The official website for Koji Kawano’s Gangsta has been updated with a trailer. Unfortunately, the production values of this one make Badboys look big-budget in comparison.
Based on a novel by Fuyuki Shindo, the film is set at the top yankee (delinquent) school in Japan. An overly enthusiastic freshman named Ginji (Hiromi Sakimoto) flirts with his teacher Maya (Misato Hirata), leading to a chance encounter with Riki Shiraishi (Yuki Kubota). Outwardly, Riki seems like a typical pretty boy, but is actually an incredibly tough fighter. Ginji becomes obsessed with facing off against Riki and proving himself as a “gangsta”, but Riki is too preoccupied with a girl to pay any attention to him. In the meantime, Ginji gets into confrontations with several other yankees, making new friends and enemies before finally getting the chance to face off against Riki for the title of top gangsta.
