Exclusive: Jim Rash is set to direct his script Miss You, Love You, a drama that will star Allison Janney and Andrew Rannells. Madison Wells, The Walsh Company and Nat Faxon will produce a film that will begin production next month in New Mexico. Gigi Pritzker, Kevin Walsh are producing with Rash.
In the film, Janney will play a woman whose husband has passed away. With a funeral to plan and grieving to be done, she reaches out to her estranged son. He refuses to come home, choosing instead to send his personal assistant to help make the arrangements. The widow is forced to process her grief in the presence of a complete stranger.

Spectrum has canceled “LA’s Finest” after two seasons, TheWrap has confirmed. The show’s second season premiered last month.
A spinoff of the “Bad Boys” film series, “L.A.’s Finest” featured Gabrielle Union reprising her role as Syd Burnett from 2003’s “Bad Boys II.” Now an LAPD detective, Syd is paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba). Alba and Union are executive producers on the series alongside Brandon Margolis, Brandon Sonnier, Pam Veasey, Doug Belgrad, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed, Jeff Gaspin, Jeff Morrone and pilot director Anton Cropper.
The show’s second season was originally scheduled to premiere in June, but Spectrum postponed that to September in response to the wave of protests that erupted nationwide in response to the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer on Memorial Day.
The first season of “L.A.’s Finest” is currently airing on Fox.

Spectrum has opted not to order a third season of cop drama L.A.’s Finest, an offshoot from the Bad Boys movie franchise headlined by Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, I have learned.
The decision comes a little over a month after the show’s second season launched on the platform. Spectrum had no comment.
Season 2 was originally scheduled to premiere on June 8, but was pushed to September amid the George Floyd protests against police brutality. All 13 episodes were released at once on September 9 as a weekly air pattern for Season 1.
The first season of L.A.’s Finest is currently airing on Fox, which acquired the series for its fall schedule that was impacted by the pandemic-related production shutdown. It got off to a solid ratings start though the numbers have slipped since.

Spectrum Originals has delayed the season 2 premiere of “L.A.’s Finest” amid the nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism.
The “Bad Boys” spinoff was scheduled to return for its sophomore season on Monday with its first three episodes available, but has instead decided to push it back until later 2020, the network confirmed to TheWrap.
Since the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer on Memorial Day, protests have erupted nationwide — and in many international cities — in all 50 states calling for police reform. L.A.’s Finest, the female-led TV spinoff of the Bad Boys movies, will get another season on streaming platform Spectrum Originals.
L.A.’s Finest will see stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba continue their City of Angels-set buddy cop comedy for a second season.
Spectrum Originals, the Charter Communications-owned small screen platform on which L.A.’s Finest streams on demand, has officially renewed the series for Season 2. It’s a rather quick turnaround for the show – a spinoff of the Bad Boys films of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence – having only debuted on May 13, utilizing a rather unique release strategy of dropping a few episodes a week, rather than conventional strategies of weekly episodes or the Netflix full-season binge-dump. “L.A.’s Finest” isn’t just a cop show. It’s a gambit — a bet placed by cable provider Spectrum that by providing not just access to HBO and Hgtv but original programming of its own, it’ll stand out. The series, a Jerry Bruckheimer production set within the universe of his “Bad Boys” film franchise, is the beginning of a stream of on-demand Spectrum Originals programming that will also include, eventually, a comeback for “Mad About You.”
The idea of providing some added value to subscribers through original programming is a reasonable enough one (why not get in a game with so many players already?). But this particular show seems ill-suited to its format: Meant to live on an on-demand platform, this drama seems oddly unlikely to have been specifically demanded by anyone at all. Less than four years after Primary Wave, known at the time mostly for its music business, made a big push in talent management with the back-to-back acquisitions of Mark Burg’s Evolution Management and David Guillod’s Intellectual Artists Management, the company is scaling back on Hollywood representation to focus on its core music management business as well as film and TV development and production via Cathy Schulman’s Welle Entertainment.
Of the three principals of the merged Primary Wave Entertainment talent management division, Primary Wave co-CEOs Larry Mestel, Guillod and Burg, only Mestel is still there, running the company as CEO. Guillod resigned in November in the wake of sexual assault allegations. I hear Burg, who had managed Charlie Sheen for 20 years, left soon after to return to producing. A large number of the remaining Pwe managers have left in the past seven months or are in the process of leaving.

Set to premiere in 2019, the series will be first made available exclusively to Spectrum customers.

Charter Communications is stepping up its original programming activity with a series order for the former NBC drama pilot “L.A.’s Finest,” starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.
The Sony Pictures TV production, exec produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, is the first series to be greenlit by Charter, which recruited TV veteran Katherine Pope in January to spearhead the Spectrum Original Content initiative.
“Charter is excited to partner with top producers Sony, Bruckheimer and the rest of the incredible team behind and in front of the camera on our first Spectrum Original Content endeavor,” said Pope, who is Charter’s senior VP and head of original content. “Our content partnerships offer us a great opportunity to provide Spectrum customers with the dynamic, authentic and unique programming that drives value for their Spectrum subscription.”

It’s official: Charter Communications has given a 13-episode straight-to-series order to La’s Finest, the drama pilot starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba from writers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, Sony Pictures TV, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and 2.0 Entertainment. It is set to premiere in 2019 exclusively on Charter’s Spectrum as the platform’s first major original series.
Former CSI: NY showrunner Pam Veasey has come on board as executive producer/co-showrunner of the series alongside Margolis and Sonnier.
Sony TV took out the action pilot, a spinoff from the Bad Boys movie franchise, immediately after the project’s original network, NBC, surprisingly passed on it. Charter Communications quickly emerged as a likely potential home, starting talks with Sony TV just days later. With the deal in advanced stages, Sony TV has been selling La’s Finest internationally.

La’s Finest is go! Canadian broadcaster Bell Media has revealed that it has struck a deal with Sony Pictures Television for the Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union-fronted spin-off of the Bad Boys film franchise. It will air the 13-episode series on one of its specialty entertainment channels.
As Deadline reported yesterday, Sony is in serious negotiations with Charter Communications to become the U.S. home for the series after NBC passed on the $12M pilot.
The series stars Union as Syd Burnett, last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel, having left her complicated past behind to become an Lapd detective and pursue all the fun La offers. But things get a little crazy when her new partner, Nancy McKenna, played by Alba, a working mom with an equally complex past, learns that Syd’s unapologetic lifestyle might be masking a greater personal secret. These two have...

I hear talks are progressing between Charter Communications and Sony Pictures TV, and the two sides are now in serious negotiations for a series order to the studio’s La’s Finest drama pilot starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.
Sony TV took out the action pilot, a spinoff from the Bad Boys movie franchise, immediately after the project’s original network, NBC, surprisingly passed on it 20 days ago. Charter Communications quickly emerged as a likely potential home, starting talks with Sony TV just days later. A deal now appears likely. Reps for Charter and Sony TV declined comment.
With its title recognition and A-list stars, L.A.’s Finest may be used as a key launching piece in Charter Communications’s recently announced strategy to introduce high-end original content on its Spectrum cable systems. The company signaled its entrance in the original scripted series arena by signing co-production deals...

Exclusive: The La’s Finest pilot starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba might go to series after all. I hear that the studio behind the Bad Boys offshoot, Sony Pictures TV, is in talks with Charter Communications about picking up the action drama. Sources stress that talks are still preliminary and might not lead to a deal. Reps for Sony and Charter declined comment.
Sony TV, as well as the project’s other production entities, Jerry Bruckheimer Television, Primary Wave, and 2.0 Entertainment, started shopping the pilot to other networks immediately after NBC decided not to go forward in one of the most surprising passes this upfront season.
A pickup of L.A.’s Finest would be a major move in the high-end scripted series arena for Charter Communications, which recently signaled an entry into the original content space, signing deals with AMC Networks and Viacom to co-produce original series and...

Exclusive: Remember the May 2013 shocker when CBS passed on Beverly Hills Cop sequel pilot featuring Eddie Murphy? We have a similar situation this year with the Bad Boys offshoot pilot La’s Finest, toplined by the films’ Gabrielle Union and fellow movie star Jessica Alba.
NBC has opted not to go forward with the project, from Sony Pictures TV., Jerry Bruckheimer Television, Primary Wave, and 2.0 Entertainment. I hear the producers are already fielding interest in the property from other networks.
While not off the charts, La’s Finest had garnered solid buzz and is a rare marquee drama title with two diverse female leads — something we don’t have on broadcast TV. It is not entirely clear whether NBC’s decision was based on creative or business reasons (NBC had been in negotiations with Sony TV on four projects — two pilots and two current series), but the answer is likely...
