's Ella.
So they don't just want a masculine gay character, he needs to be masculine ... to the extreme!
There's no word on who they've chosen yet, so we're offering a few fantasy casting ideas. Take a look at some choice cuts, and chime in with your own. Remember, this is fantasy casting, so feel free to go as outside the box as you want!

In February, Skate Canada, the governing board of Canadian figure skating, announced that it was embarking on a campaign to change the image of men’s skating – from sometimes frilly and flamboyant to more of an emphasis on power, speed, and endurance.
The announcement was greeted negatively by some Glbt groups who saw the move as little more than thinly veiled homophobia and a slap in the face of the sport’s existing fans.
Two-time Olympic silver medalist Elvis Stojko seemed aware of the controversy when he told the Toronto Sun, "It has nothing to do with your sexual preference. It's all about what men's skating is – power and strength. Whether he's gay or straight, it doesn't matter. It's what you're showcasing on the ice. If you're very lyrical and you're really feminine and soft, well, that's not men's skating. That is not men’s skating, okay?” [Note: The emphasis was Stojko's.]

Q: Regarding that, um, interesting scene of Kirk (Chris Pine) in his underwear in the new Star Trek: since the movie supposedly takes place in the 22nd century, that's presumably what men will be wearing then, right? So where can I get the underwear of the future ... today? -- Steve, Philadelphia, Pa
A: Personally, the Flying Monkey is holding out hope that the not-so-distant future will see a return to the simple beauty that is a pair of tighty-whities, but I suppose I should just be thankful that the new Smokin' Hot Kirk wasn't wearing saggy, baggy boxers.
Unfortunately, the undies worn by Smokin' Hot Kirk in the movie were made of pure Romulan silk and were created by the Edoian designer Rakop in the year 2250. In other words, they don't actually exist yet.

After triumphing for two years in a row, Jake Gyllenhaal is not the winner of our third annual AfterElton.com Hot 100 poll (see the results for 2007 here and 2008 here). So which out man did take the top spot? If you’re the kind of person who always burns their mouth biting into that piping hot chocolate chip cookie, you can just cheat and go here to learn who came in first place.
Here at AfterElton.com, we’re thrilled to announce an out gay man topped this year’s list – especially this particular man as most of us voted for him as well. In fact, out gay men snagged nearly 20% of the spots, including the top three. To be sure, we’ve nothing against our straight male crushes, but it says something great about 2009 that there are so many out men to choose from.
What we find almost as interesting...

While African-American men only nabbed 4% of the slots on the Hot 100 list, they pretty much ruled the roost when it came to this category. Indeed, it was nearly a Top 10 sweep with only Wilson Cruz and Mario López sneaking in at the end. As for Asians, B.D. Wong landed at #14 and Daniel Dae Kim came in at #18 while Sendhil Ramamurthy pretty much carried the torch for Indian representation by placing #12. The next highest-ranking man of Indian descent was British native Dev Patel, who made quite an impact in Slumdog Millionaire (2008). Alas, the success of that movie only propelled Dev to #28.
After Cruz and López, the next highest ranking men of Hispanic descent were Gael García Bernal and Guillermo Díaz at #s 20 and 21, respectively. Pop singer Ricky Martin clocked in at #26 followed by soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo at #40.
With any luck, the election of Barack Obama will remind all of us...

Fans of the here! soft-core soap Dante's Cove can rejoice, as it's just been announced that the supernatural skinfest will return for a fourth season this fall:
"As Dante’s Cove returns with season four, television’s sexiest guilty pleasure is back with a vengeance. The most thrilling new season yet picks up after the near annihilation and total destruction of the Cove. Still reeling from the dark apocalypse that nearly destroyed the island, hidden secrets and new rivalries bring even more deadly consequences for the island’s sexy young residents. With mysterious new characters and an even steamier plot, season four shatters lives and contains a mind-blowing twist that leaves the island’s inhabitants shaken to their core."
I don't know if I'd consider myself a "fan", exactly, but I did DVR it and fast forward to the "good parts" (oh c'mon, you did the same thing). What I...

Q: A year ago I saw a very good gay short film called Bugcrush and I fell in love with Donald Cumming, the bad boy bug enthusiast from the film. Cumming is the lead singer is a great band called the Virgins. You gotta let me know if he is queer or not. – Darius, Birmingham, UK
A: I love the Virgins! If you’re not familiar with them, take a listen:
Cumming is definitely adorable. Alas, he is also straight, most recently linked with Peaches Geldof, the daughter of Bob Geldof and a U.K. socialite and reality TV star.

Q: Oh, Wise Monkey, now that Dustin Lance Black has gotten his well-deserved Oscar, are any distributors thinking about re-issuing his 2001 docu-soap On the Bus? It was released some years ago,...
