It’s been nearly a week since a series of tornadoes struck the Nashville area on March 3rd, causing widespread damage in the city’s densely populated neighborhoods — including the destruction of beloved music venue the Basement East — and killing more than two dozen people in the surrounding area. Volunteers have been working overtime to clear streets and yards or bring food and other necessities to affected areas, but it’s going to be a long road to recover and rebuild.

Singer-guitarist Brian Wright is one of Nashville’s most wonderfully eccentric characters — his Twitter account alone is enough to warrant your attention. On May 8th, the solo artist will release his new album Lapse of Luxury with his group the Sneakups. Ahead of the LP, Wright premieres the track “Patrick’s Crossing,” a nostalgic slice of country-funk about killing time on the Brazo River near his Texas hometown.

The Eat Pray Love soundtrack. Welcome ladies & gentlemen to the advent of Travel Porn.
Eat Pray Love is based on the relatively well written autiobiographical book by Elizabeth Gilbert, the first chapter of which begins with the line: “I wish Giovanni would kiss me. Oh but there are so many reasons why this would be a terrible idea”. This then is not Hemmingway. Neither should it be, some of you might be saying, although others will be saying Jesus is there nothing in the world of film or literature aimed at women that isn’t entirely centred around kissing men, and/or handbags. If you are having feelings similar to this, there is nothing to worry about, it is simply a recurrance of Sex And The City Fever. You are not alone.

The soundtrack to "Eat Pray Love" already dropped last month, but now there's an official music music video to Eddie Vedder's exclusive contribution "Better Days." There are no shots of the Pearl Jam frontman -- just clips from the movie -- but the quick shots of scenes are pretty well assembled against the music, and totally out of order (so, no spoilers). The soundtrack also features another one of Vedders' contributions, "The Long Road" featuring Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, plus tracks from Marvin Gaye, Joao Gilberto, Josh Rouse, Sly and the Family Stone and the comp's sole female contributor, Bebel Gilberto....

It was all but inevitable that that Elizabeth Gilbert's blockbuster book, Eat, Pray, Love (2010) would eventually make its way to the big screen. Now it's just about upon us. And when it arrives it will do so not as an indie film, but rather a high-end studio feature with an unlikely writer-director at the helm and an A-list leading lady who might be perfect for the role... or completely miscast (if you believe the naysayers out there). That star is, of course, Julia Roberts, and the writer-director is Ryan Murphy, the man behind Glee (TV). Gilbert's tome was a memoir about a woman -- Gilbert herself -- who gives up what seems, outwardly, to be an ideal life in order to pursue one that more genuinely makes her happy. So, she ends her marriage and heads off to travel the world, to soak it all in, and to -- say...

(Yet) Another side of Josh Rouse Expat singer/songwriter Josh Rouse is a musical chameleon, exploding into beautiful new aural shades with each record. His 2003 album, 1972, was a tribute to the Am pop and proto-disco sounds of his birth year. Two years later, he released Nashville, which explored a more contemporary fusion of folk rock and subtle electronic flourishes. But the biggest sonic shift came in 2006 when Rouse moved to Spain and began soaking up that country’s rich culture....

Josh Rouse’s latest album deflects most listeners’ first complaint with its title. Born in the Midwest, Rouse married a Spanish woman and moved to Valencia five years ago. Post-move efforts like Subtitulo and She’s Spanish, I’m American feature a distinct, though unmistakably casual, interest in some new sounds, a trend that El Turista continues. It also, sadly, carries on Rouse’s newfound emphasis on pleasant textures over passion and songcraft. Rouse never settles into any of these styles; he’s just breezing through. Turista also feels assembled from the stray ends of better ideas. An interest in ...

Josh Rouse’s music relies heavily on geography—why else would be put out albums called Dressed up Like Nebraska and Nashville? So, “Valencia,” a song off his upcoming record, El Turista, out February 16 on Bmi, isn’t that much of a stretch, given that he now lives in the “ciudad de las playas,” which happens to be Spain’s third largest city. Rouse, who is more of a raconteur-songwriter guy than a samba dancer, must have picked up the native tongue fraternizing with the locals, because he sings in lisp-perfect Spanish. The track is an exercise in Spanish relaxation: stand up and dance if you feel like it, or sit with a drink and let it flow over you. And don’t worry: it’s cocktail hour in Spain right now!
