Theodor Heuss was born on January 31, 1884 in Brackenheim, Kingdom of Württemberg [now Baden-Württemberg], Germany. He was married to Elly Heuss-Knapp. He died on December 12, 1963 in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
President of the Federal Republic of Germany (12 September 1949 to 12 September 1959).
Did not run for another term as President, so the Grundgesetz ("basic
laws", or, the constitution) had to be changed to restrict the terms of
the Presidency to two.
He had a son with wife "Elly" Heuss-Knapp.
He was briefly a Bundestag deputy until he was nominated to the
Presidency.
Third elected President of Germany, and the first President of
then-West Germany.
