Believe it or not, it was way back in 2017 when we first learned of Todd McFarlane's plans to team with Blumhouse for a new R-Rated Spawn movie.
Spider-Man: No Way Home star Jamie Foxx boarded the movie in 2018, with Hawkeye's Jeremy Renner tapped to play Twitch Williams later that same year.
Since then, we've had what's felt like an endless series of updates from McFarlane. He's talked about redesigning the hero, possibly selling the reboot to a streaming service, issues with the screenplay, and even enlisted new writers in Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Captain America: New World Order) and up-and-coming scribe Matthew Mixon.
Despite all of that, the movie is seemingly no closer to becoming a reality.
"There's a script but the writers are, they're not quite sort of satisfied with their own work, which is what all of us creative people are," McFarlane, who once planned...

“You’ve been making women feel bad about themselves since you were invented,” the hip teen Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt) tells the stereotypical Barbie standing before her. “You represent everything wrong with our culture: sexualized capitalism, unrealistic physical ideals.” Stereotypical Barbie is horrified: “No, no, no, you’re describing something stereotypical,” she insists.
Margot Robbie spent much of Barbie proving why the doll she portrayed wasn’t the sexist object that girls like Sasha see. The Aussie actor has a much more difficult task ahead of her if she’s going to do the same thing in her upcoming project Avengelyne. Everything about Avengelyne screams mindless sex and violence—which is why Robbie is the perfect choice. Hold on, let us explain…

Invincible is having a great run as an animated series, produced by Seth Rogen under Amazon Studios. The show recently wrapped up its second season, one that ended with a bang. However, there are a lot of things that had to change for the adaptation of the comic, specifically because of how many characters from other IPs it featured in its source material.
Invincible (2021-present)
While comics created under the Image Comics label are owned by their respective creators, the characters do share a world with other IPs, and often crossover with each other during major events. Given that an Invincible live-action film is in the works, it is completely possible that Invincible could kick off a shared Image Comics universe, that could bring to the screen a host of beloved characters.

Shaquille O’Neal is one of the best basketball players of all time, but his skills on the court certainly do not match up to his skills on the big screen. As a result, it may come as a surprise to many that O’Neal has been very vocal about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the past despite starring in one of the worst DC movies ever made.
Shaquille O’Neal on The Late Late Show with James Corden
Not only did O’Neal express an interest in joining the multi-billion dollar franchise, but he also wanted to battle it out against the face of MCU, Robert Downey Jr. Here is why O’Neal wanted to fight Downey Jr’s Iron Man on the big screen and the DC movie that was almost proof that such a face-off would not work.

In 1992, comic book writer and artist Todd McFarlane created a new superhero character called Spawn. Five years later, director Mark A.Z. Dippé and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy brought Spawn to the screen in a PG-13 rated movie that didn’t go over well with a lot of fans. There were rumblings of a sequel for years after that, but nothing ever happened. Back around 2005, McFarlane announced he was going to make sure a new Spawn movie was going to be made, even if he had to produce, direct, and finance it himself. For nearly twenty years, he has been slowly pushing that project forward… but there is some level of hope that we might finally see the new Spawn sometime in 2025, so we figured we should put together a list of Everything We Know About the Spawn Reboot.

The tales of Heath Ledger’s dedication to the role of The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight have been shocking the world even though the film was released twelve years ago. The actor famously gave the role his all, locking himself in a room for days, journaling as the Clown of Gotham City, and even begging Christian Bale to beat him up for real.
Heath Ledger as Joker
It is safe to say that the actor gave and earned many scars after playing the role of this iconic character. Even though the methods he used to play the character were extreme, it would seem that there was nothing he would not have done for his perfect performance.

Robert Kirkman’s Invincible is gearing up to launch the second part of its second season, and fans could not be more excited about the show’s return. What has had fans speculating about the story is that Invincible had a cross-company crossover with Spider-Man during his multiversal adventures, which fans are expecting to see in the show, even if it’s a long shot.
Invincible
However, if Spider-Man is to show up in Invincible, Sony and Marvel have the choice to make one of the most iconic backdoor pilots in recent history. While the first episode of Invincible Season 2 Part 2 airs on March 15th, Marvel Animation will be busy releasing its continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series, titled X-Men ’97. This has caused a lot of speculation as to which other animated series could return from Marvel Animation, and one story neatly fits into the niche that this whirlwind of situations has created.

Dr Disrespect is at it again and this time Call of Duty is under his crosshair. The popular video game streamer is often in the news, be it discussing the state of the industry or getting subdued by other YouTubers. In 2020, he was banned from the game streaming platform Twitch. Why? It is still a mystery for everyone to this date.
He launched his Aaa gaming studio dubbed Midnight Society where a shooter game called Deadrop is being developed. However, fans weren’t happy about it as the game incorporates non-fungible tokens (NFTs), a technology often disgraced by the gaming community.

Call of Duty has been having a troubled time since the release of Modern Warfare 3.
In a recent video that he removed from his channel, he slammed Call of Duty for allegedly spending a fortune on Spawn, an in-game character.

The influence of Todd McFarlane can be felt wherever you look in current entertainment. Whether it’s the phenomenal toys that bear a striking resemblance to their real-life counterparts or characters like Venom appearing in his third film venture, it’s hard not to take note. McFarlane created some of the best characters of the 90s in both Venom and Spawn. Heck, his design of Spider-Man is still one of the most memorable out there. And with his proposed Spawn film starring Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner languishing in development hell, you better believe we asked him about that!
It was an absolute pleasure to be able to talk with McFarlane about his varied career. While he was pretty reserved in regard to his future projects, he was a wealth of knowledge when it came to toys. We discussed how his company was able to improve toys as a whole,...

Todd McFarlane has said that 2024 will be the “make or break year” for getting another Spawn project off the ground. And while we have every right to be skeptical on the matter – McFarlane isn’t exactly the most reliable on this front – fans of the character and the 1997 movie may still hold out hope. But will Michael Jai White return for Spawn 2?
As it turns out, Michael Jai White doesn’t give Spawn all that much thought, although he could potentially consider a return. “I really don’t think much about the sequel. If I was invited to do it, then I’d apply myself toward it, but I mean, I think it’s been talked about for a very long time. And it seems that Todd McFarlane has been leading that conversation.” But for White, there would have to be some conditions if he would suit up again. “I...

For a guy that looks like a clear rip-off of Batman and Spider-Man, Spawn has some convoluted backstory. And in the decades since the character first appeared in the original launch of Image Comics, his mythos have only grown more overwrought, with each addition including ever more players in a war between Heaven and Hell.
It may not (yet) involve cyborg gorillas like Cy-Gor or any number of angels and demons who trouble the late Al Simmons, but the saga of a Spawn reboot on the big screen has similarly had a myriad of twists and turns. In 2019, Spawn creator and action figure magnate Todd McFarlane announced a deal with Blumhouse, masters of the B-movie hit. As previously reported here at Den of Geek, Blumhouse gave McFarlane the means to make the superhero movie of his dreams: a “dark, ugly two hours worth of movie” with “no joy.”

Sixteen years have passed since Spawn creator Todd McFarlane announced he was going to make sure a new Spawn movie was going to be made, even if he had to produce, direct, and finance it himself. Blumhouse Productions has been helping McFarlane develop the project since 2017, and even though he had written a script himself, they’ve also hired multiple screenwriters to do further work on the script. Blumhouse founder Jason Blum has said he’s hoping Spawn will be released sometime in 2025… and during a new interview with ComicBook.com, McFarlane said he considers 2024 to be the “make or break” year for Hollywood’s involvement with the reboot. If the movie doesn’t go into production this year, he’s turning to outside investors.

Todd McFarlane, creator of the demonic anti-hero Spawn, is still waiting to see a script emerge from a project that has been in development hell for years.
We’re sure that jokes have been made many times regarding the irony of a demonic superhero film project being trapped in development hell, so we’ll sidestep that opening and go straight for the lead: Todd McFarlane still hasn’t seen a script for Spawn. This is despite Jason Blum ‘promising’ that the film would arrive in 2025.

Another year, another non-update about that Spawn movie that Blumhouse and Todd McFarlane can’t seem to figure out. It’s been a pattern with this project for the past several years that small bits of news are followed by long periods of silence, so don’t get too excited.

Sometimes, it takes an outsider’s point of view to reveal the peculiarities of traditional belief systems – especially when it comes to religion. This is likely why so many people are fascinated with Japanese artists that incorporate Western religion into their work. From the apocalypse of Neon Genesis Evangelion to the pacifism behind Trigun, there’s a long history of anime and manga borrowing from Christian imagery and beliefs in order to tell engaging stories.
In fact, one of the most successful examples of this special kind of cultural fusion happened back in 1972 with the release of Go Nagai’s seminal manga series, Devilman. Long before the days of similar hell-themed heroes like Spawn and Hellboy, Nagai cooked up a horror/superhero hybrid that managed to turn a demonic outbreak into a terrifying anti-war parable.

Quick, name a superhero with a more cynical perspective than Batman. Okay, sure there’s Spawn, but I meant in mainstream comics. Yeah, Punisher, but how about in DC Comics? Sure, there’s John Constantine. But I mean a character less suitable for Christmas stories. What’s that you say? Constantine once crushed the bones of St. Nicolas and snorted them into a powder? And Lobo murdered Santa?
Okay, the point is that Batman doesn’t seem like the type of guy who would make for a good Christmas story. Spider-Man can deliver presents while swinging across New York City and Superman has carried Santa’s slay more than once, but Mr. Vengeance doesn’t even like leaving Gotham. Why would he bother with the North Pole?
And yet, Batman has been at the center of several Christmas stories over the year, and some of them are pretty great. Here...

Over the course of its 50-year existence, Troma has helped launch the careers of filmmakers like Trey Parker & Matt Stone (South Park), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Eli Roth (Hostel), along with countless actors who went on to long careers, but their biggest export by any internal metric — financial success, brand recognition, franchisability, fan base — is 1984’s The Toxic Avenger.
The film is preceded by an “extreme violence” warning. The gore is indeed graphic — the first kill features a kid’s head being run over by a car, firmly establishing that no one is safe and nothing is off limits — but it could use about a dozen more trigger warnings by today’s standards. If you can be offended, you will be offended by the boundary-pushing content that includes (but is certainly not limited to) racism, homophobia, ableism, and sexual misconduct — yet there is substance behind the sleaze.

Jason Blum is bringing the “Blumhouse edge” to the upcoming “Spawn” film adaptation.
During a press line for Blumhouse at New York Comic Con 2023 (per Screen Rant), Blum teased the “Spawn” movie currently in development at his eponymous production company.
“It’s going to be edgy and original as compared to other superhero movies,” he said. “It’s gonna definitely feel like the Blumhouse version of a superhero movie.”
Blumhouse Productions is best known for producing horror movies such as “M3gan,” “Get Out” and the “Paranormal Activity,” “Insidious” and “The Purge” film franchises.
Back in 2017, original comic creator Todd McFarlane announced that a new movie based on his human-turned-Hellspawn was in the works at Blumhouse. McFarlane, who is on board to write and direct the film, is also producing with Blum.
“We just signed [Jason Blum] yesterday,” McFarlane said in a video announcement at the time during San Diego Comic-Con. “No more theoretical … It’s coming.

The new Spawn movie is coming!
The long-awaited reboot of the film, which has been plagued by delays, is set to be released in 2025, according to Jason Blum, CEO of Blumhouse.

All hail the antihero.
The idea of an antihero has always been one that’s appealed to me. Grey areas, especially in morality, make for dynamic storytelling and sometimes, even if we don’t want to admit it, relatable characters.
In horror, villains are often more memorable than heroes—after all, you’re more likely to wear a Freddy Krueger costume for Halloween than a white cropped football jersey, but that doesn’t mean that even the worst villains aren’t without their own tragic backstories. However, a tragic backstory does not necessarily make a villain worthy of sympathy.

By 1998, it was a certainty that the studios had all but given up on superhero movies. After the financial flops that were Steel and Spawn, along with the sheer critical universal panning of Batman & Robin, the prospects for future superhero movies seemed dim. In the nineties it was very difficult for even a Batman movie to get off the ground, with properties like Superman, Iron Man, and Spider-Man stuck in a decade long development purgatory at their respective studios.
But in 1998, New Line Cinema took a shot on what was considered a somewhat “C” level superhero in the form of Blade. Within the Marvel Universe there exists a horror sub-universe where characters like Mephisto, Ghost Rider, Morbius, and Man-Thing roam, and Blade was considered one of their greatest foils and adversaries. Created by Gene Colan and Marv Wolfman, Blade was introduced in 1973 in “The Tomb of Dracula” #10. He was one...

Earlier this year, we lost Lance Reddick, a brilliant actor and commanding presence in film, television, video games, and beyond. When he wasn’t tending to the needs of assassins in the John Wick franchise or hiding secrets about a zombie apocalypse in Netflix’s Resident Evil series, he voiced Commander Zavala for Bungie’s long-running first-person-shooter video game franchise, Destiny. Sadly, now that Reddick is no longer with us, Bungie must appoint his successor. Thankfully, beloved actor Keith David is stepping into Zavala’s reinforced boots.
Bungie announced David’s appointment to the role on its official website, alongside a heartfelt message about Reddick and his contribution to the franchise:
Earlier this year, we lost Lance Reddick, the English-language voice actor of Commander Zavala. The passion and professionalism Lance brought to the role over the last decade was unmistakable and loved by all. Lance’s iconic voice led us...

While much of the initial fanbase that helped turn Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into a pop culture phenomenon aged out following the original cartoon (1987-1996) and live action movies (1990-1993), the property has continued to flourish with reboots in TV, film, and comics every few years.
If the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has you interested in exploring various versions of Tmnt, there’s no better place for a horror fan to start than Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series that aired for five seasons between 2012 and 2017.
While there’s an inherent connection to horror in the various mutants and monsters that pop up throughout the franchise, no rendition embraces the genre nearly as much as this one. In addition to references to classics like Alien, Friday the 13th, and The Evil Dead, the series employed several notable horror actors throughout its 124-episode run.

The Spawn movie franchise has been plagued with stop/starts for the better part of 15 years. After an HBO animated series adaptation, 1997 brought Todd McFarlane’s Image Comics banner hero to the big screen to a less-than-stellar reaction. It has been a different world ever since and with the major takeover of comic book movies, it has been the ideal time for a reboot, especially with the proven success of a violence-filled R-rated superhero franchise like the Deadpool movies.
With the unfortunate cards dealt recently with Jamie Foxx’s health and now the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Todd McFarlane recently gave an uncertain update on the status of the Spawn reboot speaking with ScreenRant at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con — an event usually reserved for the biggest and most exclusive news on big upcoming films, but the strikes have nearly all the studios skipping this year.

Jamie Foxx has spoken out about an undisclosed “medical complication” that sent him to the hospital back in April. In a new video posted to Instagram, the actor — without sharing details about what the complication entailed — thanked fans for their well wishes and assured them he was on the road to recovery.
“I want to say thank you to everyone that’s prayed, sent me messages… I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back,” Foxx said. “I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through. And I know a lot of people were waiting or wanted to hear updates, but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that. I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show.

What’s going on with Blumhouse’s Spawn movie, you may be wondering? It’s been a pattern with this project that small bits of news are followed by long periods of radio silence, so it’s no surprise that it’s been almost a year since we’ve gotten an update. Let’s recap.
Back in October of last year, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane announced that Blumhouse was still on board the Spawn ship and that Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Matthew Mixon had been hired the write the script. Additionally, at the time, Jamie Foxx was still attached to star as the title character.
It’s been a long hard road out of development hell with his brand new Spawn feature, which Todd McFarlane had originally planned to direct. It seems he’s stepped aside from those desires, however, with a new...

A new film based on the Image Comics character Spawn has been in development hell for a long, long time. Spawn creator Todd McFarlane first announced that it was in the works back in 2007. Blumhouse Productions got involved in 2017. Jamie Foxx signed on to play Spawn in 2018. But apparently they’ve had a lot of difficulty figuring out the script. Last year, it was announced that a trio of writers – Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Captain America: Brave New World), and Matthew Mixom (Yesterday Was Everything) – were working on it. Of course, the writers strike has put a stop to any progress that was being made… but in a new interview with ComicBook.com, Blumhouse founder Jason Blum has said he’s hoping Spawn will be released sometime in 2025.
Asked if there’s any hope for this new Spawn, Blum replied, “I would say you have a lot to hope for...

It’s been nearly 25 years since a proper adaptation of Todd McFarlane‘s Spawn appeared on the big screen. The HBO animated series was nearly perfect in every way. Though Spawn was canceled following a huge cliffhanger, it showcased a unique perspective on heroism. It wasn’t just a mindless animated showed where he’d take down the bad guy of the week. Rather it was a dark noir story that touched on themes of morality, depression, and betrayal throughout its three-season run. The animated series did an incredible job of fleshing out Al Simmons. Needless to say, he remains one of the...

After spending several weeks hospitalized for an undisclosed medical condition, Jamie Foxx is at home and recuperating, according to his daughter, Corinne Foxx.
Corinne addressed rumors surrounding her father’s health in an Instagram post on Friday. “Sad to see how the media runs wild,” she wrote. “My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!”
Foxx was initially hospital on April 12th, and was still receiving care as recently as May 3rd. His family declined to address the nature of the actor’s condition, but did ask fans to “pray for Jamie.”
In her Friday update, Corinne also teased an “exciting work announcement coming next week.” Jamie is next set to star in a reboot film centered around the Image Comics antihero Spawn. He also hosts the lyric game show Beat Shazam, on...

On April 12th, Corinne Foxx — daughter of Jamie Foxx — announced that her father had been hospitalized for an undisclosed “medical complication.” Three weeks later, the 55-year-old entertainer is apparently still in the hospital, with sources telling TMZ that Foxx’s family is asking everyone to “pray for Jamie.”
Foxx’s family is keeping mum about what sent him to the hospital, although they’d previously announced that he was on his way to recovery. At the time of his emergency, Foxx was filming the upcoming comedy Back in Action opposite Cameron Diaz, and producers have reportedly continued to film with stunt and body doubles in his place.
Foxx also hosts the lyric game show Beat Shazam, on which Corinne DJs; TMZ reports that the show has continued filming with another host, while Corinne is also absent to attend to her father in an Atlanta hospital. Fellow comedians like Tracy Morgan,...

Jedi: Survivor is filled with secrets and optional content that is surprisingly easy to miss. While some of that content will only appeal to completionists, some of the game’s optional content should be pursued by all players who want to see the best of what Survivor has to offer. Survivor‘s collection of Legendary enemies is probably the best example of that arguably necessary “optional” content.
Jedi: Survivor‘s Legendary enemies aren’t just some of the toughest bosses in the game; they’re also the hardest fights to actually find. That being the case, here’s a brief rundown of where to find all of the game’s Legendary enemies.

In the wake of Tim Burton's "Batman" movies, Alan Moore's "Watchmen" and "Swamp Thing" run, and the subsequent rise of grim, violent characters like the Punisher and Spawn, X-Men stalwart Wolverine became one of the most popular characters around. With his metal retractable claws, ever-present cigar, and berserker rage mode, he seemed more suited to the moment than some of his more goody-goody mutant hero cohorts. It's safe to say that in the '90s, he was probably the most beloved comics character not to have a movie yet. In part, Hollywood was torn: should they make a Wolverine solo film first, or go full-on X-Men? The majority of superhero movies up to that point featured singular heroes in worlds where no others existed. A team film, then, might stretch credulity with audiences used to suspending disbelief only as far as one.

Twitch‘s decision to change its creator/platform revenue split from 70/30 (in favor of creators) to 50/50 continues to haunt it.
In an April 4 Twitter thread, Twitch said it’s conducting several “experiments” related to sponsored content, where brands partner up with creators and sponsor their streams. Plenty of Twitch streamers already regularly hold sponsored streams, and secure those brand partners themselves–meaning they get all the revenue from their deals.
Streamers say Twitch’s new experiments are an attempt to take a cut of that sponsorship revenue for itself.

As with many superheroes, Blue Beetle has a long and varied publishing history. The original version of the character first appeared in the pages of Fox Comics' "Mystery Men Comics" #1 way back in August of 1939, around the same time Superman and Batman were just gaining traction. That version of Blue Beetle gained superpowers by consuming special vitamin tablets. A second version of Blue Beetle was folded into DC Comics during its notorious Crisis on Infinite Earths event — Blue Beetle 2.0 was more like Iron Man, using technology and a super-powered suit to fight crime.
The most recent version of Blue Beetle -- the version that inspired the character in Angel Manuel Soto's upcoming feature film -- is a teenager named Jaime Reyes who chances into the possession of a mystical scarab that attaches to his body and grants him a "living" costume that adapts to protect him. Like Venom, the...

There’s nothing quite like when HBO is airing one of its trademark watercooler-worthy dramas weekly. Thankfully, we’ll get to it experience exactly that and more on HBO Max in March 2023.
The big ticket item on HBO Max this March is undoubtedly Succession Season 4 on March 26. Part prestige drama and part screwball comedy, Succession is about as fun a watch as they come. Season 4 of the series about egregious wealth will find the Roy siblings reeling after trying and failing to take down their father, Logan (Brian Cox).
HBO Max’s other major TV option this month is another weekly release from HBO. Matthew Rhys returns as the titular lawyer in Perry Mason Season 2 on March 6. Season 1 of this period piece reboot flexed the classic TV character’s detective skills. From the look of the trailer, it seems as though this is the year Perry makes his name in the court room.

He made his incredible mark by taking on a complex role in his breakthrough performance as Mike Tyson in the HBO original film, Tyson, which can still be viewed on HBO Max. He was the first and only actor to date to bring the cult comic superhero Spawn to life on the big screen. And today, you can see him in his new action film, in which he stars and wrote, titled As Good As Dead.

While properties such as Marvel and DC Comics sport countless characters who shine on their own, arguably some of the most memorable stories feature disparate heroes banding together to take down threats larger than anyone can handle alone.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is the latest game by Firaxis Games, the studio best known for the modern Xcom franchise. The game is loosely based on a team of the same name, which features a rotating roster of Marvel’s more gothic and magical characters. In the comics, the Midnight Suns’ members teamed up to fight Lilith, Mother of Demons, and the Midnight Suns game follows the same plot but with characters from throughout the Marvel universe. Many heroes in the game are or were previous members of the Midnight Suns group, while others are newcomers to the team. Firaxis hired an appropriately diverse and talented group of voice actors to bring all the game’s characters,...
