Exclusive: The Walking Dead wrapped up the first half of its ninth season just a couple of days ago, but the man behind the comic that the AMC series is based on has a brand new 5 Year plan.
Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment has inked an agreement with Entertainment One for the series based on an idea by the Twd Ep of the final five years before a fatal meteor hits the Earth, I’ve learned. The two companies will co-produce and eOne will handle the financing and distribution for 5 Year.
If you think that pre-apocalyptic notion sounds a bit like the David Bowie tune from 1972’s Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album or even Arthur C. Clarke’s The Hammer of God novel, you’d be right. But unlike those works, Kirkman’s idea has a much more global and simultaneously localized approach within its premise.

Skybound Entertainment is officially launching GammaRay, a pop-culture video content brand targeted at highbrow fans of movies, TV, comics and games.
That’s according to David Alpert, one of Skybound’s partners along with Robert Kirkman and Jon Goldman, who is leading GammaRay as CEO. “It’s hard to find a place for intellectual discussion that’s not driven by lowest-common-denominator editorial,” Alpert said.
While it’s housed at Skybound, GammaRay is backed by three other investment partners: David Ellison’s Skydance Media, Allen DeBevoise’s Third Wave Ventures and C Ventures, a Vc firm co-founded by entrepreneur Adrian Cheng and veteran investor Clive Ng. Alpert declined to disclose how much funding GammaRay has raised.

CinemaThe actor plays a street magician who cons people into believing that he possesses supernatural powers.Digital NativeDhanush’s first ever international film, the English-French movie The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, released to positive reviews in France. In the movie, the National Award winning actor plays a street magician who cons people into believing that he possesses supernatural powers. His character as Ajatashatru Lavash Patel has caught the attention of critics in a big way. Speaking about the actor, the film’s director Ken Scott has been quoted by the Indian Express as stating, “When I worked with Dhanush, I discovered a great actor and an amazing personality. It was a great experience during the Paris premieres and the press screenings to realise that the French audience and media felt the same about him and experienced the same delight and sense of wonder watching Dhanush in our film.” The producer of the film is also delighted with the positive response and has been quoted as saying: “The film had tested well early on during the editing process with a test audience in Paris, so we knew it would be well received. It was a treat reading the first reviews that emphasised the humanism of the film, its warmth, comedic quality and underlined the discovery of an incredible comedian they mostly didn’t know before this film with Dhanush.” Based on the novel by the same name, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir is produced by Luc Bossi and Jon Goldman. The film stars Dhanush in the lead role with Bérénice Bejo, Barkhad Abdi, Erin Moriarty and Gérard Jugnot included in the star cast. Music for the film was composed by Nicolas Errèra, with Vincent Mathias handling the camera. The film was shot extensively in India, France, Italy and Libya. The Weinstein Company is known primarily for its big dramas, especially this time of the year when it fills art house theaters with award hopefuls like St. Vincent, Big Eyes and The Imitation Game. But the studioe does occasionally branch out to the smaller screen, and recently it has formed a partnership with Lexus to create some short films that give aspiring feature filmmakers a shot. Though they're dubbed the Lexus Short Films, these movies aren't car commercials in the slightest. They're cute, heartfelt efforts with self-contained stories and the latest entries are Market Hours (from director Jon Goldman) and Operation Barn Owl (from Satsuki Okawa), which you can see below. Los Angeles -- A California appeals court has upheld a ruling that says user-generated video site Veoh is entitled to safe harbor from monetary damages in a copyright infringement case brought by Universal Music Group.
Judge Raymond Fisher said in a decision filed Tuesday that Universal could not put the burden of finding and deleting copyright-infringing material on Veoh.
The website's actions to take down infringing material once it was notified protected it under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the court said.
"This is a great result for conscientious operators of (user-generated content) sites like us ... who strictly follow Dmca rules to protect content holders," said Jon Goldman, chief executive of Qlipso Media Networks Ltd., a social media startup that bought Veoh last year.
Universal, a unit of Vivendi Sa, sued Veoh in 2007, saying that it was not doing enough to stop users from uploading videos containing the work of its artists.

Chris Farina’s World Peace…and Other 4th Grade Achievements is one of the more fascinating documentaries you will ever see. Over the course of eight weeks, students in 4th-grade teacher John Hunter’s Charlottesville, Virginia class take on the roles of nation leaders, Un representatives, the World Bank, tribal chieftans who negotiate the trade rights to their resource-rich lands, arms dealers, and even a weather goddess in a comprehensive game designed to promote discussion, foster negotiation skills, and, of course, ultimately achieve world peace.
With each child’s duty defined, Hunter then introduces a number of crises ranging from economic hardships to global warming to mercenary attacks to even a saboteur whom the students must unmask, put on trial, and prove guilty.
It may sound like too much to cover in the span of a one-hour running time, but Hunter explains the game with concision and clarity, and Farina...
