Sometimes I wish movies came with a definitive “Stop” button, like Dave Chappelle’s “Wrap It Up” device. I’ve seen too many directors botch their film’s ending by thinking audiences want to be barraged by as many twists as possible, prolonging the inevitable. M. Night Shyamalan has polluted the minds of so many up-and-coming writers/directors who cram twists and turns in the clunkiest of fashions, because for some reason society has interpreted The Sixth Sense as “Give Me All Of The Plot Twists!” Here’s the problem – twists only work when monumentally awesome. A twist that remains hidden for ninety minutes then blows an audience member’s mind Scanners style is worthy of such manipulation, but the overly foreshadowed reveal coming too-little-too-late has become absolutely laughable – and unfortunately that’s what curses Death Do Us Part. Ok, sorry, Way more absurdity destroys this slasher wanna-be, but a...

Well the first Ashes Test between Australia and England is done and dusted and it must be said that anyone who thought that it would be a replay of the walkover in England earlier this year was given a rude shock. From the third session on the first day it was difficult to say that England won a single session during the Test Match. With the Second Test just under two weeks away, there is time for the Poms to regroup and regather, but there is no doubt that they are coming up against a hardened Australian unit that will go to Adelaide full of confidence and fire after totally dismantling England in four days- despite the heavens conspiring to stop them.
So, what else did we learn about the series from the Gabba Test? Read on…

Alastair Cook lifts the urn as England celebrate their 3-0 series victory over Australia.
You may have been forgiven for thinking the fifth and final Test match at The Oval would be a damp squib, after all the outcome would not affect the series following Australia’s capitulation at Durham, although England were in search of an historic and unprecedented 4-0 Ashes series win.
This was not the case however. From England’s surprise decision to hand all-rounder Chris Woakes and left arm off-spinner Simon Kerrigan their debuts, to an outstanding knock from Shane Watson, this match delivered more than what most expected.
Australia won the toss on the first day and unsurprisingly batted first, with the aforementioned Watson in super touch scoring timely runs ahead of the return series down under which commences on the 21st November.
In fact Watson – who had not hit a Test century since 2010 – batting at number three,...

An Alaskan fisherman survived 26 hours in the ocean after his boat sank. Ryan Harris, 19, spent the night in a plastic crate used to store fish after a wave overturned and sank his boat, just off the coast of Sitka, Alaska. According to Reuters, Harris told a local newspaper that he sang songs like 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat' and 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' to keep himself awake. Harris also said that he gave himself a 'pep talk' and repeated that he was "not going to die". The 28-foot boat overturned on late Friday, leaving Harris and fellow fisherman Stonie (more)...

'American Idol' runner-up has written most of the tracks on debut album due December 14.

As you might expect, Crystal Bowersox is doing things her own way on her upcoming debut album, Farmer's Daughter. The 12-track disc from the season-nine "American Idol" second-place finisher, due out December 14, is a mix of country grit and blues growl. And unlike previous "Idol" runner-up debuts (or winner debuts for that matter), most of the songs were written by Bowersox, with two pre-dating her time on "Idol."
The disc opens with the pedal-steel rocking, high-stepping country jam "Ridin' With the Radio," penned by Bowersox; her new husband, Brian Walker, provides background vocals. The party tune about hitting the road and belting out tunes however you like is followed by a cover of the legendary Buffalo Springfield anti-war anthem "For What It's Worth,...

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: A widespread viral outbreak savagely transforms ordinary citizens into violent, blood-thirsty creatures. A small group of humans try their best to avoid becoming infected while arguing amongst themselves in an isolated setting. Sounds familiar to you? Ryan Harris’ upcoming horror flick “H1N1: Virus X” takes this well-worn scenario and dresses it up in a story that’s ripped straight from the headlines. Call me an overly sensitive jerk if you must, but isn’t the movie a huge slap in the face to those who’ve lost family members to this deadly virus? After all, you wouldn’t make a zombie movie centered around breast cancer, would you? I doubt it. By the way — If you steal that idea, I’m coming for you. If you’re still curious about “H1N1: Virus X”, the trailer is nestled below.
