What Do We Know About Dune Prophecy? More than you may think. With the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel a critical and box office success, it is going to be several years before we see the next feature film in the series, Dune Messiah. Luckily, production on the small-screen prequel /spin-off was concurrent with Dune: Part Two which means before the end of the year we are going to return to the fictional realms of Arrakis, Geidi Prime, and more via Max.
While not much in the way of footage has made its way online, there have been quite a few reveals about Dune Prophecy, so let’s jump in and discuss.
Denis Villeneuve is not directing any episodes
The original plan was for Villeneuve to helm the series in addition to his big screen directorial duties. The series, originally announced as Dune: The Sisterhood,...

HBO Max’s return to Arrakis is taking a bit of a setback. The “Dune” prequel series has lost both its director and one of its stars, IndieWire has confirmed. This news does not in any way affect the release of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” this fall.
Johan Renck, who was set to direct the first two episodes of the show, and Shirley Henderson, who was set to play one of the leads, have both exited the series following the beginning of production in November. Production on the series, currently under the working title “Dune: The Sisterhood,” has reportedly been put on hold until replacements for both are found. A statement from HBO Max attributed the change to an “effort to create the best series possible.”

HBO Max’s “Dune” prequel series, currently known as “Dune: The Sisterhood” is undergoing further “creative changes” as director Johan Renck and star Shirley Henderson have departed the project, TheWrap has learned. The overhaul comes months after creator Diane Ademu-John’s exit as co-showrunner last November.
“As ‘Dune: The Sisterhood (wt)’ has entered a pre-scheduled hiatus, there are some creative changes being made to the production in an effort to create the best series possible and stay true to the source material,” an HBO Max spokesperson told TheWrap. “Johan Renck has completed his work on the series and a new director will be brought on; through mutual agreement, Johan is moving on to pursue other projects. Additionally, Shirley Henderson will be exiting the series and will no longer be playing Tula Harkonnen.” The aforementioned hiatus had been pre-planned to avoid filming during the winter.

Chernobyl executive producer Johan Renck, who had signed on to direct the first two episodes, has exited the project. Search is underway for his replacement as production has been put on hold. “Dune: The Sisterhood” creator, writer and executive producer Diane Ademu-John (“The Haunting of Bly Manor”) has stepped down as co-showrunner of the HBO Max series ahead of production, TheWrap has confirmed. Ademu-John, who replaced former co-showrunner Jon Spaihts in 2021, will remain involved in an EP capacity.
Veteran TV writer-producer Alison Schapker (“Lost”) will now be the sole showrunner for the “Dune” prequel series.
Announced back in 2019 during HBO Max’s nascent stages, “Dune: The Sisterhood” (working title) is based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 epic sci-fi novel, exploring the mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit, who have honed extraordinary capabilities due to their control over their bodies and minds. Set 10,000 years ahead of the events of “Dune,” which sees the ascent of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), the drama follows the Harkonnen Sisters (Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson) as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect.

‘Avalon’ Not Going Forward At ABC; David E. Kelley’s Neve Campbell-Led Drama Being Shopped Elsewhere
ABC has passed on David E. Kelley’s crime drama series Avalon, starring Neve Campbell, after it was handed a straight-to-series order in February.
The Disney-owned network is not moving forward with the project, which is based on a Michael Connelly short story, after it saw the pilot episode.
While unusual for a straight-to-series order, ABC does have an option not to take such shows forward after receiving the first cut, and obviously Disney is a part owner in A+E Studios, which was producing with 20th Television.
The move echoes ABC’s pass on the Alec Baldwin/Kelsey Grammer-fronted multi-cam comedy last year.
Deadline understands that A+E Networks will explore its options and attempt to sell it to another network or streamer. A+E Networks was successful in shopping one of its other Kelley projects, The Lincoln Lawyer, to Netflix after CBS passed, though that one ended in a lawsuit.

ABC has reversed course on the drama series “Avalon,” opting not to move forward with the show despite giving it a straight-to-series order in February.
“Avalon” hailed from David E. Kelley and executive producer Michael Connelly, with the show based on a short story that Connelly wrote. Neve Campbell was set to star in the lead role. Other cast members included Demetrius Grosse, Alexa Mansour, Steven Pasquale, and Roslyn Ruff.
Per the official logline, the show “takes place in the main city of Avalon on Catalina Island, where LA Sheriff Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy (Campbell) heads up a small office. Catalina has a local population that serves more than 1 million tourists a year, and each day when the ferries arrive, hundreds of potential new stories enter the island. Detective Searcy is pulled into a career-defining mystery that will challenge everything she knows about herself and the island.”

ABC is scuttling its series Avalon, taking the series from David E. Kelley off its 2022-23 slate.
The drama, produced by A+E Studios and Disney’s 20th Television, was to have starred Neve Campbell as the L.A. Sheriff’s detective who leads a small office on Catalina Island off the Southern California coast. The show, based on a short story by Michael Connelly and created for television by the prolific Kelley, scored a straight to series order in February.
Dana Calvo (Good Girls Revolt, Narcos) came aboard as showrunner in April. Campbell heads a cast that also includes Steven Pasquale, Alexa Mansour, Demetrius Grosse and Roslyn Ruff.
Sources say that the show’s first episode had finished filming, but nothing beyond that. A+E Studios is said to believe in the show’s auspices and will explore options to find Avalon another home.

Jon Spaihts is stepping down as showrunner for HBO Max’s upcoming “Dune” TV series and will shift his focus to a potential sequel for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming big-screen reboot of Frank Herbert’s novel.
Spaihts will still remain as an executive producer on the series, which is from Legendary TV, an individual with knowledge of the production tells TheWrap. Villeneuve is set to direct the pilot. Dana Calvo, the creator of “Good Girls Revolt,” was brought in as co-showrunner in July.

Given the current #MeToo movement, perhaps we should file this one under "Opportunity Lost." Dana Calvo, creator of the cancelled Good Girls Revolt TV show, has announced on social media that there will be no second season of the period drama. Calvo went so far as to say, "It's over," after the pitch for a new installment has failed. Good Girls Revolt originally ran for one season on Amazon, before being cancelled in December of 2016. Inspired by the real-life events chronicled in Lynn Povich's book, The Good Girls Revolt (affiliate link), the drama starred Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp, Erin Darke, Chris Diamantopoulos, Hunter Parrish, Jim Belushi, Joy Bryant, and Grace Gummer. In November, we reported Calvo and TriStar TV’s Suzanne Patmore Gibbs were pitching a different angle for season two than they originally made to Amazon, but even that...

In the #metoo era, the time seemed right for a new installment of feminist period drama Good Girls Revolt, hastily canceled by Amazon a year ago. But in the end, no deal was reached, and I hear the effort…...

For most of the history of cinema and television, women's place in the canon – as creators, as directors, as subjects, as viewers, as ratings and box office draws – was defined by its rarity. Men were the default: the default audience, the default protagonists, the default creative leaders.
But 2017 – in many ways a hellish year, in other ways a hell of a year, for women – has witnessed a sea change in the assumed standard point of view. This is the year that stories for, by and about women have begun to...

2017-11-10T06:16:59-08:00'Good Girls Revolt' Revival Under Consideration
When Amazon cancelled Good Girls Revolt earlier this year, the move came as quite surprise because of its swiftness. Sources reported that Amazon Studios chief Roy Price hated the show about sexism in the field of journalism, and after Price was fired from Amazon amid allegations that he had sexually harassed women he worked with, there seemed to be an explanation for why he hated the show so much. Now the series' production company is reportedly looking for a new home for a show that is suddenly on the cutting edge of the sexual harassment scandal that is gripping Hollywood.

Less than a year after Amazon canceled the series, “Good Girls Revolt” might get a Season 2 after all. And it might not even have to find a new home.
Sony execs revealed on Thursday that they have received renewed interest in the show, given a changing culture after the recent Harvey Weinstein scandals. According to insiders, Sony is once again shopping a revival of “Good Girls Revolt” — and the potential suitors even include Amazon, now under new management.
The ten episodes of “Good Girls Revolt” released last October centered on a group of young women at magazine in the late 1960s, including the ways that they deal with rampant workplace sexism.

It’s no coincidence that Amazon released its period drama “Good Girls Revolt,” about 1960s-era female employees seeking equality in the newsroom, less than two weeks before Election Day. Although the feminist-friendly series is set over 40 years ago, the issues its characters rally behind are still as relevant today – and, in fact, have been a key part of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign platform.
