So said a woman seated behind The Hollywood Reporter inside Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, host of the inaugural The Netflix Slam. Sure, it was a dramatic statement but it wasn’t obscene for such an occasion. There’s no shortage of gasp-worthy moments in Sin City, and there’s no doubt many of the 9,489 seated guests could relate to the sentiment.
The Sunday afternoon showdown, the latest in Netflix’s push for live streaming events, pitted two superstar Spaniards in an exhibition match that could be one of the final few times they meet across a net. Exclusive: The auction for All3Media has reached its final stage and frontrunners have emerged to acquire the The Traitors super-indie.
Deadline has been told that Banijay and Peter Chernin’s North Road are leading the pack. Goldman Sachs, meanwhile, has emerged as a surprise candidate. ITV, which has been linked for several months with an All3Media buy, is still monitoring the situation, we understand, and remains in the running. After going up for sale in May with a reported valuation of around £1B ($1.2B), the All3Media auction kicked off in earnest last month. All3Media is co-owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) and Liberty Global.

Like other streamers, Netflix seems eager to get into live sports. But it isn’t quite ready to start paying the massive rights fees that such activity usually requires.
So, the streaming giant intends to launch a “Netflix Cup,” a golf tournament that will pit race-car drivers from its popular Formula 1 documentary series “Drive to Survive” against golfers from a similar effort called “Full Swing.” Both sides will tee up in a match play tournament at Wynn Golf Club on the Las Vegas Strip. The event is slated to get underway on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
If the concept sounds familiar, well, that’s because it is. Warner Bros. Discovery has gained some traction with its own series of “The Match” celebrity golf events that often tap NFL players and top golfers and are usually broadcast on cable networks like TNT. The endeavor lets Warner, which has a sports-rights portfolio built around the NBA,...

Netflix is taking a swing at live sports.
The streamer, which has mounted a few live events in the past year, has set its first live sports event — one that also reinforces the company brand. The trailer for Ayenda, the upcoming documentary short from MSNBC Films and Time Studios about the Under-18 Afghan National Women’s Football Team, has been released a day before its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on Saturday, June 10.
The film — from director Marie Margolius, who produced alongside Connor Schell, and with a list of exec producers that includes Trevor Noah and Rashida Jones — tells the true story of how members of the team carried out a daring escape from their homeland in 2021 after Kabul’s fall to the Taliban. In the trailer, the women listen to the phone call they received telling them that they needed to leave Afghanistan immediately, giving them instructions on what to do.
Ayenda is set to air on MSNBC and Peacock this summer, as well as get a theatrical qualifying run for the 96th Academy Awards.

Peter Chernin’s North Road Co. has taken a minority stake in Omaha Prods., the busy production banner headed by NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning.
The deal brings an influx of capital to Omaha and it allows the company to tap into the production and distribution infrastructure that Chernin is building through North Road, which launched last year with backing from private equity giants Providence Equity and Apollo Global Management. North Road is in assembling a roster of content banners with the goal of creating a strong independent source of TV and film titles for buyers, particularly those outside the U.S.
Omaha is already co-producing projects with North Road-affiliated Words + Pictures, which is headed by former ESPN programming executive Connor Schell. Omaha made a splash starting with the 2021 football season with the launch of its “ManningCast” alternative telecast of “Monday Night Football” featuring Manning and his brother Eli Manning,...
