Cynicism isn’t hard to come by in the horror genre; any Italian cannibal or home invasion flick will satiate your desire for an outlook on man’s worst transgressions. Conversely, it’s even harder to find a film with such a buoyant feel that is at odds with the terror on display. Well, folks, may I present to you The Boogens (1981), an endearing charmer of a subterranean monster movie. By the time it’s over, you may want to give it a big old hug.
Released by Jensen Farley Pictures in September (with Paramount buying up the TV rights) on a budget of $600,000 Us, The Boogens did nothing to impress critics. However, a certain Stephen King loved the hell out of it, and his praise would grace the advertising as it did with his accolades of The Evil Dead (1981). (A King blurb held a lot of truck in those days.

The iTunes 99p rental. For many weeks now the bane of my existence, where once i looked with anticipation to discover what had been chosen, i now look with dread. Fatal Instinct, Surfer Dude, Starter For 10, just some of the rejects i’ve been subjected to.
Imagine my surprise, then, when i found that this week’s selection might actually be watchable. Let’s take a look, then, at Layer Cake.
Initially wanting to be an actor, Matthew Vaughn thought better of it, and began in the British film industry. Vaughn served as producer for several of friend Guy Ritchie’s mockney gangster flicks, including Lock, Stock… and Snatch. Watching Ritchie work, Vaughn clearly decided it was a better gig, directing. His first film would follow Ritchie’s in the British gangster genre.
Daniel Craig is Xxxx, a terrible conceit, so i’ll refer to him as Craig. Craig is a business man.

The online video resurrection of things 80s isn’t only relegated to Fox television sitcom stars, MTV anchors, and Super Mario characters. With the launch of Strike.TV’s Dangerous Women, the phenomenon now encompasses the female actors that played (dismembered) hormonal teenagers that unwittingly unleashed hell via cassette recording in a remote cabin in the woods of Tennessee. Kinda, sorta, but not really reprising their roles from Sam Raimi’s cult classic The Evil Dead, Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker, and Theresa Tilly play Cheryl, Linda, and Shelly (Fangoria readers will chuckle after quickly realizing those are the same names of their Evil Dead characters). The three are menopausal, suburban house moms afflicted with an American Beauty malaise of middle age and weariness of the same old routine. And, of course, they’re all cursed with a “sadistically evil” doppelganger (queue the screams and dramatic music!). Instead of curing the...

Last week Fango told you about the new web series Dangerous Women, starring the original "Ladies of The Evil Dead". Today Ellen Sandweiss got back in touch with the news that the trailer is is online. See it after the jump.
Directed by Lee Miller and written by David O’Malley, whose credits also include The Boogens and Fatal Instinct and who teamed with the Evil Dead gang on the female-biker flick Easy Wheels, Dangerous Women (premiering Tomorrow, Thursday, January 22 on Strike.TV with the “Heart in a Jar” webisode) casts the trio—using their real names—as suburban moms. In addition to handling the usual trials of raising kids and running households, they also have to contend with their own evil doppelgangers. “When we saw the script for Dangerous Women, it seemed natural that the ‘Ladies of The Evil Dead’ should reunite for the show,” Sandweiss says. “We never...
