The HollyShorts Film Festival is held annually in August, but to keep the momentum going all year, the organizers have monthly screenings of outstanding short films. As it turns out, one of them, The Bighead, was a little too much for the audience to handle. Read on for the details.
The screening of Michael Ling's The Bighead at the November 6 event caused quite an uproar with at least 20 people walking out of the theater because of the film's violence and scenes that were deemed disgusting, vile, and (everyone's favorite buzz phrase) "torture porn."
Apparently it didn't stop there as the festival organizers have been getting many complaints and being questioned on why they would select such a controversial short film. Additionally, people are filing petitions and threatening to contact the MPAA. What the fuck? There hasn't been fallout over a movie like this since A Serbian Film surfaced.

At the first-ever CineMayhem Film Fest this past weekend, the trailer for indie filmmaker Michael Ling's upcoming short film Edward Lee's The Bighead premiered on the silver screen before the final film of the fest, Resolution.
Now we've got the trailer right here on Dread Central to share with you fiends exclusively!
Based on Edward Lee's seminal and wildly controversial 2003 novel "Edward Lee's The Bighead," this harrowing tale is set in the West Virginian backwoods where vicious monsters, both human and supernatural, go on a terrifying rampage in search of a special young woman. Their path of destruction uncovers long held secrets and puts the fate of the entire world in jeopardy.
The short film stars Raquel Cantu as the untamable sexpot Jerrica, Carrie Malabre as the shy Charity, Orson Chaplin as the demented psychopath Tritt "Balls" Connor, and Lance Trezona as Tritt's dim-witted accomplice Dicky. Also starring...

*full disclosure: a Blu-Ray screener of this film was provided by Indican Pictures.
Director/writer: Ric La Monte.
The Tenant is a feature that went straight-to-video August 9th on DVD and Blu-Ray through Indican Pictures. This is a film that stars Michael Berryman, Randy Molnar and Bill Cobbs, in what is a slow burn initially that changes into a predictable film later. The Tenant blends genres from horror to science fiction with some film elements hampering the enjoyment of the film. There are audio issues early that will have some audience members playing with their remotes. Turn the volume up, then down! and again. Also the acting from Ashley Totin is atrociously bad. Laughing during your murder is not the performance you should be after. And horror genre fans will see the late character reveal a mile away. This makes The Tenant hard to recommend.
The plot breaks down as follows: Dr.

The Tenant is the latest horror movie from Indican Pictures and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Writer and director Ric La Monte has delivered a horror fans breath of fresh air. Of course we get a group of kids who are easy victims but this group is hearing impaired which makes for more of an interesting story and we get our movie monster that is very confrontational, he goes right after you and nobody is safe!
The Tenant begins with horror vet Bill Cobbs making an “illegal” overnight delivery to Dr. Newman (Randy Molnar) who is experimenting trying to find a cure for deformities and he’s also using some of his patients bone marrow to do this, one patient in particular is Arthur Delman who is played by horror vet Michael Berryman. Berryman hits a homerun portraying this wacko patient who has a craving for human flesh and a real fear of his doctor.

Producer/Actor Randy Molnar just hit Fangoria with a batch of stills and the latest trailer for Ric La Monte's The Tenant. The film was recently completed in Florida, and the filmmakers promise that it "brings together a dramatic classic feel with its tale of horror at Edgewood Asylum, and transforms into a modern day masterpiece of mayhem, with outstanding special effects and surprising twists."
J. Larose (Saw III, Repo!, Mother's Day) toplines the film along with horror icon Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, The Devil's Rejects) and Bill Cobbs (Night At The Museum).
As the tormented Dr. Newman (Randy Molnar- Contract Killers, This Man’s Life, Larry the Cable Guy) conducts his dark experiments inside Edgewood Asylum, something goes horribly wrong. Twenty-eight years later, in the depths of the asylum, something evil still survives. The Tenant takes you on a terrifying ride of shocking images and a bloody conclusion.
