Can’t afford to pack your bags and embark on a vacation adventure in an exotic foreign land? No problem, just travel vicariously at the multiplex. Many different genre films have more than a bit of “travelogue” in them (one of the staples of “golden age” moviegoing was the double feature with several short subjects: cartoons, newsreels, comedy “two-reelers”, and the travelogue, sandwiched between the main films). One type of story often set in “faraway places’ is the “rom-com”. Oh, and a frequent star of such flicks is this film’s leading lady, Diane Lane (Under The Tuscan Sun, Nights In Rodanthe). Yes, we’re talking about Superman’s Earth mum (we’ll see her again in the role soon in Justice League). These stories and many other recent Lane films concern her character re-discovering love and desire, usually after a long-standing relationship has gone “phhfft”. Now she’s on...

Animals live among us, often with us, some despite our interference in their habitats. They’re independent organisms that are often subject to our rules. This is especially true when it comes to television.
How we use and portray animals on TV perhaps reveals more about ourselves than the qualities they contain. Are they brought in to round out a nuclear TV family, or do they have greater narrative significance? Do they have personalities or are they plot devices that advance the story, and then forgotten? Do characters regard them with any real feeling?

IndieWire examined how the animal kingdom fared on our screens this year from a storytelling point of view, and determined which portrayals were the most significant. Because of this narrative aspect, we focused on two types: fictional animals whose characters were created for the purpose of the show, and non-speaking animals.

Is a witch still a "witch" even if she has no powers? That's a question I, and maybe even the mother witch, wants answered.
The Mary Sibley we know and love is no more. On Salem Season 3 Episode 3, we watched as she paid the ultimate price for defying the dark lord: he stripped her of all her powers. She's barely back from the dead and already she's changed.

Days of Our Lives really seemed to center around the children this week.
This was odd for a soap, where babies and young children generally are featured just to look cute while older people carry the show.
However, it led to quite a few interesting storylines as there continued to be fallout from Tate's kidnapping, the custody battle over Thomas entered new territory and Chloe and Philip attempted to convince others that he was the father of her unborn child.
Philip and Chloe's plan is, of course, doomed to failure. If anyone knows this, it's Nicole, who already tried that and got herself into major trouble several years ago when Rafe and Daniel helped her hide her pregnancy from Ej.
It was nice that Chloe mentioned that, though Nicole's attitude that that was all in the past and no longer understandable was ridiculous. Nicole was trying to protect her unborn...

"The Michael J. Fox Show", NBC's new comedy starring Michael J. Fox, Betsy Brandt, and Wendell Pierce, is based loosely on Fox's real-life experiences going back to work after being diagnosed with Parkinson's ... but it's going to get more real-life than you expect. Fox's wife, Tracy Pollan, will guest star in an upcoming episode, Fox announced at the NBC TCA press tour on Saturday (July 27).
"Tracy actually did an episode of the show and she was great," Fox said. "She had a lot of scenes with Wendell. We'll certainly mine old friendships and working partners for the show."
Pollan will appear in the third episode of the season, and Fox teased that viewers can also expect to see special guest appearances from his old "Family Ties" cast in future episodes.
Another big guest star appearing on the new half-hour comedy is Anne Heche -- and her role is a pivotal one.

Looking to enjoy a low-key Tuesday afternoon (July 9), Anne Hathaway and her hubby Adam Shulman went out for lunch at Sun Cafe in Burbank, CA.
Looking effortlessly chic, the "Les Miserables" star wore skinny jeans, a tucked in white button-up and a large brimmed Panama hat as she hid from awaiting shutterbugs.
Keeping their date day going, the pair stopped off at Atomic Records after filling their stomachs to check out a few vintage vinyl tunes!
In career news, it looks like Anne may have some extra time on her hands as it was reported by the New York Post that she won't be making her Broadway debut as expected.
Rumors had been swirling that Miss Hathaway would play the role of Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady," but apparently the actress couldn't commit to a long enough schedule for the gig.

Looking a tad weary after a long flight, Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman arrived at Lax Airport from New York City on Wednesday (March 13).
The "Les Misérables" star looked cute in a gray top, ripped blue jeans, and a long gray patterned scarf as she stayed close to her hubby.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, the 30-year-old actress is being considered to star in another movie musical hoping to find success on the silver screen.

Dallas Season 2 kicked off last week with Bobby’s current wife, Ann, being rejected by the daughter she thought she’d never see again.
How will she react when Bobby tells her that her evil ex has had a relationship with their child for years?
Brenda Strong talked to TV Fanatic recently and teased that we may understand the reason why Harris is so evil, while also previewing how Ann may be holding more secrets from Bobby and explaining that Ann and Sue Ellen may soon be at odds again.
Read on for excerpts from our Q&A, including Strong's reaction to acting opposite the late, great Larry Hagman...
TV Fanatic: I remember last year you teased a lot about what Ann would be going through in season two. How worse is Harris going to become? He’s just awful and you love to hate him.
Brenda Strong: You do love to hate him.

Take a look at the gorgeous gown from all angles -- didn't she look premiere perfect? Anne Hathaway hasn't really impressed us while promoting her upcoming summer blockbuster, The Dark Knight Rises, until now! At the NYC premiere last night, the star reminded us why we love seeing her on the red carpet, when she turned up in a stunning white gown from Prabal Gurung's Resort 2013 collection. The jersey gown stayed true to the peplum trend, but that wasn't the only detail we loved about this look! With a cowl neck back and an exposed, embellished corset, the dress was premiere perfect. Anne totally stole the spotlight -- and we're so happy to see a stylish Anne storm the red carpet once again! Kwiat jewels, a pink lip and Anne's cropped 'do completed the ensemble. Anne may play a dark, vampy Catwoman in the latest installment of the Batman series,...

Anne Hathaway's fiancé, Adam Shulman, was right behind her as they arrived at Lax yesterday. The couple hopped on a flight to NYC after visiting with friends on the West Coast. Anne's on a break from filming Les Misérables in London, where she hit the set with costar Hugh Jackman in April. She took advantage of the downtime to escape to Miami earlier this month. Anne wore a black bikini for a dip in the ocean with her mom Kathleen during the getaway, which came just before Mother's Day. Anne may still be sporting cropped hair for her character in Les Mis, but she'll soon be switching gears to another project. The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters in July and Anne will be traveling to promote the latest installment in the Batman franchise. View Slideshow ›...

Talk about perfect timing: This Valentine's Day, let "Parks and Recreation's" Tom Haverford show you how to woo the ladies.
In a recent episode of the sterling NBC comedy, Ann (Rashida Jones) went on a date with Tom (Aziz Ansari), despite knowing what a would-be ladies man he is. As she says in the exclusive video above, nothing much happened on the date, but Tom doesn't seem to be aware of that. On the Feb. 16 episode of the show, with typically goofy Tom Haverford brazenness, he acts like he and Ann are a couple, when that's clearly not the case (certainly not in Ann's mind). Basically, Tom really loves nicknames.
Ann may not be impressed with Tom's game at this point, but she's at a place where dating the ambitious Pawnee player is a real option.
"The reality is if you were Ann and you were single and you...

Anne has slowly revealed her intense training to get ‘skinny’ and ‘strong’ for her new role, shooting down rumors that Catwoman may not be seen in the upcoming Dark Knight Rises!
The Dark Knight Rises has been shrouded in secrecy for months, and very little to nothing is known about filming, but Anne Hathaway has inadvertently given away some major clues about her new role in recent interviews! Anne told Harper’s Bazaar she has been training five days a week to get not only thin, but strong. Seems like Catwoman, and not Selina Kyle, will be more featured in the new film!
That’s not all either as Anne told the mag that, in addition to stunt training, she is doing an hour and a half of dance training every day. That is some serious commitment were Catwoman to only be appearing towards the end of the film.

ABC Family’s charming teen soap Pretty Little Liars is nothing if not a guilty pleasure. And last night’s season 2 premiere, which found the show back with new episodes for the first time since March, certainly delivered on that deliciously guilty front. One of my favorite, delightful moments was a quick exchange between two of the show’s main BFFs Aria (Lucy Hale) and Hanna (Ashley Benson), after the gal’s secret-wielding nemesis “A” had struck yet again, while the foursome was at one of their newly mandated therapy sessions. “How is ‘A’ always one step ahead of us?...

Anne Hathaway is following in the footsteps of Michelle Pfeiffer , Halle Berry , Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt -- she's playing Catwoman ! The " Love and Other Drugs " star has officially signed on to the next Batman movie, " The Dark Knight Rises ," as " Selina Kyle " -- A.K.A. Catwoman's alter-ego -- according to Deadline . In the casting announcement, Writer/Director Christopher Nolan said “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” Of course, the release makes no direct reference to "Catwoman" herself, just Selina ... so Anne may not don the infamous catsuit. Also officially announced today was Tom Hardy in the role of Bane . Hardy and Nolan previously worked together on " Inception ." The flick is scheduled for a July 20, 2012 release. Read more...

Ron Swanson has officially confirmed that he is the coolest television character after with this week's Parks and Recreation. Not only does Ron bring the laughs, this week he brought the insightful pearls of wisdom.
The Valentine themed "Galentine's Day" focused more on relationships, rather than the standard laugh-out-loud moments of Parks. Maybe it's because we're sappy around this Hallmark Holiday time of the year, but we feel Parks has given us enough laughs and fleshed out their characters enough to deserve it.
The weakest of the four relationships covered, Leslie and Justin's came to an end last night. That's where the brilliant Ron stepped in and finally hit the nail on the head with Justin: he's a tourist. Good riddance to this douchebag story teller. Only poor Tom was hilariously heart-broken as he acted like the child in divorce during the break-up.

Queen of Louisiana Sophie-Ann may not be the only lesbian on "True Blood". After creator Alan Ball projected his thought of having other characters to have a same-sex relationship, actress Kristin Bauer has stepped forward to express her willingness to participate in that storyline.
Bauer plays Pam the sidekick of Eric and the screener of Fangtasia. Ball said he thinks Pam has a "lesbian vibe", explaining further, "I don't know that that's all she is, but she certainly does seem to appreciate the women."
"I wouldn't be surprised," Bauer told E! about Ball's plan to have Pam swinging the other way. "I think she's pansexual." One character that she pointed out to be her potential love interest was Ginger. "There are so many hot ones, but I'll pick Ginger. Ginger's hot. Ginger's fun. She's a screamer and she's a blood donor," the actress stated her reason.
