CBS went into the Nielsen stratosphere Thursday, when more than 30 million viewers turned out for the two-hour fifth-season finale of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation directed by Quentin Tarantino. The same could not be said of the season clincher for NBC's The Apprentice. Indeed, the "CSI" landslide made it an uphill climb for the 9 p.m. finale of Apprentice, which brought in 14 million viewers and a 6.3 rating/15 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to Nielsen Media Research. That was a surprisingly modest showing for Apprentice -- which crowned its first female winner, Florida real estate developer Kendra Todd -- and not much of a bounce over what the show has delivered this season on a good night with regular episodes. The 8-10 p.m. airing of "CSI" averaged 30.7 million viewers and a 10.6/28 in the key demo; viewership peaked in the final half-hour at 35.1 million viewers and 12.8/30 in the demo.
