When you have to shoot a film in 29 days, across four seasons, and with the occasional surprise blizzard at 8,000 feet, it’s easier to do it yourself. Robin Wright reached that conclusion with her directorial debut, “Land,” in which she originally had no intention to star. It turned out that the list of actresses who could carry the film, secure the financing, skin game, and make themselves available across many months dwindled to a list of one: Her.
“It was gutsy,” said producer Allyn Stewart (“Sully”). “It wasn’t playing that romantic comedy. It was a taxing, intense, character.”
Wright, of course, is familiar with intense characters after six seasons as the formidable Claire Underwood in “House of Cards.” She also directed herself in 10 of those episodes. “I wasn’t looking to get some sleep, evidently,” she said. “It was so much fun to direct that show, learning while I was doing it.

20 best TV politicians ranked, including ‘The West Wing,’ ‘Veep,’ ‘House of Cards’ and more [Photos]
Another election year has rolled around, and it’s time again to muck our way through mudslinging to hopefully choose the right candidate to represent our views and our needs.
Throughout history, in our own country as well as the rest of the year, there have been great leaders who have left a mark and are remembered for accomplishments that helped their society to progress. However, there are also leaders who, in an effort to reach their own power-hungry goals, left their people to fend for themselves, often leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. On television, we have seen both types of government heads: President Bartlet, Lieutenant Governor DuBois, Secretary of State (later President) McCord, all of whom are flawed, but are trusted public servants with the best interest of the people at heart.

Robin Wright (“House of Cards”) just received her sixth and final Best Drama Actress Emmy nomination for playing First Lady-turned-President Claire Underwood on Netflix’s political thriller. That number puts her in good company indeed, as only seven actresses have earned six or more bids in this category for the same show, the last being Mariska Hargitay (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) exactly 10 years ago. Hargitay would go to earn eight consecutive noms (2004-11), winning on her third bid.
Only one other person earned more Best Drama Actress nominations than Hargitay throughout her show’s run: Angela Lansbury, who received a record 12 for “Murder, She Wrote” (1985-96). Of course, Lansbury infamously never won an Emmy Award, making her one of the industry’s biggest also-rans. Even though Wright lost her first five nominations (2013-17), she won’t come anywhere near Lansbury’s record as “House of Cards” ended last year.

Michael Kelly’s Doug Stamper was the steel-strong thread of integrity through six seasons of House of Cards. While the show’s leads Frank and Claire Underwood stopped at nothing in their Machiavellian scheming, Doug was driven only by his loyalty to Frank.
And although Kelly has three times been Emmy-nominated for the role, it is in this sixth and final season that he shines brightest of all. While Kevin Spacey’s departure from the show almost robbed House of Cards of a proper ending, the rewrites that emerged following that debacle ultimately gave Doug his well-earned pivotal bow. In a finale scene so intense it took some 15 hours to shoot, Doug both confessed to murdering Frank and was stabbed to death by Robin Wright’s Claire. He even got to break the fourth wall in that episode—a move previously reserved only for Frank and Claire. Thus, Doug emerged...

The cover story on Tony Hale and Sophie Turner first appeared in the Race Begins issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.
It was a problem that might have challenged even Michael Kelly’s ruthless political fixer Doug Stamper.
Production had begun on the sixth season of “House of Cards” when lead actor Kevin Spacey was fired following multiple accusations of sexual misconduct (which he has denied). Shooting was halted as the writers devised a way to re-center the show on Claire Underwood, the wife of Spacey’s craven pol Frank Underwood — and a way to wrap up the acclaimed drama in an eight-episode season (instead of the usual 13).
“The writers were tasked with that duty for two months,” Kelly said. “The fact that they were even able to do it blew me away.” It even got so hectic, he added, “toward the end we were doing it as we went along.

By the standards of long-running series, “Game of Thrones” maps onto its decade unusually well. This is a very small thing. That the fantasy show, which ran with a sort of mathematically pleasing symmetry from 2011 to 2019, is more authentically of the 2010s than, say, “Mad Men” (2007-2015) or “Killing Eve” (2018-the future) is of interest only to media scholars or to those who take pleasure in number games.
But it’s also not nothing. That “Thrones” so thoroughly dominated effectively an entire one of the ten-year spans by which we measure history feels proper. As it approaches its final episode, to air May 19, the show is evincing reactions that both prove the hold it has over viewers over its decade run, and that do something more. The general consensus on the series’ endgame — that its portrayal of putative heroine Daenerys slipping into the behavior of a thuggish war criminal is...

Robin Wright on Her Feature-Directing Debut and ‘Flying the Nest’ After ‘House of Cards’ (Exclusive)
Robin Wright cut her directing teeth on “House of Cards,” which she describes as “an opportunity to have film school lessons on set each day.” But now, she tells Variety, “I’m flying the nest.”
The actress was looking for her first feature to helm since the final year of the landmark Netflix series. She will head into the wilderness for “Land,” a drama about life off the grid that she said caught her eye and her heart. Production starts this summer in British Columbia, where it will span all four seasons of the year.
Wright was won over by the screenplay from Jesse Chatham and Golden Globe nominee Liz Hannah, but was not supposed to be in front of the camera. “Acting in it wasn’t the initial plan,” she said. “It was due to other people not being available and the clock was ticking. We were losing time.

Robin Wright, a Globe Globe winner for her turn as the First Lady-turned-President in Netflix's House of Cards, is set to make her feature-length directorial debut.
In Land, Wright, who has recently appeared in Wonder Woman and Blade Runner 2049, will direct herself as Edee Mathis, a lawyer consumed by grief who resolves to remove herself completely from life as she has known it and disappear. Christopher Plummer Earns Golden Globe Nomination for Kevin Spacey 'All the Money in the World' Role
Christopher Plummer earned a Golden Globe nomination for Ridley Scott's Getty family biopic, All the Money in the World.
The nomination comes as a bit of a surprise considering the actor stepped into the role of J. Paul Getty only last month, after Kevin Spacey was removed from the film.
Initial allegations of sexual misconduct were leveraged against Spacey by Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp in October. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Rapp claimed that Spacey came on to him in 1986, when he was just 14 years old. Since then, eight current and former House of Cards employees have come forward claiming that Spacey created a "toxic" work environment on set. He has also been accused of sexual misconduct and assault by several other men. Through his lawyer, Spacey has denied all these allegations.

It seems the First Lady is ready to take office.
Bringing an end to a month-long spiel of rumors and conflicting reports, the sixth and final season of House of Cards will indeed resume production in 2018 – sans Kevin Spacey. The shamed Frank Underwood actor had been shooting scenes for the eight-part finale, though Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos has now confirmed what many had already assumed to be the only course of action: Spacey has been fired from House of Cards, and in his stead, Claire Underwood (Wonder Woman‘s Robin Wright) has been elected as the show’s lead character.
Poised to “bring closure to fans,” details of season six’s actual storyline are being kept under lock and key for now. Production will resume early next year though, which tells us that House of Cards will ultimately fold at the beginning of 2019 – assuming Netflix honors tradition and launches its...

Netflix’s House of Cards has been left in a state of disarray amid the damning allegations leveled against Kevin Spacey.
The Frank Underwood actor was thrust into the eye of a ferocious media storm late last month when Star Trek Discovery‘s Anthony Rapp accused Spacey, then 26, of making a sexual advance toward him when he was only 14. Soon after that, the floodgates opened, leaving Netflix with little choice but to formally dismiss Kevin Spacey from the House of Cards camp.
His absence seemingly leaves the door open for multiple spinoffs – spinoffs that could potentially shift the spotlight over to Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) and/or Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) – but a new update from the streaming service has revealed that for now, the focus is still very much on season 6, with production set to resume next month, on December 8th.

As the Kevin Spacey saga continues to fester, a number of crew members behind House of Cards have now come forward to BuzzFeed with allegations that Spacey’s inappropriate, “predatory” behavior was well known among the show’s directors and producers.
The report, which was first published on Monday, alleges that Spacey developed a reputation for sexual misconduct, and frequently abused his power on the Netflix flagship to prey on younger men. And at least based on these new statements, key members of the House of Cards team were seemingly complicit in the cover-up, as one anonymous crew member told BuzzFeed:
They knew about his behavior toward younger men specifically on set. They were all watching…and they see behavior on camera and off camera that was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Unprofessional for a set, to be honest.

Losing a great show is hard, no matter the circumstances. However with hardship comes the opportunity for a great show to become one of the greatest television shows of all time. I think Kevin James can elevate “House of Cards” to a globally adored franchise like “Game of Thrones” and make the entire world focus on one of the most important Netflix Original series there is.

Netflix is parting ways with Kevin Spacey.
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey," a spokesperson for the network told Et in a statement on Friday. "We will continue to work with [House of Cards' production company Media Rights Capital] during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show."
"We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey."
The news comes as producers were supposedly in crisis mode after allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against Spacey arose last week and were supposedly considering killing off the actor's character to focus on Robin Wright's Claire Underwood in the upcoming sixth and final season of the drama, Variety reports.

Before she was Jenny Curran or Claire Underwood, Robin Wright was Buttercup. However, despite the iconic role, the star isn't looking for a reprise. As the Blade Runner 2049 actress candidly dished to E! News, the team behind The Princess Bride contemplated a sequel to the 1987 fantasy film at one point. "I think they entertained the idea for a minute," she recalled. However, it doesn't sound like Wright or her colleagues were fond of the idea. "We thought, 'Don't ruin it. Please don't ruin it.'" While a second installment still remains to be seen 30 years to the day later, the Golden Globe winner has fond memories of one of the most memorable...

Jerry Seinfeld's stand-up special Jerry Before Seinfeld launched earlier this week, so in honor of that here's yet another new commercial from Netflix that plays off their ad campaign "Netflix Is A Joke." Ascending queens Elizabeth (“The Crown”) and Victoria (“Victoria”) face off in the Emmy race for Series Original Dramatic Score, while old Hollywood (“Feud: Bette and Joan”) counters Russian classicism (“Fargo”) for Limited Series, Movie, or Special Dramatic Score.
Meanwhile, political (“House of Cards,” Taboo”) and survival overtones (“Planet Earth II” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events”) clash in the Series category, as well as war (“Five Came Back,” “The White Helmets,” “Suite Française”) and culture (“O.J.: Made in America”) in the other category.
Not surprisingly, the odds are with Rupert Gregson-Williams (“The Crown”) and last year’s “Mr. Robot” winner, Mac Quayle (“Feud”), for their respective retro scores. While Williams reached for orchestral nobility, Quayle went for more orchestral glam.
“The Crown” — “Hyde Park Corner” (Rupert Gregson-Williams)
The score for showrunner Peter Morgan’s drama about the rise of Elizabeth II (nominated Claire Foy) was all about restraint, given her sense of calm.

This year, there are over 20,000 people who get to select the nominees and winners of the Emmys, and hundreds of shows are vying for their attention. In 2016, we were struck by some of the creativity that studios and networks used in pushing out the word about various shows.
Things seemed more subdued on a street level in 2017, though Emmy campaign expert Rich Licata told IndieWire that the networks did seem plenty active when it came to advertising buys.

“A lot of it unfortunately has turned into white noise,” Licata said, “because there were so many programs and so many networks that I don’t know how a responsible voter can really focus and say, ‘Ok, I’m going to watch all this.'”

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s political drama “House of Cards,” you know that Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) are the most calculated power couple in politics. The technical term is “breaking the fourth wall,” and has been an intimacy only enjoyed by Spacey and his viewer until now. Also Read: 33 Major 'House of Cards' Characters,...
