What If gives a slightly different spin on romantic comedies, and more importantly, it gives Zoe Kazan a chance to get the exposure she deserves.
More than just your typical rom-com, What If spins the “friendship” question into new nooks and crannies of the relationship world, and does so from the perspective of some excessively quirky characters. Daniel Radcliffe, who to me has had varying levels of success attempting a wide array of characters, looks to have this role nailed down… possibly because there is a bit of Harry Potter about Wallace.
The new clip below expands on the “friendship bargain” you get in the trailer above, and is a pretty clever moment for the film.
Check it out, and make sure you have August 8th on your calendar.

As Peter and Neal head to the office, Neal complains about how boring mortgage fraud cases are. "We stare at paperwork all day." Yeah, I'd be bored too. FBI headquarters is filled with running agents and Hughes calls Peter in right away. As we've never seen anyone move with the slightest hint of urgency in this office, something big is up. Neal inflates his ego, Lauren is snarky, and the FBI has a missing agent. Ah! The rush makes sense. Lauren exposits that they lost contact with Mark Costa 12 hours previously, but don't know what happened. It's not often the white collar division has this kind of action. Hughes finger summons Neal to Lauren's chagrin and Neal snarks back at her as he goes. Peter tells us that Agent Costa went undercover as a drug trafficker needing money laundered to nail Lao Shen, who heads back to China in 72 hours.

Weird double piece of good new, bad news regarding Casey Affleck on this Friday evening. First, Affleck's private life is about to become a carnival show of its own. This is related to some stunts on I'm Still Here. The good news portion: Affleck the actor is taking the lead in a Fox Searchlight rom com that has been mounted with indie helmer Alex Holdridge in the director's chair. In a Duplass bros. like scenario, Holdrige is moving from small indie In Search of a Midnight Kiss, to big "indie" with The F-Word. His debut film won the Independent Spirit's John Cassavetes Award - for films under 500,000 budget. Based on the play "Cigars and Toothpaste" by T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi, scripted by Elan Mastai, this revolves around a young man named Wallace and woman whose budding romance threatens their friendship. The screenplay was a Black List favorite and...

Japanese animation property "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" has become the subject of a legal battle between a group of indie producers and a family company that controls the property.
In a suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, indie producers James Young, Ford Oelman and Mark Costa of banners Animus Films and Nho Entertainment allege that St. Louis-based World Events, which holds rights to the television property, and its partner Kickstart Prods. negotiated illegally with other producers during what the producers say was an exclusive period.
"World Events secretly conspired with Jason Netter and Kickstart Entertainment to find investors and make the movie without Nho and Animus during the terms of the exclusive deal," the suit says.
The plaintiffs are suing for breach of contract, fraud and interference with contractual relations, and are seeking various forms of damages.
