Backstreet Boys, "In a World Like This" (K-bahn, BMG)
Backstreet's back, all right!
Not all right, actually.
The Backstreet Boys managed to bring fifth member Kevin Richardson back into the fold for an eighth album and a world tour to celebrate 20 years of making music. "In a World Like This" is also the first to come out from under their own label, K-bahn, after parting with longtime partner, the now defunct Jive Records.
The boys collaborate mostly with producers Martin Terefe and Morgan Taylor Reid on the 12-track album that lacks the immediate hooks that their earlier hits had. Bsb's album is a grown-up mix of tunes talking about love and commitment, but the songs bleed into each other despite not being similar. The group is too concerned to show us how they've matured to remember that it's sexy vibes that sell.
"Breathe," "Feels Like Home," "Permanent Stain" and "Make Believe" are average,...

The nominees for the 2012 Latin Grammy awards are in, and Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra tops the list with six nods.
Guerra scored two of the 10 "Best Song" nominations for his "Azul Sabina" and "En El Cielo No Hay Hospital." The Dominican singer’s unique blend of merengue, bolero, bachata and rock has already earned him 12 Latin Grammys.
The list of nominees released Tuesday by the Latin Recording Academy includes both established musical titans such as Cuban jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, and relative newcomers, including Afro-Colombian hip hop group Choc Quib Town.
Brazil's Caetano Veloso, who first came to prominence in the 1960s playing a samba-infused style of rock known as Tropicalia, is up for four awards. Caetano will also be honored as the "2012 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year."
The Latin Grammys are scheduled for Nov. 15 in Las Vegas and will be televised by Univision.

Humperdinck will be hoping to emulate British acts such as Bucks Fizz and Sandie Shaw who won the continental singing contest in the past but voters from Europe have been less than kind to British acts in recent years. Performers from East European nations have dominated the event for the last decade although Norway and Germany temporarily bucked that trend with a surprise wins in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Acts from 25 other nations...

Charlotte Church has announced that she will release her second pop album later this year. Back To Scratch, the follow-up to 2005's Tissues And Issues, will be released in the UK on November 1. The 14-track set has been produced by Martin Terefe, whose previous credits include James Morrison, KT Tunstall and Jason Mraz, and Sacha Skarbeck, who notably co-wrote six tracks on James Blunt's Back To Bedlam LP. It was partly written in Nashville with country songwriters Luke Laird and Patrick Davis, while Welsh singer-songwriter Jonathan Powell and Irish acoustic duo New Druids have also contributed. When Train agreed to be interviewed for the Huffington Post's Entertainment page, no one could predict that the conference would be conducted over the course of thousands of miles from scores of hotel rooms. Vocalist Pat Monahan would become intensely ill, guitarist Jimmy Stafford would be fused to his cell, unable to escape his tenacious inquisitor, and drummer Scott Underwood would go Mia for hours, nay, days...nay, just about an hour, actually. It was the perfect start for an awesome interview. Mike Ragogna: After taking years off, Train regroups and records its new album Save Me, San Francisco in London's Kensaltown Studios with producer Martin Terefe. What was it like tracking with him? Jimmy Stafford: It was great working with Martin. It was fun working with a different producer 'cause we'd done the last three albums with the same crew. So, the...
