Nation of Language share new single ‘Too Much, Enough’ – the centrepiece of new album Strange Disciple out 15th September via [Pias], named as one of the most anticipated albums of the summer by Pitchfork.
In this new track, the band takes aim at the angering, addictive and anxiety-inducing TV news cycles that have so many viewers hopelessly devoted. ‘Too Much, Enough’ looks outward with an effect that is both immediate and irresistible. The chorus explodes like the revelation of a third eye opening, combining a ricocheting pattern of synths with an uninhibited bassline, leaping vocal melodies and an empathic call-and-response.
Simultaneously surreal and hyper present, ‘Too Much, Enough’ arrives with a music video starring Emmy-nominated actor Jimmi Simpson, fellow musicians Reggie Watts, Kevin Morby, Tomberlin, Moldy Peaches’ Adam Green, and Lvl Up’s Greg Rutkin, plus more than a dozen other close friends, familiar faces and even the hooded Strange Disciple itself.

Nation of Language have shared “Stumbling Still,” a new single from their upcoming album Strange Disciple. Check it out below.
“Stumbling Still” is Nation of Language’s best swing at post-punk. An anxious bassline thumps over sterile electronic drums that call to mind Joy Division’s “She’s Lost Control” as singer Ian Devaney croons, “Waiting for you, waiting for them/ To finally come along/ But it’s just me in my own head/ So Jesus, what do you want?” By the chorus, however, the band’s airy keys offer Devaney’s moody lyrics some levity.
Strange Disciple features the singles “Sole Obsession” and “Weak in Your Light” and is out in full September 15th. Pre-orders are ongoing. As Nation of Language’s third LPs it follows 2020’s Introduction, Presence and 2021’s A Way Forward.
The band will be on the road throughout 2023; grab tickets here and revisit our recap of their New York City show.

Nation of Language have readied a new album called Strange Disciple. The Brooklyn band’s third LP arrives in full on September 15th, and as a preview, they’ve shared the song “Weak in Your Light.”
Produced by Nick Millhiser, Strange Disciple was recorded while Nation of Language were between tours, inspiring the band to make music that would best translate to a live setting. As such, the record features more live drums and guitar than ever before. Pre-orders are ongoing.
“Weak in Your Light” follows the lead of previous single “Sole Obsession” in portraying Nation of Language singer Ian Devaney’s experience with all-consuming love. The track begins with ominous, bubbling synths before building to a shimmering chorus where the artist accepts his fate. “Sometimes when I feel the most is when I feel hopelessly devoted to something or someone,” he explained in a statement. Listen to the song below.

Machinegum, the band-artist collective fronted by Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, has shared a new video for “Kubes,” a song off of the group’s debut album, Conduit.
Actor Justin Bartha (of The Hangover series and The Good Fight) directed the clip, which compiles videos sent in by people around the world going through a very specific daily routine based on instructions posted on the Machinegum website back in February. Interspersed with footage of Ian Devaney singing the dreamy synth-pop track, the video follows this disparate but interconnected group as they wake up,...
