The latest installment of the long-running Planet of the Apes franchise was released last Friday to an opening weekend of $131.2 million at the worldwide box office. The film is the first in a new trilogy following the Cesar trilogy from 2011 – 2017. This also marks the first film released under Disney due to the 2019 merger with 20th-century Fox.
The film leaves things open-ended for another sequel, this time following the character of Noa, which makes you think how much longer this rebooted franchise can last. Now, we have an idea as to how long the creative team wants it to go.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the husband-and-wife writing duo behind Rise and Dawn and the producers of War and Kingdom, revealed their plans for the series’ future.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is now playing in theaters with an impressive box-office opening which all but guarantees we haven’t seen the last of those damn dirty apes. It remains to be seen how many more sequels we’ll get, but Planet of the Apes franchise producers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who also wrote Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, told THR that they originally envisioned a nine movie arc for the modern franchise.
“When you first came up with this idea, the Apes franchise way back, you saw nine movies,” Silver said. “We thought, ‘This is crazy ambitious.’ But here we are. We’re at four.“
“I saw nine. I don’t know if we’ll make it to nine. I would love it,” Jaffa replied. “We’ve spoken to not just [director Wes Ball, writer...

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” may not feature the words of screenwriting power couple Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, but their imprint is all over the reboot franchise and because of the producer credit they fought for when they wrote “Rise,” their names will be too. Having been an agent before he transitioned into screenwriting, Jaffa was well acquainted with the benefits of obtaining producer status and it has since allowed him and wife Amanda Silver to maintain ownership over a reboot franchise many consider to be better than its predecessor. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jaffa said his creative shift away from agency work wasn’t much of a surprise, but that Silver helped him along.

The MCU is awaiting a breath of fresh air with its upcoming slate of films: starting with Deadpool & Wolverine. With universe hopping already a thing, fan theories keep popping up, each with varying degrees of possibility. One of them explores the plotline of Pedro Pascal’s Fantastic Four.
The new Fantastic Four cast. | Credit: Marvel Studios.
Starring Pascal as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, the movie is set to introduce Marvel’s first family into the MCU. However, that’s not the only thing that will debut in the Marvel movie. Fantastic Four is also on the way to bring Galactus, one of the strongest beings from Marvel comics, as the big bad in the MCU.
However, with every big villain, especially of celestial proportions, there comes a question: where were they before, and why didn’t they fight The Avengers?

This post contains spoilers for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes."
The majority of people currently alive today have never known a world without the "Planet of the Apes" franchise. French author Pierre Boulle first published his novel "La Planète des singes" in 1963, and the world has been fascinated with an alternate future where our own hubris have destroyed humans, and highly intelligent apes are now the dominant species on Earth. "Maze Runner" and future "The Legend of Zelda" director Wes Ball is the latest to sit in the director's chair, delivering "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," the tenth film overall in this legacy series.
The film follows the events of the previous trilogy a few hundred years later, where a young ape named Noa (Owen Teague) sets off on a journey after his clan has been attacked by a rival group under the control of the...

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are so in sync that they tend to finish each other’s sentences, a habit that has come in handy during decades spent together writing some of Hollywood’s biggest movies — all while maintaining a 35-year-long marriage.
The duo arrived on the scene with The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, the 1992 female-led thriller that Silver wrote in USC grad school and got made with the help of Jaffa, then an agent at William Morris, who put it in front of the right people and worked as an uncredited writer on the film. Their careers took off in earnest when they revamped a flagging but treasured 20th Century Fox franchise with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the 2011 feature that took a risk by focusing on an ape protagonist (Andy Serkis’ Caesar) and redefined what was possible with motion capture technology.

Just a few months ago, the MCU’s “Fantastic Four” emerged as the most anticipated upcoming movie, with the revelation of its release date and cast. Pedro Pascal is set to portray Reed Richards, alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm. Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn will bring The Thing and the Human Torch to life, respectively. Julia Garner joins as the MCU’s Silver Surfer.
With filming slated to commence this summer, a shift in the release schedule has bumped “Thunderbolts*” to May 2, 2025, leaving a void in its previous July 2025 slot. Despite the core cast being finalized, details on the film’s antagonist remain shrouded in mystery.
Today’s landscape shifted dramatically with the announcement from The Hollywood Reporter confirming Ralph Ineson’s role as Galactus in the upcoming film.

For a writer, signing on to “Planet of the Apes” is less an assignment than a calling. After all, it’s the longest-running science-fiction series in film history. So when Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the husband-and-wife screenwriting and producing team, conceived “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” in 2011, they envisioned more than a single-serving reboot. “We did see that if we played it right, there’d be at least three movies,” Jaffa tells Variety.
He wasn’t wrong: Their four-film stint culminates with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” the franchise’s 10th installment (and the first in a reported new trilogy). Their tenure follows that of Paul Dehn, who took over screenwriting duties from Rod Serling and Pierre Boulle for the 1970s “Planet of the Apes” sequels. “Kingdom” also echoes the series’ labyrinthine internal timeline, which elapses across a millennia of circular (and occasionally contradictory) storytelling.

The debut of Episode 8 of ‘X-Men ’97’ marked the commencement of its three-part finale, advancing the overarching narrative while also featuring a notable cameo. Christopher Barnes’ Spider-Man made a surprise appearance following Captain America, sparking fan speculation about the integration of ‘Spider-Man ’94’ into the continuity of the new ‘X-Men ’97.’
Previously, it was established that all Marvel Animated series, while not aligned with the MCU canon, belong to the broader Marvel Animated Multiverse. This categorization holds merit, given the significant disparities between the older and newer shows, offering a logical framework for their coexistence.
After Episode 8 aired, well-known industry insider Daniel Richtman asserted that ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Silver Surfer,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ all inhabit a shared universe.

The release of ‘X-Men ’97’ Episode 8 Started the three-part finale, and of course, advanced the overall story of the show, but it also included one notable cameo. After Captain America, Christopher Barnes’ Spider-Man showed up in the show, which prompted fans to conclude that ‘Spider-Man ’94’ is truly canon to the new ‘X-Men ’97.’
It was stated a while back that all Marvel Animated shows, despite not being canon to the MCU, are part of Marvel Animated Multiverse, and that definition is truly sensible and logical, since the older shows (and by extension new shows) contradict each other in quite a lot of ways.
Now following the release of episode 8, notable industry insider Daniel Richtman stated that ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Silver Surfer,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ are all set within the same universe.

Just take a sneaky peak back on the movies we’ve covered so far on our Arnie Revisited series, and the Austrian Oak had already covered several genres in his rise from bodybuilder to Hollywood icon. Raw Deal and Commando were straight-up action movies, while his work as Conan was an epic mix of action and fantasy. You can even argue that The Terminator is a classic 80s slasher flick, and not simply the revolutionary sci-fi masterpiece it’s generally regarded as. However, he hadn’t managed to blend both horror and science fiction in any of his previous movies, in the way he did with the film we’re focusing on in today’s episode – Predator. It was such a huge success for both star and franchise that it not only helped to further cement Arnie as a Hollywood icon, but also created a franchise packed with sequels, a prequel,...

Sony Pictures Classics announced on Wednesday that it will release Nathan Silver’s acclaimed comedy Between the Temples, starring Jason Schwartzman (Asteroid City) and Carol Kane (The Dead Don’t Die), in theaters nationwide on August 23.
The film will open against Zoë Kravitz’s debut feature Blink Twice (Amazon MGM Studios), the animated pic 200% Wolf (Viva Pictures), the remake of The Crow starring Bill Skarsgärd (Lionsgate), and the drama The Forge from Affirm Films.
Slated to make its New York debut at Tribeca in June, after playing both Sundance and Berlin to great reviews, Between the Temples follows Ben (Schwartzman), a forty-something cantor losing his voice and possibly his faith. Struggling to meet the expectations of his rabbi, congregation, and not one but two Jewish mothers (Caroline Aaron and Dolly de Leon), Ben finds his world turned upside down when his grade school music teacher re-enters his life as an adult bat mitzvah student.

Sometime ago it was revealed that MCU’s Silver Surfer will be Julia Garner. Julia will be portraying Shalla-Bal, Norrin’s love interest in the comics, but there is a reality in which Shalla serves as the Herald of Galactus as well, Sunglow.
The reactions to Julia Garner’s casting were extremely polarizing with a good part of the community feeling that genderswapping Silver Surfer, whom 99% of people associate with being male, is extremely disrespectful to the character’s legacy. The second part of the fandom however feels that other versions of Silver Surfer – notably female ones, should get their moment of glory.
Now according to most recent rumors posted on private Pateron by Daniel Richtman, Norrin Radd will join Shalla-Bal in ‘Fantastic Four’ setting things right with the fanbase. This points in the direction that their story will be more comic-accurate than expected.

Speculation has arisen of late that the WNBA could seek its own media deal in this round of negotiations, but Adam Silver wants to keep the two leagues together.
Just how valuable an asset will Caitlin Clark be to the WNBA? The former Iowa guard’s stardom could be worth tens of millions of dollars to the league, which sees its broadcasting deal with ESPN expire after the 2024-25 season. The WNBA is currently negotiating a new broadcast rights contract jointly with the worldwide leader in sports alongside the NBA, but reports indicate that the women’s league could strike out on its own and make a new deal without the NBA’s help. But speaking at the NBA Board of Governors’ meeting this week, league commissioner Adam Silver said that he believes that the two leagues are best off negotiating with broadcast partners together.

Last week, it was announced that Julia Garner will portray MCU’s Silver Surfer. She’ll depict Shalla-Bal, known as Norrin’s love interest in the comics. However, in some versions, Shalla also serves as Galactus’s Herald, known as Sunglow.
Reactions to Julia Garner’s casting were mixed. Some in the community felt that changing Silver Surfer’s gender was disrespectful to the character’s legacy, as most associate the character with being male. Others believe that alternative versions of Silver Surfer, particularly female ones, deserve recognition.
Certainly, there are already calls to boycott the movie, but this isn’t the right approach. Regardless of your stance on the film, it’s important to watch it first, even if just to critique it later with an informed perspective. Speaking of Silver Surfer in live-action, we’ve previously seen him in ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,’ portrayed by Laurence Fishburne and Doug Jones.

The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

However, it seems that Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite, have forgotten one important character from the series who has been a part of Aang’s team since day one. This character is none other than Sokka, Katara’s brother. Although they forgot the character,...

The interesting thing is the protagonist of the series, Aang, has got two skins in the game. Players can purchase unique weapons, character skins, and a variety of other items for V-Bucks.

There are a lot cult classics from the 1980s, but Road House stands somewhere near the top. Sure, many of its fans wouldn’t label it as such, since they lovingly, legitimately and unironically adore it. But there’s no use in arguing it belongs in one camp over another or that it is unapologetically everything it sets out to be. But it – and its cult following – couldn’t have happened without a few broken ribs, a don’t-take-no producer and some pervy late-night phone calls to a star’s spouse. Yes, it involves Bill Murray… So, pour some suds and rip some throats because we’re gonna find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to welcome the Fantastic Four. The group, led by The Last of Us fame Pedro Pascal, will pit an older group of superheroes against Silver Surfer and Galactus, two well-known villains. So there.

Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four is reported to have hired Ozark star Julia Garner in the film. The NBA is looking to triple its revenues in its next national broadcasting deal. Which streaming partners will help it achieve that goal?
The NBA wants to get paid. The league’s current broadcasting rights deal expires following the 2024-25 season, and reports indicate it wants to make anywhere from double to triple the $24 billion it makes from its current broadcasting partners ESPN and TNT. In early 2023, reports surfaced that the league wanted to create a new package of games that will be sold exclusively to a streaming service, which gained further credence when it was reported that ESPN and TNT wanted to buy smaller packages of games in the next deal. When considering the league’s goals in growing its audience, increasing revenue, and being available to as many viewers as possible, it seems that Amazon’s Prime Video is the ideal streaming partner to purchase a new package of games.

Jake Gyllenhaal is trying to cool the controversy surrounding his upcoming action movie “Road House,” a remake of the 1989 cult favorite starring Patrick Swayze. The Amazon Prime Video movie has been slammed by none other than its director, Doug Liman, who is boycotting the film’s release due to Amazon’s decision not to open the movie in theaters. The new “Road House” launches on streaming via Prime Video in March. The film is premiering at SXSW, but Liman has said he will not be in attendance.
In a new interview with Total Film magazine, however, Gyllenhaal seemingly confirmed Variety’s report about “Road House” always being intended for a global streaming release. Sources familiar with the negotiations told Variety that Liman, Gyllenhaal and producer Joel Silver were given a choice: Make the film for $60 million and get a theatrical release or take $85 million and go streaming only. They opted for the latter.
