He was the standard-bearer of the Finnish national team at the opening of Olympic Games in Nagano in the year 1998.
He won the Four Hills Tournament a record-breaking 5 times, 1998-1999, 2002-2003, 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2007-2008.
He is a Finnish ex-ski jumper. He announced his retirement from ski jumping in a press conference in Helsinki, Finland. (March 26th, 2008).
He has a son named Mico Petteri, born November 27th 2001 and a son who is named Milo Petteri, born June 9th 2008.
He won the World Cup ski jumping in 2003-2004 and 2004-2005. He
was individual world champion normal hill in 1997 and individual world
champion large hill in 2005. He was world champion with the Finnish team in the team world championships in 1995, 1997 and 2003.
