It was the grandfather of Ntr Jr, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, the Telugu superstar of his time and the original Ntr, who became the first non-Congress chief minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1983, riding on the powerful slogan of Telugu Vari Atma Gauravam (or Telugu people’s self-respect). He was the supreme leader of the Telugu Desam Party, which is now helmed by his son-in-law, Chandrababu Naidu.
The ‘Naato Naato’ win was a booster dose for this ‘self-respect’, which Ntr (the original) kept drumming home during his historic Chaitanya Ratham marathon mass contact movement across the state, which saw him covering 75,000 km on his remodelled Chevrolet van.
And guess who accompanied him throughout this criss-crossing of the then unified Andhra Pradesh? It was Ntr Jr’s father, Nandamuri Harikrishna, an actor who started his career playing the baby Lord Krishna in Ntr’s 1967 mythological classic drama, ‘Krishnavataram’. For actress Sunny Leone, it was an uphill task to work in the Vishnu Manchu-starrer film ‘Ginna’. In addition to the language being unfamiliar to her, she essays a deaf and mute woman in the film. The actress put in a lot of hard work to lend authenticity to her part in the film and not make it look like a caricaturist depiction of disabilities on screen.
The empathic portrayal of the character was of prime importance for Sunny. She trained in sign languages for a few weeks with an acting coach, before the film’s shoot began.
Revealing her process, Sunny said, “My coach and I sat and storyboarded the character’s graph. Along with the director and writer, we tried to understand the backstory. Then the real challenge of bringing a true-to-reality portrayal on screen. My coach helped me by providing several reading materials and videos for my understanding.

Movie Review | Ginna: With Vishnu Manchu’s unmatchable comic timing Ginna is praiseworthy, hilarious
The film revolves around Ginna (Manchu Vishnu), who runs a tent house business in Chittoor district. He is a dreamer and is not very smart either. Despite his on-job shenanigans and capacity for disasters, Ginna is essentially a good person, but his greed always gets the better of him.
There is another track in the film. Ginna has two best childhood friends – Swathi (Payal), who is in love with him, and Renuka (Sunny), who left India but returns after 15 long years to reconnect with her friends.
Now, Ginna, who is down in financial dumps, makes a plan to exploit his US-returned friend Renuka, who just happens to harbour a secret. And soon, strange things begin to emerge, which forces Ginna to investigate Renuka’s scary past. What does Ginna learn in the process forms the crux of the story.
