Everything’s coming full circle with Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). You will return for its fifth and final season on Netflix with your favorite serial killer back in New York City for one last round of mayhem. But will Ed Speleers be back as Rhys Montrose, the devil on Joe’s shoulder and figment of his imagination? “I would absolutely love a Rhys return,” Speleers tells TV Insider. “But as it stands, there’s nothing yet. If it ends up being Rhys isn’t involved, I feel very honored that I got so much from that and so much time to play because Rhys was a great part to play. Again, I’m privileged and grateful to Netflix for giving me that chance because it was a different way for me to work. But at the moment, no, I’ve not heard.” Speleers first appeared as Rhys in You Season...

To combat the ominous atmosphere of the Ides of March, Netflix has another Lindsay Lohan film, “Irish Wish,” which is now streaming. The follow-up to “Falling for Christmas” in Lohan’s deal with the streamer to make two films, “Irish Wish” focuses on love, luck and a little bit of magic in the rom-com that arrives right before Saint Patrick’s Day.
Lohan portrays a smart book editor, except when it comes to matters of her heart. It takes a wish granted by a mystical woman out in the beautiful Irish countryside to get Maddie to realize that what she hopes and dreams for might not be what she wants or should want in life.
Featuring music from Lohan’s younger sister, Aliana, and a guest appearance from her brother, Dokota, the cast is stacked with other familiar faces as well. We’ve rounded up the “Irish Wish” cast and...

Irish Wish marks Lindsay Lohan’s second romantic comedy with Netflix. Signed to a multi-picture deal, she’ll have at least one more, Our Little Secret, expected later this year. The first film, Falling For Christmas, had some charm simply for being set during Christmas. But it played it so safe. It didn’t take any chances, and seemed hesitant to go for anything fun. Unfortunately, Irish Wish closely follows suit.
Irish Wish Plot
Lohan plays Maddie, an book editor. She has recently finished working on a book with charming author Paul Kennedy (Alexander Vlahos). Over their time working together, Maddie has fallen in love with Paul, but has not been able to muster the courage to tell him. On the night of the book release, she decides to go for it. But before she can, Paul meets and hits it off with Maddie’s friend Emma (Elizabeth Tan). It...

Irish Wish is a Netflix romantic comedy movie starring Lindsay Lohan. With Ed Speleers and Alexander Vlahos.
You know those films where a girl wants to get married, the jokes lack punch and the imagery and characters seem like they were plucked from a greeting card? “Irish Wish” is one of those, although it carries a certain degree of irony and the appeal of seeing our favorite redhead, Lindsay Lohan, back in action.
This is one of those films that, thanks to God or some black hole, you are not likely to remember.

When two stars have “chemistry,” we tend to think of it as basic animal magnetism. And maybe that’s the essence of it. Yet when a romantic movie works, even a synthetic magical rom-com trifle like “Irish Wish,” what draws us into the chemistry isn’t simply the actors’ sexy connection. It’s that the two characters have chemistry, and that each actor has it with the audience. That’s the connection Lindsay Lohan and Ed Speleers have in “Irish Wish. The movie is as frothy as the foam on a pint of Guinness, as formulaic as the last disposable Netflix rom-com. Yet these two make you believe that they belong together, and not every romantic comedy does that.

Ensign Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes) first appeared in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Ensign Ro", and she introduced an interesting character dynamic to the series. Whereas most of the characters on "Next Generation" were wholly devoted to Starfleet principals and unwaveringly loyal to Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart), Ensign Ro felt that Starfleet frequently let suffering go unacknowledged. She was combative and disobedient as a result, often openly defying her captain and responding to diplomatic solutions with belligerence.
Forbes' performance was so assured and defiant, however, that Ro's disobedience never felt impulsive or immature. Her reactions were organic and principled, revealing a hardened but understandable heart. Ro only appeared in eight episodes of "Next Generation," but she was always welcome to shake up the system and offer metaphorical headbutts to her commanding officers.
Ro's final "Next Generation" episode was "Preemptive Strike" wherein she found herself sympathizing with a group...

The third season of "Star Trek: Picard," overseen by showrunner Terry Matalas, ended with an intriguing new setup. After the season's story had concluded, the action fast-forwarded one year to when Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) had become a provisionary ensign in Starfleet. Jack, with his father (Patrick Stewart) and mother (Gates McFadden), took a good long gander at his new assignment, the Titan-a, newly rechristened the Enterprise-g. This new ship was to be captained by Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), formerly the first officer on board the Titan-a, and the vessel was poised to go on its first deep-space mission with its new name.
Also on board were Raffi (Michelle Hurd), Seven's ex-girlfriend and also her first officer, as well as former Titan crewmembers Lieutenant Matthew Arliss Mura (Joseph Lee), Ensign Kova Rin Esmar (Jin Maley), and presumably Dr. Ohk (Tiffany Shepis). In a post-credits stinger after the final "Picard" episode,...

The respectable Saturn Awards were first launched in 1973 by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, and have been presented annually ever since.
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" has won multiple Saturns in the past, notably winning Best Genre Series twice during its initial run. Additionally, Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner won Saturns for their acting, playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data respectively. Frustratingly, no other member of the show's venerated ensemble won Saturns for their performance.
Until now. As announced by TrekMovie, a special Lifetime Achievement Saturn award will be given to Stewart, Spiner, Marina Sirtis, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, Jonathan Frakes, and Wil Wheaton. That group represents the core ensemble of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," with most of them having appeared in all seven seasons of the TV series and in four movies. The character of Dr. Carol Marcus (Bibi Besch) was introduced in Nicholas Meyer's 1982 film "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." Dr. Marcus had invented a revolutionary terraforming technology called the Genesis Wave which could be fired into a planet and rearrange the entire world's ecosystem to make it livable. In "Khan," the technology was still untested, and Dr. Marcus was searching for a life-free planet -- sans even scant microbes -- to terraform. With her was her bitter son David (Merritt Butrick) who expressed quite openly how much he hated the formalism and military underpinnings of Starfleet. He would rather carry out scientific experiments with his mother in peace.
It would eventually be revealed that Dr. Marcus was an old lover of Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) and that David was actually Kirk's long-lost son. "Star Trek II" was at least partially devoted to Kirk reconnecting with Dr. Marcus,...

The final two episodes of "Star Trek: Picard," called "Võx" and "The Last Generation" respectively, concluded the season's strangest mystery. The young Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) had revealed on several occasions that he possessed eerie and inexplicable psychic powers. Not only could he read people's minds, but he could project his consciousness into other people's bodies and take control of them remotely. He also was inexplicably a martial arts expert and was capable of killing bad guys in ways he didn't think he was capable of.
The final explanation for his powers was perhaps a little silly. It turns out his long-lost father was Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and he inherited a Borg gene from his father. Picard, it seems, received the Borg gene from when he had been assimilated decades prior. The inherited gene gave Jack superpowers and also psychically lured him into the clutches of the insidious Borg Queen,...

In the third and final season of "Star Trek: Picard," a vicious Changeling named Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer) is eager to apprehend Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), the son of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Vadic is a vicious killer who has no compunction about blowing up ships and murdering thousands. It seems she and several of her Changeling compatriots were medically tortured during the Dominion War (a conflict dramatized on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine") and was in no mood to offer forgiveness. Vadic commanded a starship she called the Shrike, a massive, pointy, claw-like vessel that was armed to the teeth. Captain Riker (Jonathan Frakes) took one look at the Shrike and declared it to be more guillotine than starship.
On the bridge of the Shrike, Vadic sat in an enormous chair, surrounded in the shadows by masked servants who fired weapons and cut down enemy combatants. The chair, as it so happens,...

Few living legends have done more to earn a happy and well-deserved retirement quite like Patrick Stewart, who devoted decades of his career to bringing Captain Jean-Luc Picard to life throughout various eras of the "Star Trek" franchise. With age comes plaudits, a sense of fulfillment, and the comforting knowledge of a job well done ... and also, apparently, the ceaseless drive to keep the good times rolling.

At the conclusion of the third season of "Star Trek: Picard," after the villains had been defeated, showrunner Terry Matalas had properly and carefully set up another "Star Trek" spinoff series, should Paramount+ have wanted it. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) had received a posthumous recommendation for a captaincy from her late commanding officer Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick) and was put in command of the U.S.S. Titan-a, now newly rechristened the U.S.S. Enterprise-g. One can perhaps assume that the rechristening was a special favor for the aging Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) now over 100 and happy to have a legacy.
Also serving on the Enterprise-g were a raft of characters seen throughout "Picard," most notably Seven's ex-girlfriend Raffi (Michelle Hurd), who would serve as her first officer. Picard's adult son Jack (Ed Speleers) was hastened through Starfleet Academy and was already serving as an ensign. Also...

There's one pressing question on the minds of every Trekkie out there: What do we have to do to convince Paramount to give the "Strange New Worlds" writers 20+ episodes so they can fully wild out and throw every zany concept they have at us for as long as possible? Okay, maybe there are two questions, the second of which might be even more important: When are we finally going to get a "Star Trek: Legacy" series?
Season 3 of "Picard," which turned into an extended reunion special with Patrick Stewart and almost the entire cast of "The Next Generation," quickly led to calls from fans who wanted to experience more adventures of the crew of the USS Titan-a. With Picard and his Enterprise-d crew sailing into a(nother) well-earned retirement, the finale left us on the tantalizing note of Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine, Picard's son Jack (Ed Speleers), and...

As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, for better and for worse, companies like Netflix are trying to find new ways to stay relevant and keep people coming back to watch their movies and TV shows over the competition’s. Netflix is well known for making the binge-watch model of release popular, with entire seasons dropping on the streamer at once to encourage viewers to consume a series as fast as they can. But now that weekly episode releases are becoming popular again for TV shows on services like Hulu, Disney+, and Max, Netflix seems to be trying to find a way to keep up hype for their shows beyond the first week a season drops.
Rather than entirely scrapping the binge-watch model, Netflix has instead chosen to adopt a hybrid of sorts where they split seasons into two parts and release them separately.

During a recent Gold Derby video interview, senior editor Daniel Montgomery and contributor Tony Ruiz spoke in-depth with Patrick Stewart (“Star Trek: Picard”) about his Paramount Plus sci-fi drama, which is eligible at the 2023 Emmys. Watch the full video above and read the complete interview transcript below.
While the final season finds Stewart’s iconic character, Jean-Luc Picard, in the comfort of working with his old crew, the admiral is far from comfortable. He deals with the sudden discovery that he has a grown son (Ed Speleers) with Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) that he must protect from Vadic (Amanda Plummer), a vengeance-seeking Changeling hell bent on capturing Picard’s son.
“It was in every sense, an extraordinary experience,” Stewart revealed about his three-season return to the world of “Star Trek.” The legendary actor later added, “And although I had serious doubts to begin with, at the end, I regretted nothing.

“We’re all blessed in some ways but also cursed to have the amount of legacy on this show because it means that you have almost 56 years of creative material to draw from, but that also means you have a lot of rules and regulations and canon that you have to adhere to. So there’s a kind of pressure to it as well,” notes “Star Trek: Picard” showrunner Terry Matalas about the technical details that have accumulated throughout “Trek” history. We talked to Matalas for our “Making Of” panel series along with costume designer Michael Crow, makeup department head James MacKinnon, prosthetics designer Vincent Van Dyke and visual effects supervisor Jason Zimmerman. “Star Trek” hasn’t been recognized by the Emmys for acting since the original series aired in the 1960s. Back then Leonard Nimoy earned three bids for his iconic role as Spock. But no actors from the franchise have been nominated since. Will that change with the third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard”? “Oh I had many concerns,” admits Sir Patrick Stewart about the prospect of reuniting the the original crew of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” for the third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard.” As the actor confesses in a recent interview with Gold Derby (watch above), those concerns boiled down to a single central question: “Should I really do this at all?”
Ultimately, Stewart says, the decision to reprise the role of Jean-Luc Picard after so many years came down to the idea of change. Stewart realized that he had changed over the two decades since he had last played the role. “That’s exactly the situation that Picard is in,” he says. “He’s not the same person, and right away that was my cue to investigating what he might have become.”

The final scenes of "Star Trek: Picard" saw Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) commanding the newly christened Enterprise-g (previously the Titan-a), taking her ship out on a brand new exploratory mission, exhilaratingly adding to the "Star Trek" legacy. Her first officer was her ex-girlfriend Commander Musiker (Michelle Hurd), and the ship is being piloted by Ensign La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) Geordi's daughter. Notably, Jean-Luc Picard's son Jack (Ed Speleers) sat at the captain's left hand serving as her special council.
Just before leaping to warp, the crew turns to their captain in expectation, wondering how she's going to give the order to activate the engines. Picard previously said "Engage" on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," as well as "Make it so." Other captains have adopted other dramatic phrases such as "Let's punch it" (Pike in the 2009 "Star Trek" film) or "I would like the ship to go.

This story about “Picard” originally appeared in the Race Begins issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
In 1994, after its seventh and final season, “Star Trek: The Next Generation” was nominated for its lone Best Drama Series Emmy. Patrick Stewart, who anchored the show as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, remembers the nomination well. It was the same year he got a SAG Award nomination.
“Those two were the only two (above-the-line) nominations that we got,” Stewart said. “Next Generation” was nominated for several Creative Arts Emmys—for crafts like makeup, cinematography, sound mixing and more—but was otherwise consistently overlooked. “The fact that Brent Spiner was never acknowledged in that way for his extraordinary work playing an android for seven seasons. And Jonathan (Frakes) and LeVar (Burton) and Marina (Sirtis). We got used to it. We knew there was going to be no acknowledgment…until the very last season.” Which is exactly what happened.

There was an epilogue at the end of "Star Trek: Picard" that was set a year after the events of the season's climax. In it, Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), the son of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), had already graduated from Starfleet Academy, having been placed on an accelerated educational track (the Academy is typically a four-year program). Already in uniform and bearing the rank of ensign, Jack was ready to be posted to his first starship. It was implied that Jack would be stationed on the U.S.S. Titan-a, the ship on which most of the final season's action took place.
While Jack was indeed stationed on board the Titan-a, there was a cute nostalgic twist for viewers. Just for funsies, Starfleet decided to rechristen the Titan-a as the Enterprise-g. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) was to be the Enterprise-g's captain, and her ex-girlfriend Raffi (Michelle Hurd) was to be her first officer.

Joining the cast of "Star Trek: Picard" in its third season could be one seriously intimidating thing, as the core cast has worked together and known one another for more than 30 years. But English actor Ed Speleers found himself right at home. The performer plays Jack Crusher, the son of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), making him the one who could possibly carry the torch for the cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" into the next generation. Thankfully, Speleers fit into the cast and world of "Star Trek" like he had belonged there all along, bringing a swashbuckling roguishness that "Picard" was lacking. Season 3 of "Star Trek: Picard" is full of big emotions, which is no surprise considering it reconnects the cast from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" after decades for one last hurrah. It also, however, turned out to be pretty emotional for one of its new stars.
Ed Speleers, who plays Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Dr. Beverly Crusher's (Gates McFadden) adult son, Jack Crusher, also found himself being emotionally affected by the sentimental storytelling. The third season takes a new direction under showrunner Terry Matalas, focusing on Picard's legacy and the complicated relationships between parents and their children. Just as Picard had to reconcile his traumatic past with his parents' pain during his upbringing, Jack has to reckon with the fact that his father is one of the most important people in the whole galaxy.
