Amazon MGM Studios is adapting Don Winslow’s novella Crime 101. Mark Ruffalo is reportedly in talks to play the lead role. He is set to co-star with Chris Hemsworth and negotiate to star and produce alongside Ben Grayson, his producing partner.
The film will be directed by Bart Layton, who collaborated with Peter Straughan to develop the screenplay. Layton is famously known for his work as a director and writer of the 2018 heist movie American Animals, which starred Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, and Ann Dowd. Pedro Pascal was supposed to star in the film alongside Hemsworth last year, but although he was on board, things did not move forward.
Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, Raw’s Layton and Dimitri Doganis, and Derrin Schlesinger and Shane Salerno all serve as producers. Joely Fisher executive produces for Raw.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the original short story by Winslow has shades of Heat as it follows high-level jewel thefts that are taking place up and down the Pacific Coast, which police have linked to Colombian cartels. Detective Lou Lubesnick has other ideas, and he zeroes in on one perp, a thief looking for a final score.
Bart Layton is directing and wrote the script with contributions from Peter Straughan. Producers include Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, Raw’s Bart Layton and Dimitri Doganis, Derrin Schlesinger, and Shane Salerno. Raw’s Joely Fether will executive produce.

The rising star on transitioning from man to beast for Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes.
When Owen Teague was four years old, he saw Disney’s Beauty And The Beast and wanted to be in it. Not do a voice in it — actually be in it. “My mum was like, ‘Um, okay, sure, but that’s an animation. There are community theatres you can audition for?’” So he started doing community theatre, mostly musicals. Then, in 2005, Peter Jackson’s King Kong arrived. Seven-year-old Owen was bewitched. When his mum explained that King Kong was played by an actual guy in a performance- capture suit, Teague saw his future.
Almost 20 years later, he is that guy. In Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, Teague plays the lead, Noa, a young chimpanzee born nearly 300 years after the events of the last film in the franchise. After a successful audition...

If you're making a list of the greatest film acting debuts of all time, Kate Winslet's unnervingly ecstatic portrayal of Juliet Hulme in Peter Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures" better be at or near the top of the list -- and you should absolutely tether it to co-star Melanie Lynskey's startling debut as Pauline Parker in the same fantastic movie. You can't set the bar any higher than this, and all the two actors have done over the last 30 years is meet or surpass our expectations.
While Lynskey ultimately found her groove as a versatile and rousingly effective character actor, Winslet's career skyrocketed to superstardom in 1997 when she landed the role of Rose in James Cameron's disaster epic "Titanic." Her red-hot romance with Leonardo Di Caprio's dashing Jack granted her cinematic immortality, at which point she was faced with the daunting challenge of living up to mainstream moviegoers' expectations.

A dedicated actor whose self-inflicted preparation process for “Ammonite” included freezing nightly in an isolated shack by the beach, Kate Winslet couldn’t have gone method for “The Regime” if she tried.

True Detective has to be one of the most brilliant anthology mystery thriller shows ever made. Originally created by Nic Pizzolatto, the HBO series told a dark and haunting tale through the brilliant performances by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in its first season. The quality of the series took a nosedive in its second season and the third season while better from Season 2 didn’t really match the expectation that the inaugural season of True Detective set. Now, we are in Season 4 titled Night Country and with a new creative force behind the series, the fans are getting exactly what they want. Mark Ruffalo is calling for an Israel-Hamas ceasefire. At the DGA awards in Beverly Hills on Saturday night he told Deadline the pins on his lapel represented “peace lillies and Artists for Ceasefire”.
Ruffalo said that Artists for Ceasefire is “calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. There are 1,200 Israelis dead and 27,000 Palestinians,” he continued.
“We’ve come to understand this bombing isn’t working, we’re not going to bomb our way to peace, and all we’re saying is, what’s wrong with giving a ceasefire a chance? We have a million refugees on the border of Rafah right now, who are looking at another bombing surge, and we have 400,000 people starving to death right now, without any humanitarian aid being able to get in there. Country star Zach Bryan recruited Western film legend Matthew McConaughey for his “Nine Ball” music video, released on Monday.
The video, directed by Matthew Dillon Cohen, tells the story of a boy whose father is a gambling addict. McConaughey plays a pool shark who brings his young son to the bar while he bets cash against his opponent, played by Scott Shepherd.
In an alternate timeline, Tye Sheridan plays an older version of McConaughey’s son, who grows up to play billiards in the same pool hall as his father. The narratives jump back and forth from each other, depicting the effect of the father’s gambling on the son, and ends with a flashback shot of McConaughey carrying the young boy out of the bar after a bar fight.

Ooh, this is interesting and explains a lot. Mark Ruffalo spoke to Deadline this weekend about “Poor Things” at a recent BAFTA party. He also may have let some premature cats out of the bags. One of Ruffalo’s next projects is an HBO series called “Task” (that title is new too); it shoots in March, and maybe it’s something we may have to retroactively add to our Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2024 list if they can complete it for this year.

Mark Ruffalo tells me he has, until now, kinda shied away from playing the villain of the piece. He licks his lips as he declares that it’s “so much fun to finally get to play the bad guy.”
He refers, of course, to his Duncan Wedderburn, the calculating cad of the first water he plays with zest in Yorgos Lanthimos’ delicious movie Poor Things.

Viewers took to social media to express their confusion and consternation after the first trailer for Mean Girls—the new film adaptation of the stage musical adaptation of the beloved 2004 film—dropped in November with no singing at all. Many wondered if this was just an ordinary remake for a new teen generation. After all, the tagline is “This is not your mother’s Mean Girls.” More than just aggrieved musical theater fans questioned whether producers were ashamed to let audiences know that this was indeed a movie musical.
The good news is that this Mean Girls proudly wears that genre like a homecoming crown, as the embrace of storytelling through song and dance is front and center. That was to be expected, as the musicalization of Mean Girls was largely a success back in 2018 when it opened on Broadway, and in large part because Tina Fey’s book for...

Julianne Nicholson isn’t holding her breath for a “Mare of Easttown” Season 2, but still would “100 percent” return to the HBO series if given the chance.
Nicholson, who won an Emmy along with co-stars Kate Winslet and Evan Peters, told People the long-awaited second season is “not impossible” but also not currently in the works. “Mare of Easttown” starred Winslet as a Pennsylvania detective investigating a series of missing girls. The show was created by Brad Ingelsby.
“It’s not impossible,” Nicholson said of a second season. “You never know.”
She added that she would “100 percent” reprise her role, “if there [was a Season 2] and Kate still was Mare and Jean [Smart] was her mom and Brad wrote it.”
However, Nicholson added, “I’m definitely not waiting for it. I’m not losing sleep over it. But if that was happening and I was invited to join, yeah, definitely.”

HBO has unveiled the first look at “Euphoria” breakout Sydney Sweeney as Nsa leaker Reality Winner in the upcoming film “Reality.” Tina Satter writes and directs the feature based on her 2019 play “Is This a Room,” and the dialogue in the film is directly from the transcript of the tense conversation between Reality Winner and the FBI agents who arrived at her home to question her.
The HBO original film takes place on June 3, 2017, when the 25-year-old former American intelligence specialist was confronted about the leak of an intelligence report about Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections, which ran on The Intercept. The shocking report showed how Russian hackers accessed voter registration roles in the United States.
This is Sweeney’s next major leading role after breaking out on the HBO series “Euphoria,” previously having starred in the HBO limited series “Sharp Objects,” Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and...

Kate Winslet and HBO are an electric combination. The Academy Award-winning actor first hooked up with the company in 2011 when she starred in Todd Haynes' sensational adaptation of James M. Cain's "Mildred Pierce," then returned 10 years later to produce and star in Brad Ingelsby's "Mare of Easttown." Now she's back in the fold with what appears to be her most ambitious series yet.
"The Regime" (formerly titled "The Palace") is an original show created by "Succession" writer-producer Will Tracy. According to a press release issued during Warner Bros. Discovery's April 12 introduction of its new Max streaming service, the show "tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel." If you're in the mood for another pitch-black comedy from the gang that brought you the pathetically conniving Roy clan, you are apparently in luck. Judging from the trailer,...

While a season two of ‘Easttown’ never materialized—series writer/creator Brad Ingelsby thought the story had been told—that did not deter Winslet from chasing down other projects on the premiere cable channel.
