When Beyoncé unveiled the American flag-bearing cover of her latest album, Act ii: Cowboy Carter, some heralded the imagery as a “reclamation” of the flag’s symbolism, while others pointed to its connection to Texas’ Black Cowboys and Rodeo culture. Others, however, saw the flag as a symbol of America’s history of racism and imperialism, particularly fraught with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The sentiment trails the outrage stoked by her silence on “Break My Soul” being adopted as a war cry by pro-Idf Israelis in December.

There was a cipher going on outside the Hip-Hop 50 Live show at Yankee Stadium. One woman took the mic, intently closing her eyes while focusing on her next bar. As I walked away, she rhymed an improvisational derivative of recuperate, before spitting “that’s not even a word, I just be sayin’ shit.” The line set an apropos tone for the day. Hip-hop was bore out of rule-shirking and boundless imagination — and it made its way to “the house that Ruth built” to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Moody blue lights drench the audience at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem. We’re in Drake’s bedroom. Or some version of it, at least. The musician born Aubrey Graham is seated on the edge of a neatly made bed, and a dim tulip-shaped lamp stands in the corner of the stage, designed as a replica of the teenage bedroom where he wrote his first songs. His outfit of baggy jeans and a yellow-and-blue basketball jersey complete the tableau. Number eleven, Degrassi High.

The official trailer for Season 9 of “Love & Hip Hop: New York” has arrived ahead of its premiere next week, and that means the returns of franchise favorites Joe Budden and Cyn Santana after four years away. The pair are in full swing almost immediately, and yes, that means lots of screaming.
Budden is busy with his podcasting, while Santana is working on her clothing line, and the couple has brought a third star into the mix with them this season: their baby boy Lexington. The couple is already back down to their “Lhh” fighting weight, throwing jabs at each other in the car, on the street, and, of course, in their own home.

Juelz Santana enjoyed a little Qt with his daughter this weekend ... starting with a manicure/pedicure but not before a judge signed off on it. The rapper -- who is under house arrest following an airport gun bust in March -- requested permission from a judge to leave his house so he could spend the day with his daughter, Bella, for her birthday. It's interesting ... we haven't seen court records where a judge sets specific...

Juelz Santana is an American rapper and actor that might be popular in certain circles but seems to kind of play up his fame a little too much at times. There’s no need to downplay him simply because he is on the scene and has earned his musical stripes, but it really seems at times that he kind of overplays himself and attempts to live up to his own hype. So far as his fame goes people know about him and what he does. But as far as it takes him otherwise it kind of feels as though he might

Kim "Kimbella" Vanderhee is facing a different kind of drama. The Love & Hip Hop star had her fair share of spats on the VH1 reality show, but now Kimbella is being hit with disses from a number of people she doesn't even know. Thanks, social media! The exotic model, who was linked to rapper Juelz Santana, is currently under fire by Instagram followers after she posted what commenters are calling an "inappropriate" image of her daughter, Bella Monroe James. The snapshot shows Kimbella rocking a silver, one-piece bathing suit that flaunts all of the reality star's curves, while her baby girl struts a matching bikini. Jimmy Kimmel got the scoop that rapper Lil Wayne will retire after releasing Tha Carter 5. Take this news with a grain of salt, as it comes from a very unreliable source: Lil Wayne. Then throw in another pinch of salt because Tha Carter 5 is not Weezy's next album. That might be his upcoming planned collaborations with Juelz Santana, Drake, Big Tymers, T-Pain—or possibly several of those names at once. Or it might be Devol, an album of love songs written while the rapper was in prison. Or maybe it's Teeth, an album he'll probably ...

Hip-hop is a natural minefield for satire, a world in which oversize personalities talk large and create brands and fronts that rest on the fragile backs of 16-bar verses. Behind most clever or boastful lyrics is a grown man counting out syllables and scribbling down lines into a notebook. In recent years, though, few have spotlighted the comedy that unfolds between the seeds of a song and a rapper stepping on stage better than a gangly pair of brothers who live on the Upper West Side of New York.

Fans have waited eight years for a third Diplomats album, what's another few months? If Jim Jones has his way, the long-awaited Diplomatic Immunity 3 will be out by the end of the year. "Real soon; might be the fourth quarter," the Dipset Capo said when he appeared on "RapFix Live" on June 13.
Long after the group broke up, Jim, Cam'ron, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey announced two years ago that they would be coming back together and dropping a new album.
