The following contains The Flash spoilers
The Flash Season 9 Episode 7
Although we’re well into The Flash’s final season, the show appears to be taking a breather before gearing up for its last run (pun absolutely intended) with a handful of what showrunner Eric Wallace likes to call “interludes,” quieter installments that tend to focus on smaller stories or highlight the show’s supporting characters. “Wildest Dreams” isn’t an hour that necessarily moves the plot of the season forward all that much—though it does touch once again on Iris’ emotional discomfort with the idea of her future being a set path that doesn’t allow her to make her own choices—but it’s a great example of the deft interconnectivity that has always been a hallmark of The CW’s Arrowverse.
With The Flash concluding with season 9 and the futures of shows like Superman & Lois uncertain,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the Supergirl two-parter series finale.
It’s all or nothing for Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers and her Super Friends in the final hours of the CW’s Supergirl.
Kicking off with “The Last Gauntlet,” Supergirl picks up right were the previous installment left off – with Esme (Mila Jones) in Lex (Jon Cryer) and Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) possession. A hostage in hand, the criminals-turned-lovers propose that Kara, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and the rest of the gang trade in their totems for the kid. Of course, this is before Lex and Nyxly realize that the Love totem, absorbed by Esme in the previous episode, is already looking for a new host.
J’onn (David Harewood), Kara, Alex and Kelly (Azie Tesfai) reflect on how they’ve put their loved ones in danger – grieving the recent death of William Dey (Staz Nair). They’re all...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “Kara,” the series finale of “Supergirl.”
After six seasons of saving National City, “Supergirl” has come to a close — but not before Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), had to make a number of life-changing decisions.
With villains Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) and Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) in-fighting at the start of the Nov. 9 series finale, titled “Kara,” the people of Earth became increasingly despondent as the bad guys sucked out their life force. Kara realized her entire mission was noble, but flawed: “We don’t need to be heroes,” she explained to her Super friends. “We need to be partners.”
The next step was empowering people to become the heroes of their own lives, which Supergirl conveyed worldwide thanks to a power assist from Brainy (Jesse Rath). In addition to helping humanity, it also drained Lex and Nyxly’s power,...

Melissa Benoist’s time as Supergirl for the CW is nearing its end as the supe series heads to its finale in November. During a Thursday panel at the virtual New York Comic Con, Benoist reflected on her time as the titular superhero and her next steps.
“I don’t think I truly realized what I was signing up for, so my expectations…my mind was blown right form the start,” Benoist said. “It was one of the hardest, most challenging experiences of my life, and I think it will remain that for the rest of my life.”
In September 2020, The CW revealed that the superhero series would end with its sixth and final season. Supergirl debuted in October 2015 on CBS before joining The CW lineup for Season 2 in October 2016.

This Supergirl article contains spoilers for Season 6, Episode 7, “Fear Knot.”
Supergirl Season 6 Episode 7
Supergirl’s mid-season finale goes for a high concept, Star Trek-feel, but the execution left a lot to be desired. Instead of being emotional, revelatory, or action-packed, the mid-season finale feels like a filler episode.
While it technically manages to check all the boxes – Kara is rescued, Nyxly is coming back to National City to cause trouble, Zor-El is coming back for presumably positive shenanigans – much of the episode is a played out drag. Not even starting en media res with the promise of doom for all the Super Friends could jump-start this one, considering how quickly it became clear it simply wasn’t true.
If at first Alex’s segment seemed action-packed in the extreme, a plot with big “That Escalated Quickly” energy, it was short-lived. By the end of Lena’s portion of the plot,...

Kara Danvers and the Super Friends have been through a lot at this point
Originally published March 31; updated to reflect recent plot developments.
The sixth and final season of “Supergirl” just hit the mid-point and, let’s get honest: Kara Danvers and the Super Friends have been through the wringer many times over at this point. The mid-season finale literally saw most of the super friends experience their deepest fears, thanks to a loose Phantom. It was…rough, to say the least.
Can we finally get them into therapy?
They’ve had a therapist within reach for awhile now: Kelly Olsen (James’ sister), the psychologist specializing in trauma who is currently dating Alex Danvers. And, according to series star Azie Tesfai, who has played Kelly since Season 3, the “Supergirl” cast talks fairly often about this, and like to imagine what an actual Super Friends group therapy session would look like.

We’re getting the first look at Supergirl‘s Kelly Olsen, played by Azie Tesfai, as she takes on the mantle of Guardian in the second half of the season.
There have been hints that Kelly would take over the shield over fora her brother, James Olsen, played by Mehcad Brooks, who exited the series in Season 5. She was seen briefly wielding the weapon during “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” It now comes to fruition in episode 612 titled “Blind Spots.” The episode was co-written by Tesfai and co-producer J. Holtham, and addresses racial inequality. David Ramsey directed the episode and will also appear as John Diggle. The episode will air on September 21.
Here’s the official photo:

The episode highlights what she considers to be the “greatest honor of my career”
Chyler Leigh made her directorial debut on “Supergirl” this week, marking what she considers the “greatest honor of my career so far.” Of course, it was a bit different than when her co-stars have directed in the past. Where Melissa Benoist and David Harewood have pulled double duty, acting and directing in their episodes, Leigh only had to focus on directing — but she got to direct her younger self.
Ok, technically it wasn’t a younger version of Chyler Leigh, it was a young version of Alex Danvers, played by Olivia Nikkanen. But at this point, the two actresses could be one and the same. In fact, Leigh notes that in directing Nikkanen – along with her on-screen sister Izabela Vidovic – she really didn’t have to give many notes at all because the younger actresses had...

Jessica Queller knows exactly what she’d like to see
As “Supergirl” nears the halfway point of its sixth and final season, fans are preparing to officially say goodbye to their favorite characters. But some are still holding out some hopes for any spin-off series — including “Supergirl” showrunner Jessica Queller.
In a conversation with TheWrap, co-showrunner Robert Rovner said there are no conversations regarding a spin-off show happening so far — but that doesn’t mean they aren’t open to it. “I wish!” Queller said with a laugh. “Call the bosses!”
And, if the call gets made, Queller knows exactly who she’d like to see in a spin-off. “I’m really attached to the Midvale girls, to the flashback episodes [with] young Kara and young Alex and young Cat Grant. I think that would be a great spin-off,” she said.

After the season premiere of “Supergirl” sent Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) to the Phantom Zone, things have been a bit hectic for the Super Friends back in National City. While they desperately try to bring her back, Martian Manhunter (David Harewood), Sentinel (Chyler Leigh), Brainy (Jesse Rath) and Dreamer (Nicole Maines) have taken over hero duties, with Dreamer pulling double time, also covering for Kara at CatCo as just regular Nia Nal.
It’s a stressful time, and things may not be getting better any time soon — particularly for Nia. In ranking the Super Friends based on how badly they need therapy, Azie Tesfai, who plays Kelly Olsen on “Supergirl,” put Nia in the top three, only behind Kara and Lena (Katie McGrath), citing her reasoning as Nia having a lot going on in the final season of “Supergirl.” At that, Nicole Maines isn’t all that surprised.

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 1
Supergirl is back for one last season, and they’re making it count. Kara and friends returned to finish out last season’s cliffhangers, including Brainy fighting for his life, Lex superpowering himself thanks to Leviathan, and Andrea Rojas’s life in shambles.
“Rebirth” packs just about every kind of punch, giving us the joy of seeing Kara and Lena reunited, the satisfaction of Lena clocking her brother, and the glee of an immortal Lex taking on a fully powered team of Superfriends, now with 100% more M’Gann, plus a suited and booted Alex Danvers. It’s impressive how much this hour of television manages to give so much of what we want, without any of the downsides of fan service. The writers knew, for example, that the anti-life weapon had to crap out on the Superfriends the first time they tried it,...

“Supergirl” is ready to lay it all on the line one more time. In the trailer for the final season of the superhero series, The CW is showing fans exactly what the titular Kryptonian is dealing with.
When we last saw Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) and the Super Friends, they had managed to stop Leviathan, with Braniac 5 (Jesse Rath) seemingly sacrificing himself in the process. As it turns out, that was all part of Lex Luthor’s (Jon Cryer) master plan: take over Obsidian North, get Leviathan out of the way with the help of Brainy — thereby driving a wedge into the Super Friends — and as always, take over the world.
The good news is, Brainy seems to have survived. The bad news is, Lex Luthor is now somehow immortal, thanks to some help from his mother. And this time, his plan isn’t just to wipe out Supergirl. “Once I fix this planet,...

In today’s TV news roundup, The CW announced the premiere date for the sixth and final season of “Supergirl,” and Netflix revealed a teaser for the second part of “Lupin.”
Dates
The CW announced that “Supergirl” will premiere the first part of its sixth and final season on March 30 at 9 p.m. In that time slot now is “Superman and Lois,” which will go on a brief hiatus due to a Covid-related production interruption earlier this season when “Supergirl” begins. The recently-renewed “Superman and Lois” will return on May 18 at 9 p.m., with “Supergirl” slated to complete its final season later this summer. The action-adventure drama series follows the DC character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), who balances her work as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media with her work as Supergirl, keeping National City and the Earth safe from sinister threats. The CW has finally announced when Supergirl will return for its sixth -- and final -- season.
The hit drama series will premiere Tuesday, March 30, in the 9/8c slot.
Superman & Lois will go on a hiatus to accommodate Supergirl, with its spring finale now set for March 23.
The new superhero drama will then resume Tuesday, May 18, after Supergirl airs its first batch of final season episodes.
Supergirl will then return in the summer, but the network has yet to schedule a return date.
The news is surprising, largely because the network could have probably got some mileage by promoting a night of Supergirl as well as its spinoff.
But this is no typical TV season, and the Covid-19 pandemic continues to cause problems for the networks as they try to keep original content flowing.
Little is known about Supergirl's sixth season, beyond the official logline from The CW.

Social media is full of reactions from those who don’t want to say goodbye to the Girl of Steel, and a few of the cast have also released statements in response to the news.

Another member of The CW's Arrowverse will be flying into the sunset next year. Deadline reports that the Supergirl TV series will end with its upcoming sixth season. Despite production delays and an early 2021 premiere, season six is expected to have 20 episodes.
Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Julie Gonzolo, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, and Staz Nair. Based on the DC Comics character, the series centers on Kara Zor-El (Benoist), the cousin of Kal-El, i.e. Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). To remain safe from Krypton’s destruction, Kara grew up on Earth as a human named Kara Danvers. For years, she kept her powers a secret. All good things must come to an end, and that includes Supergirl. The WB TV show, which began life on CBS before moving to The CW in its second season, will be ending with the upcoming sixth season. The CW and producers Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions made the announcement today ahead of the production start date for Season 6. According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, “between the delays and Supergirl’s downward ratings trajectory, I hear the producers, the studio, the network and Benoist came to a decision that it was better to end the show with a longer final season.”
“To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement,” said series star Melissa Benoist in a statement on Instagram. “Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless. She...

It's the end of the line for another superhero drama on The CW!
Supergirl is coming to a conclusion with its upcoming sixth season.
20 episodes have been ordered by the network, and it will conclude Kara's journey.
Melissa Benoist stars as Supergirl on the hit drama series, leading a cast that includes Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Andrea Brooks, Azie Tesfai, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair, and David Harewood.
The end date announcement is somewhat surprising, especially when you consider that Arrow survived until its eighth season, and represented the first conclusion for the network's Arrowverse.
Still, Supergirl Season 5 lost considerable steam in the ratings, dipping around 840,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating in the all-important 18-49 demo.
The series has been steadily declining ever since it left CBS after its first season, which averaged 7.7 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating.

“Supergirl” is officially hanging up her cape.
In a joint decision, the CW and producers Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions have announced that the upcoming sixth season of “Supergirl” will be its last.
Production on the “Supergirl” curtain call is set to begin later this month, and the writers have already started developing storylines for the final 20 episodes, according to sources. The network is aiming to premiere the sixth and final season sometime in 2021.
News of “Supergirl”‘s demise also comes almost exactly four months after the season 5 finale. The series originally debuted on CBS back in Oct. 2015, before moving to CW from season 2 onward.
The most recent season continued to star Melissa Benoist as the titular heroine, who also happens to be Superman’s cousin. She addressed the show’s end via social media.

“Supergirl” will conclude with its upcoming sixth season, The CW announced Tuesday.
The broadcast network says that the creative team behind the Melissa Benoist-led superhero series — which will be the first “Arrowverse” series to come to an end since “Arrow” itself did last spring — “has started developing the storylines for the final 20 episodes” and Season 6 will begin production later this month.
“Supergirl” premiered in October 2015 on CBS before moving over to The CW for its second season the following fall. The CW plans to premiere the sixth and final season, which was pushed from the fall schedule due to Covid-related production delays, sometime in 2021.
