The Coen brothers regular plays a delusional ex-librarian who goes questing on a motorbike and sidecar in this good-natured retelling of the classic adventure
Set in the present day, in some American backwoods town where the accents have a softly southern cadence, this likable effort reworks Miguel de Cervantes’s immortal much-adapted novel with veteran character actor and Coen brothers regular Tim Blake Nelson in the title role. It is written and directed by Chris Poche, at the helm for the first time after writing duties on an assortment of animated features including Hoodwinked and Over the Hedge. Poche’s iteration of Quixote imagines the hero, Danny Kehoe, as an unemployed ex-librarian living with his niece Janelle (Ann Mahoney). He is delusional and disturbed rather than, as other versions have posited, having dementia.
As Kehoe burrows deeper into his fantasy world, he becomes convinced he is a medieval knight, and,...

Signature Scores U.K. Distribution For ‘The True Don Quixote’ From Mise En Scene Company (Exclusive)
A new version of the Don Quixote yarn will be tilting at U.K. box office windmills soon.
London-based international sales outfit The Mise En Scène Company (Msc) has secured a U.K. distribution deal with Signature Entertainment for “The True Don Quixote.”
The film is a modern adaptation of the classic Cervantes novel from 1605 but set in the wilds of Louisiana, where Quixote dons makeshift armour and trades his half-starved horse Rocinante for a rusty old Vespa.
Tim Blake Nelson (“The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs”) plays Quixote, and the cast also includes Jacob Batalon (“Spider-Man: Homecoming”) as his sidekick Sancho Panza, as well as Brandon Stacy (“The Big Short”) and Ann Mahoney (“The Walking Dead”).
The film is the directorial debut of Chris Poché, whose writing credits include “Kung Fu Panda,” “Charlotte’s Web” and “Smallfoot.”
The deal was negotiated between Msc’s Paul Yates and Signature’s acquisitions and development executive Katie Wilkinson.

The Walking Dead TV series is heading toward one of the comic book’s most brutally iconic moments this week.
Warning: Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 9!
Viewers of AMC’s The Walking Dead who are unacquainted with the show’s comic book source material might dismiss the current group of antagonists, the skin-mask-wearing Whisperers, as yet another freaky result of savage, post-apocalyptic societal devolution who will inevitably get their asses handed to them by the show’s vigilant survivor communities of Alexandria, Hilltop and the Kingdom. However, those viewers are going to be surprised by this week’s episode, “The Calm Before,” which is the penultimate chapter of Season 9.
Indeed, The Walking Dead‘s official Twitter account– evoking imagery from Game of Thrones’ infamously iconic main character massacre, “The Red Wedding” – just affirmed the notion that the show is in store for a monumental moment that...
