Sunday's (April 21) installment of "The Amazing Race" was definitely one of those Legs that would be much more fun for the people participating than for those of us sitting at home on our couches. I realized that as Joey from Team YouTube made his way through the Roadblock, which basically asked one player from each pair to navigate the "American Horror Story" opening credits, which were set up in the back of a Berlin bar. Joey, as he does, kept emitting high-pitched squeals of pleasure and he insisted that this was the best Roadblock in "Amazing Race" history....

It was a roller-coaster end for "Amazing Race" Cardiac Kids Chuck & Wynona on Sunday (April 14) night's episode. After an early season run escaping elimination due to misadventures or injuries to other teams, the Alabama couple seemed destined to finally head home after a physically arduous Leg in Switzerland. Then a weird thing happened and YouTubers Meghan & Joey, working with a comfortable cushion, couldn't find a cab to the next Pit Stop and ended up walking. Chuck & Wynona, finished a cheese transportation task well behind, but successfully secured a cab and made it to Phil Keoghan in...

The Amazing Race Review, Season 22, Episode 8
“My Cheese Is Out of Control”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
The challenge when analyzing teams on The Amazing Race is realizing that survival is all that truly matters. Pairs have bumbled their way across the globe but ended up winning it all because they never finished last. The latest players to fit this description are Chuck and Wynona, who have remained near the back of the pack throughout this season. Even when they’ve finished higher, it’s been the result of struggles from other teams. This week, their luck finally runs out because of a penalty at the mat. The amazing thing is that they almost survive once again. When an exhausted Joey and Meghan struggle to find the Pit Stop, it gives the Alabama couple another shot to grab a life boat. This time, they aren’t so lucky and face an unfortunate exit.

Final-round coverage of the Masters leaked into CBS primetime Sunday night, surging from last year's telecast of the PGA flagship. Overnight ratings for the tournament have it up 26 percent compared with 2012 in Nielsen's metered markets. It averaged a 10.2 rating among households, peaking between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Edt with a 13.4 rating. Nearly an hour's worth of golf overrun because of a playoff between eventual winner Adam Scott and Angel Cabrera meant that the networks' Fast National primetime returns -- 60 Minutes (2.4 rating in adults 18-to-49), Amazing Race (2.0) and The Good Wife (1.7) -- are

After last week's non-elimination leg, another team was cut from The Amazing Race on Sunday night. Pam Chien and Winnie Sung came in last place on the mat and were eliminated from the CBS reality competition. The best friends were strong contenders for the $1 million prize throughout the race, but they ran into trouble with a detour in Botswana that found them choosing between brains (riding a horse while trying to remember images of 10 animals in order) and brawns (coercing donkeys into pulling a load of branches and sticks). “Scorpion King Hunter”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
This week’s Amazing Race opens with an apology for insensitivity towards Vietnam veterans in last week’s episode. Phil’s statement is a response to an outcry led by Fox News that included calls to boycott the series. While those claims seem over the top, it spotlights a challenge for a show that’s moving so quickly through other cultures. A downed B-52 bomber was used as the backdrop for a clue, and a goofy song described the wonders of socialism. The current version of this competition plays out so quickly and rarely takes a breath to consider whether it’s cheapening the countries on display. This standard may be unfair for a reality competition, but that’s the challenge for a show that’s using aspects of these locations. While the apology is understandable,...

Dave and Connor O'Leary's "Amazing Race" journey reached a painful end when Dave tore his Achilles heading for the mat at the end of the season's second Leg. But then a funny thing happened. Then the cancer survivors used an advantageous flight and a couple strong task performances to reach another Pit Stop in first. On Sunday's (March 17) episode, though, Dave & Connor's run came to an end. With doctors...

Plenty of great shows have low ratings. Enlightened barely even had ratings. In its just-completed second season, the show was averaging in the neighborhood of 200 thousand viewers, which is a number that barely even looks impressive on YouTube now. It almost certainly had more people watching — and as a post-network network, HBO keeps an eye on all the myriad ways we consume TV shows, DVR and OnDemand and HBO Go. Fans of the show could hope that HBO would keep it around for the critical acclaim. (Yeesh, look how many seasons they gave Tremé.) But sometimes, no ratings really is no ratings; yesterday,...

The award for Ratner represented a turnaround from a little over a year ago when he dropped out as producer of last year’s Academy Awards after joking at an early press conference that “rehearsing is for fags”. David and Connor still win the two-part leg despite the fact that David has a ruptured Achilles. All of these are crazy examples, but they pale in comparison to the baffling conclusion this week. CBS has set its April/May finale dates for the end of the 2012-2013 season, a schedule that includes the usual two-hour finales for "Survivor" and "the Amazing Race," as well as a couple super-sized drama finales. First to depart the scene for CBS is "The Good Wife," which wraps on Sunday, April 28. The early exit allows "The Amazing Race" (and "The Mentalist") to fill primetime on May 5 and "Survivor: Caramoan" to take up its usual three hours (reunion included) on May 12. CBS will be splitting up its finales on most of the rest of its schedule....

Much ado is made about those poor "Survivor" contestants who've been voted out of the game while holding onto a Hidden Immunity Idol. "The Amazing Race" had no equivalent boneheaded move until this week. Jessica & John were strong front-runners, having picked up an Express Pass by winning the first leg of the race. This week, Jessica wondered time and again if they should use it.
But as they fell further and further from the front of the pack, John kept insisting that it simply made no sense to use it. Believe it or not, he kept up that attitude until they were the last team still competing, and still he determined to finish out the last task without even using the Express Pass to simply end the leg.
After waiting for hours, they finally finished the task and arrived at the mat. Phil was openly stunned by what he'd just witnessed.

The Amazing Race is really starting to heat up as another team was sent home this week. John and Jessica have been the next team eliminated with Dave and Connor finishing in first place despite Dave?s injury. Is it a coincidence the top two teams after week four on the show are also the top two teams on our likeability rankings? Maybe not, let?s take a look at where these teams rank in terms of their likeability to fans.

Amazing Race 22 eliminated John Erck & Jessica Hoel in episode 4 tonight. Tonight's episode was a continuation from the incomplete last episode, and kicked off with the teams ,learning they had to head to Bali,Indonesia to get their next Clue. Meanwhile, host Phil Keoghan ,revealed what place the teams finished in that last leg of the race. Chuck & Wynona were the last team to arrive. However, Phil told them they were still in the race and not eliminated. After the teams found their first clue in Bali, they were directed to their detours: "Sandy Bottom" or "Fruity Top." In the "Sandy Bottom" detour, the teams had to transport a lot of sand to the correct location to get their next clue. Donald Trump could get called into NBC’s boardroom if his numbers don’t improve.
The business tycoon’s All-Star Celebrity Apprentice returned Sunday night to its lowest-rated premiere ever for a celebrity edition of the reality franchise. Only 5.1 million viewers tuned in to watch the show, which had a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49. That’s down 38 percent from last year’s premiere. Contestants include Trace Adkins, Bret Michaels, La Toya Jackson and Omarosa.
ABC’s Dancing With the Stars also hit lows with an All-Star edition this season. It’s impossible to know in either case if new casts would have performed worse,...

This is going to be a Predictable Dan Recap, because if you've read my "Amazing Race" coverage for the past five or six years, you know how I feel about nearly everything in Sunday's (March 3) episode. Click through, because I'm gonna dispatch with this recap fairly quickly... Through 25 minutes, Sunday's episode included two Equalizers and zero tasks. You know how I feel about that. And at the end of an hour, nobody went home, though this was a "To Be Continued..." Leg, rather than a Non-Elimination Leg. So yeah. You probably know how I...

Amazing Race 22 eliminated no one in episode 3 tonight. Tonight's show kicked off with the teams, learning they had to go to Christchurch,New Zealand to get their first clue for this leg of the race. Meanwhile David & Connor went to see a doctor in Tahiti to get David's injured achilles tendon examined, and it turned out to be torn, but David put a orthopedic boot on to keep it stable and kept on going with some crutches. Once the teams arrived in Christchurch,New Zealand, they had to head to a river to get their clue, which gave them their detours: "Rev It Up," or "Reel It In." In the "Rev It Up" detour, both team members had to complete a race-car obstacle course in a certain amount of time to get their next clue. In the "Reel It In" detour, they had to catch a 12 inch long fish with...

With a touch of her trademark humor, Ellen DeGeneres tackles a very serious topic close to the talk show host's heart: gay marriage.
In an open letter posted to her website, Ellen reaches out to members of the Supreme Court, who will soon decide the fate of same-sex couples who wish to wed.
Pics: 'Amazing Race' Stars Cheer Up Bullied Gay Fan
"Portia and I have been married for 4 years and they have been the happiest of my life," she blogs of her longtime partner Portia De Rossi. "And in those 4 years, I don't think we hurt anyone else's marriage. I asked all of my neighbors and they say they're fine."
Ellen, who tied the knot in 2008 during a brief period when gay marriage was legal in California, now urges the powers that be to open their heart and extend the privilege to every gay couple.
"I hope the Supreme Court will do the right...

In my recap of Sunday (February 24) night's "Amazing Race," I harped extensively on misfortune/negligence of going on the Emmy-winning competition if you're unable to deal with water. I probably slightly over-emphasized the role that water played in the elimination of twins Idries and Jamil Abdur-Rahman, neglecting that even sandcastles proved a challenge for the sibling gynecologists in the previous Leg. Still, on the most basic level, Idries and Jamil were undone by their difficulties in the crystal clear blue waters of Bora Bora, which led to their elimination in the second Leg of the "Amazing Race" season. ...

Idries and Jamil were thrown into the deep end on Sunday's Amazing Race. The twin brothers and Ob/GYNs were forced to confront their fear of water when both Detour options took place underwater in Bora Bora. They struggled and eventually came in last. But before you chastise them for breaking two of Race's cardinal rules (know how to drive stick shift and know how to swim), know that the twins did take swimming lessons before the show. So what happened?

You'll have to tell me, fellow "Amazing Race" fans: Was Sunday (February 24) night's episode really, really lame and anti-climactic or did it only feel lame to this recapper who had to watch the episode after seven-ish hours of consecutive tweeting and live-blogging of the Oscars and really might have preferred to just to to sleep, rather than dealing with an "Amazing Race" Leg with little travel, a couple uninspired challenges and a lot of whining? I mean, I'd like to think that even in my exhausted state, I would have enjoyed a Good episode of "The Amazing Race," but this...

Amazing Race 22 eliminated Idries & Jamil Abdur-Rahman in episode 2 tonight. Tonight's episode ,kicked off with the teams, learning they had to travel by water taxi to a different part of the Bora,Bora island to get their first clue for this leg of the race. Once they got there, they ran into their detours: "Pick A Pearl, or "Take A Trunk." In the "Pick A Pearl" detour, they had find two red pearls in the ocean to get their next clue. In the "Take A Trunk" detour, they had to find a treasure trunk ,remove its contents, and create a nice underwater dining experience with it to get their next clue. After the detours, the teams had to jet ski to another area of the island to locate their next clue. Once there, they ran into a Road Block, where they had hop on stilt-like sticks and kick some balls across...

The midseason ratings slump continues: CBS’ Amazing Race returned to its lowest-rated premiere yet. The Emmy-winning travel competition series had 9.5 million viewers and a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49 Sunday evening for its 22nd edition. That’s down 14 percent from last year. At least that’s not as bad as Survivor’s drop. Race didn’t help its lead-out much — CBS’ The Good Wife (8.5 million, 1.4) was down 7 percent from its last episode three weeks ago.
Meanwhile, ABC’s Revenge (3.1 million, 1.8) recovered somewhat from last week’s scary season low. The wicked soap bounced up 29 percent from last week’s all-time low...

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013
The most-watched show on TV Sunday night probably wasn't on any of the broadcast networks. Nothing on ABC, CBS, Fox or NBC broke 10 million viewers, so there's a good chance "The Walking Dead" beat everything else on TV. The AMC series and the NBA All-Star Game on TNT probably will also have the top adults 18-49 marks of the night.
The premiere of the 22nd "Amazing Race" scored the best network numbers of the night for CBS, with ratings about even with its fall debut. "Once Upon a Time" and "Revenge" were up a little from last week for ABC, but they were still on the low side of their season averages. "The Good Wife" and "The Mentalist" were low for CBS as well.
CBS averaged 9.2 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/9 share for the night, leading second-place ABC (5.9 million, 3.5/6) by a substantial margin. NBC (4.4 million,...

Amazing Race 22 eliminated Matthew Davis & Daniel Moss in episode 1 tonight. Tonight's premiere episode, kicked off with an introduction of the new teams. Then they got right down to business. Host Phil Keoghan ,revealed to the teams that they had an opportunity to win two express passes if they win this leg of the race. Then they headed to get their bags and clues from inside their cars. The clues told them, they had to catch a flight to the Bora Bora island to get their next clue. So off they drove in their new cars to get to the airport. Once they got to Bora Bora, they had to sky dive in order to get their next clue. From there, they had to go to a beach in another part of the area to retrieve their next clue, and they ran into a Road Block. In the Road Block challenge,...

You know how I'm going to begin this "Amazing Race" premiere recap and I know how I'm going to begin this "Amazing Race" premiere recap. So we might as well do it together, eh? All together now... "Amazing Race" premiere episodes should Never be less than 90 minutes and should always, ideally, be two hours. Given that "The Amazing Race" has superior 18-49 numbers to "The Good Wife" and given that "The Good Wife" has comically low repeat numbers, surely it would behoove both "The Amazing Race" and CBS to set that particular regulation in stone. There...
