Salim Merchant of the music composer duo Salim-Sulaiman, who has put together the music of the stage musical show ‘Disco Dancer-The Musical’, has said that he and his sibling were clear from the start that Bappi Lahiri’s original music for the eponymous Mithun Chakraborty-starrer film ‘Disco Dancer’ would be retained for the musical.

Mumbai, April 10 (Ians) The rehearsals of the upcoming stage musical show, ‘Disco Dancer-The Musical’ are in full swing. The show recreates the magic of 80’s Bollywood and particularly the Disco era helmed by late music composer Bappi Lahiri.
Recently, Bappi Lahiri’s daughter Rema Lahiri and grandson Rego B watched the rehearsals and grew understandably emotional.
Rema said: “It is hard to believe that my father is no longer around because no matter where I go, his music follows me. I was completely overwhelmed while watching the rehearsals of ‘Disco Dancer-The Musical’ because it is the perfect tribute to my father’s music.”
She further mentioned: “I wish he was here with us to see this production with all of us. It has been mounted on such a huge scale and no effort has been spared to recreate the era when this film and its music were making huge waves across the world.

Mumbai, Feb 26 (Ians) Ace singer and composer Bappi Lahiri’s daughter Rema Lahiri applauded the ‘Indian Idol 13’ contestant Debosmita Roy for her mellifluous voice and singing style.
Debosmita sang tracks such as ‘Aao Tumhe Chaand Pe Le Jaye’ and ‘Jalta Hai Jiya Mera’ which impressed the judges as well as the guest.
Rema said: “The antras (high notes) of both the songs that Debosmita sang are so challenging for a singer to sing and that too with live musicians. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the musicians as they are the main pillars of our music industry.”
“The way Debosmita performed the song, it was commendable. It is very difficult to sing such songs. Being a girl of this generation, you sang exceptionally well Debosmita. You are an outstanding performer, totally flawless, God bless you,” she added.

Actress Rituparna Sengupta has started working on a new film, which she tags as a tribute to the late music director Bappi Lahiri. Two schedules of the film have already been completed with the final leg of shoot set to take place in a week for which Rituparna is in Mumbai currently.
The yet-to-be-titled film is a dark comedy, directed by Rajan Lallan Puri, and also stars Govind Namdev, Rajpal Yadav, Prem Chopra, Anup Jalota and debutant Anjuman.
