Paramount Network today announced that Yellowstone, TV’s #1 show, has started production.
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, the megahit series is currently filming in Montana.
We got first wind of this exciting news when we saw some casting notices for actors in the area, but now, shooting is underway.
Halleluja.
As previously announced, the series is slated to return in November.
Given the status of the series, which was originally slated for a sixth and seventh season before behind-the-scenes drama spiraled out of control, we don't really know what to expect at this point.
We do know that Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States.
Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation,...

It’s the beginning of the end for “Yellowstone,” as production has now begun on the final episodes of the megahit series.
The show is once again shooting in Montana on the second half of its fifth season. The first half, which consisted of eight episodes, originally aired between November 2022 and January 2023. The second and final installment, which will consist of six episodes, is slated to debut on Paramount Network in November.
As was previously reported, production on the final episodes of the series was delayed in 2023 due to the dual writers’ and actors’ strikes that shut down most of Hollywood. It was also previously reported that “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner would be exiting the series in Season 5, reportedly over his desire to focus on the epic Western feature “Horizon,” which would have seriously impacted his availability to film “Yellowstone.” The first part of the film is scheduled to be...

Production is underway in Montana on the second half of the fifth and final season of Yellowstone, Paramount Network said today. As previously announced, the series, which has been on hiatus since January 2023, is slated to return for the final episodes in November.
Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park.
Kevin Costner, who departed the series last year in the starring role of John Dutton, is in Cannes right now where his film Horizon: An American Saga, world premiered. He is currently filming Chapter 3 of Horizon. At a Cannes press conference, Costner said he had taken a break to go to Cannes and is heading back to continue filming.

“It’s very, very prideful and it was very special for all of us making it,” reflects Damian Marcano on the experience of directing three episodes of “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.” As a child growing up in Trinidad, he and his grandfather would watch “The Lone Ranger” together and, when approached about joining the Paramount+ series, he was “very shocked to find out that he was actually the inspiration for what I had watched portrayed by a white actor,” referring to the influence of the real-life Bass Reeves (David Oyelowo) on American pop culture. Reeves was one of the first Black U.S. Deputy Marshals, and the director is glad for the opportunity not only to “retell these stories with the correct lens,” but also to show “a character of this skin color, an African man, formerly enslaved man” who “gets to do the ass-kicking.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Yellowstone is saddling up for its final ride.
Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Network megahit will resume production on its final episodes in the late spring of 2024. Yellowstone, earlier this month, had set a premiere date of November 2024 for the second half of its fifth and final season, which last aired its midseason finale Jan. 6, 2023, and will usher in the end of the series.
The final episodes close the book on the current Dutton family saga. After ending on a game-changing cliffhanger involving Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), sister Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner), the second half of the season had initially been slated for this fall. But production was first delayed by a scheduling dispute over Costner’s status with the show and then by the dual writers and actors strikes, which brought about a halt of scripted productions.

The final installment of Yellowstone will begin filming in late spring, 2024. This is a logical start of production target given the fact that the popular series from Taylor Sheridan shoots largely outdoors in Utah and would need to wait for the winter to be over.
To accomodate a spring return to production on the second half of Season 5, Paramount Network recently slated it for a November 2024 premiere. There is no target production start date yet 2024, the contemporary Yellowstone spinoff series whose debut is set to follow the conclusion of the mothership series.
While everything is possible, for now there are no plans for Yellowstone star Kevin Costner to return for the series’ final chapter, we hear. As Deadline reported exclusively, his exit was triggered by a dispute over the extent of his availability in Season 5.
The Yellowstone franchise and the entire Taylor Sheridan slate is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios.

Plot: The untold story of the most legendary lawman in the Old West, Bass Reeves. The eight-episode original series follows the journey of Reeves and his rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.
Review: Bass Reeves is not nearly as recognizable of a name as it should be. While it was reported earlier that Paramount+ original content giant Taylor Sheridan will not be as closely involved with the development of Sicario 3, he definitely has his dance card filling up with more Yellowstone-related projects. The last season of his acclaimed series, which has been immensely popular with audiences, has been marred by behind-the-scenes difficulties with its iconic leading man, Kevin Costner. The last season’s production has also fallen in line with a bevy of other projects that have been delayed with the dual strikes from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

“Yellowstone” will come to an end in a year, as Paramount Network has set a November 2024 premiere date for the final episodes of Season 5 that will mark the conclusion of the blockbuster Taylor Sheridan series.
But what is dead may never die — Paramount Network also ordered up two additional spin-offs, “1944” and “2024.” Plot details are under wraps, but the latter spin-off could very well be the new “Yellowstone” series in the works that may star Matthew McConaughey.
All “Yellowstone” series are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.
The fifth and final season of “Yellowstone” was originally scheduled to air this year, but production schedules were shifted due to the strikes and other hurdles. The first half of the season started airing in November 2022 and concluded in January, and by that point the second half of the season was aiming to air in the fall of 2023.

The current iteration of Yellowstone has a timeline for its final episodes — but two more spinoffs of the Paramount Network hit are in the offing.
The second half of Yellowstone’s fifth season, which will close the book on the current Dutton family saga, is set to premiere in November 2024. The final episodes had been slated for late this year, but the writers and actors strikes meant an end to production.
The two spinoffs in the works are a present-day story with the working title of 2024 and another prequel, 1944, that will follow in the footsteps of 1883 and 1923. As with the previous series, the two spinoffs will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

Additionally, the Yellowstone universe is expanding with another prequel, 1944 (working title). The creator of Lawmen: Bass Reeves is setting the record straight about whether the show is a spinoff of 1883.
When the show was initially ordered, it was billed by Paramount+ as a spinoff of the first Yellowstone prequel.
Chad Feehan, the creator and showrunner of the highly-anticipated new drama, is opening up about what changed to TV Line.
Making the show a spinoff of the critically-lauded 1883 "was an idea we briefly talked about," Feehan explained to the outlet.
"But for me, once I learned some of the things I didn't know about Bass' life, and decided where we wanted to start the story and where we wanted to end the story, it preceded 1883," he added.
In a separate interview with TV Insider, Feehan said the idea to make it a spinoff was talked about before he was hired.

“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” is the beginning of a new television franchise and a dramatization of one of the most fabled, as the title would suggest, lawmen of all time and one of the first Black U.S. Marshals. He was also supposedly the basis for The Lone Ranger, something that is very clear from the brand-new trailer for the series, which you can watch above.
David Oyelowo plays Reeves, who in the trailer tells a child who asks if he’s a lawman or an outlaw that he’s “a bit of both.” Dennis Quaid is a Deputy U.S. Marshal who also seems to be a mentor. And Forrest Goodluck plays Billy Crow, Reeves’ sidekick and a very Tonto-seeming character. (Even the new poster that was released seems to evoke the spirit of The Lone Ranger’s horse Silver.) Barry Pepper, Demi Singleton, Garrett Hedlund, Donald Sutherland, Dale Dickey and Shea Whigham also star.

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 8
Yellowstone season 5 can best, and favorably, be described as purposeful or deliberate. There have been a myriad of smaller character moments to build up an already impressive catalog of believable characters. There has been a spitoon filled to the brim with gobs of cowboy wisdom – reminding the show’s millions of viewers what the important things are in life according to co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan. Most importantly, in this entire time, it has naturally been building to something. Slowly building, but building none-the-less.
In short, Sheridan, this entire season, has been playing the long game.
Case in point, we once again begin this episode, “A Knife and No Coin” thirty years ago, as we rejoin the series of flashbacks of Young John (Josh Lucas). It has been mentioned time and time again that Lucas has done a tremendous job this season...

As Beth Dutton likes to say, “You are the trailer park. I am the tornado.”
She is the resident badass at the heart of Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone.” Her anger is controlled and deliberate; so is her calculating mind. She can kiss her father goodbye and financially destroy a company or ruin someone’s life. She’s a warrior in designer pumps. But I’m gonna say it: “Yellowstone” may have a Beth Dutton problem.
Beth’s been through a lot. She’s been beaten, threatened with sexual assault, blown up, and thanks to her half-brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) underwent forced sterilization as a teenager. Her Idgaf attitude is refreshing; in a television landscape where women are often viewed as “likable” or “unlikable,” Beth lives and breathes for herself, her father John (Kevin Costner), and her husband Rip (Cole Hauser). Everyone else can go to hell.
However, Beth the antihero...

Episode: “One Hundred Years is Nothing”
Plot: John Dutton is sworn in as Governor of Montana. As John settles into the power of his new office, he makes a bold move to protect the Yellowstone Ranch from his opponents.
Review: After the massive cliffhanger to the third season that left the fates of much of the Dutton clan up in the air, the fourth season of Yellowstone ended on a high note with Rip and Beth getting married and John Dutton declaring his candidacy for Governor of Montana. As the fifth season begins, the Dutton era begins as John takes the oath of office and the legacy of his ranch and his family is seemingly secured. But, now the question is whether or not John Dutton will make it through his four-year term unscathed. With a pulse-pounding two-hour premiere, Yellowstone is back with more wrangling, backstabbing, political machinations, and more.

“It was one of those things where it took me about 10 minutes to register,” admits Christina Voros about learning she had earned first first career Emmy nomination for her cinematography on the limited series “1883.” The Paramount+ limited series about a family’s journey to Montana post-Civil War is a prequel to the hit drama “Yellowstone,” on which Voros has worked as both cinematographer and director. Check out our exclusive video interview Voros above.
One of Voros’ fellow nominees is “1883” director and cinematographer Ben Richardson. Voros credits the entire “1883” production team with helping her and Richardson, who shared directing duties with the show’s creator Taylor Sheridan, bring the project to life. “I think it’s a testament, more than it is even to us, to our crew,” she argues. “It’s the same team of people that was helping both of us create the look the achieve...

“The landscape is its own character,” says 1883 cinematographer Christina Alexandra Voros. It’s not an unusual declaration for an epic outdoor adventure, until Voros adds, “And that character was the biggest diva on the show.” A prequel to Paramount+’s popular Yellowstone series, 1883 subjected its crew to both a stifling Texas summer and a frigid Montana winter to trace the Dutton clan’s westward journey via wagon train. “It was punishing,” said Voros. “It was either raining, windy or just plain freezing, or it was 500 background people in downtown Ft. Worth sweltering under the August sun in wool clothing.” Braving […]

There are 136 submissions on the 2022 Emmys ballot for Best Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Directing, which will yield six nominations. As a reminder, last year’s winner was “The Queen’s Gambit” (Scott Frank), while the other nominees were “Hamilton” (Thomas Kail), “Mare of Easttown” (Craig Zobel), “Wandavision” (Matt Shakman), “The Underground Railroad” (Barry Jenkins) and two episodes of “I May Destroy You” (Sam Miller for “Eyes Eyes Eyes Eyes” and Miller and Michaela Coel for “Ego Death”).
For six of the last eight years, the Best Limited/Movie Directing category has rewarded directors who helmed the entirety of their limited series. That could work in favor of Mike White, who directed all six episodes of “The White Lotus,” which should have enough overall support to be competitive in the series category. Miniseries that also only submitted their sole director for the whole series, per the Emmy ruling, include “Gaslit” for Matt Ross,...

Taylor Sheridan’s modern-day Western “Yellowstone” tells an epic story about characters trying to hold on to values and a way of life that are swiftly transforming in a constantly changing world. The style of filmmaking that the show has adopted serves as a perfect cinematic corollary for its themes. Thoughtful and precise in both its narrative and visual construction, “Yellowstone” has more in common with the classic Hollywood genre films of John Ford, George Stevens, and Clint Eastwood than it does with most contemporary television series.
According to director of photography Christina Alexandra Voros, that is entirely intentional. “Taylor’s mantra is that we’re not making a TV show, we’re making a 10-hour movie, and that extends to every facet of how the show is made,” she told IndieWire. “There’s not a pattern. The pattern is how do you make the best show possible, and that...

In an age of television where nothing is more attractive to networks than established I.P., it’s not enough to build a solidly performing drama on a humble plot of land. It’s all about the hydra-headed franchise these days, with even a series like “Law & Order” clawing back its territory following a decade of austerity measures. So it was only a matter of time before “Yellowstone,” Paramount Network’s superlatively popular nouveau Western, began manifest destiny.
The first such expansion comes in the form of “1883,” a far-flung prequel series focused on the forebears of John Dutton (Kevin Costner), the beleaguered cattle rancher at the center of “Yellowstone.” Decades before defending their massive Montana ranch from rapacious developers, they were settlers hoping for just enough luck and fortitude to survive the long journey west. The titular time period means hot-streak creator Taylor Sheridan going from a neo-Western to a proto-Western,...
