The Fireflies
The Fireflies were an American rock vocal group that formed in Long
Island, NY, in 1957. They went through several personnel changes over
the next few years, but by 1959 the group consisted of
Ritchie Adams, Paul Giacalone (who died of cancer in
2013), Lee Reynolds, John Viscelli and Carl Girosli. Their biggest hit
came in that same year, "You Were Mine", released on the independent
Ribbon Records label and written by group member Giacalone, which has
since become a "doo-wop" classic. It hit the #21 spot on the Billboard
Hot 100 chart. Unfortunately, it was their only chart hit. They
recorded a variety of singles for a variety of labels, but further
success eluded them and they finally broke up in 1967.
