New Delhi, July 19 (Ians) Despite their outstanding past performances, Australian cricket stars Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have been experiencing a dip in form during the ongoing Ashes series. However, their captain Pat Cummins maintains an optimistic outlook regarding their future prospects.
Both Smith and Labuschagne have struggled to make significant contributions in their 12 innings so far with only one notable score stands out, which is Smith’s impressive first-innings century at Lord’s.
Smith’s outstanding Ashes average of 59.68 (65.08 in England), which included an incredible 774-run series in 2019, has witnessed a decline to 31.66 as the series progressed to Old Trafford. Similarly, Labuschagne’s initial average of 45.86 has also dropped significantly to 24.00 during the ongoing Ashes series.
“I think both of those guys may have moved their hotel pillows into the nets over the last couple of days, the amount of time they’ve been spending in there. They’re...

Chennai, March 21 (Ians) The three-match Odi series against Australia following the four Tests for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy were expected to give a glimpse into India’s preparations for this year’s Odi World Cup at home.
The selectors were planning to Test some players before they finalise the squad for the World Cup. But going into the third match, the selectors may not be much wiser than at the start as the matches have exposed some chinks in the armour.
Both teams have won one match each thus matching the Chennai Odi, the series decider and the last chance for the Aussies to test the fitness of David Warner and Glenn Maxwell before the September ODIs in India and the World Cup.
Playing without skipper Rohit Sharma, who sat out the match to attend a marriage in his extended family, India rode on an unbeaten 75 by seasoned Kl Rahul...

Ahmedabad, March 9 (Ians) Australia captain Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat first in the fourth and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Thursday.
Having won the third match at Indore, Australia need to win this Test to level the series 2-2.
They decided to go into this Test with an unchanged squad.
“We are going to have a bat, playing with the same team. Looks like a nice surface, does look like a good wicket. The guys performed well last week,” Smith said at the toss.
India skipper Rohit Sharma said he would have also batted first.
“We would have batted first. We know what needs to be done. We need to regroup as a team, you can reflect on so many things. Not the surface what we saw in the first three Tests, looks like a good pitch,...

Townsville (Queensland), Aug 31 (Ians) Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc grabbed three wickets as the hosts thrashed Zimbabwe by eight wickets in a low-scoring match to win the second One-day International here and take an unassailable lead in the three-match series on Wednesday.
Following figures 3/24, the 32-year-old Starc is just one wicket short of becoming the sixth Australian bowler to reach 200 men’s Odi wickets even as the Kangaroos leap-frogged West Indies on the path to automatic qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.
Starc led the charge here as Australia bundled out Zimbabwe for just 96 runs in 27.5 overs with the pacer accounting for Innocent Kaia, Wesley Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani in his first four overs and consigning the tourists to 14/3. Regis Chakabva’s side were unable to recover, eventually bowled out for a sub-100 total.
In reply, Australia lost David Warner and Aaron Finch early before they managed to...
