Who doesn't love Owen Wilson? In the late '90s, the blond star burst on the scene in Wes Anderson's "Bottle Rocket," snuck into big productions like "The Haunting" and "Armageddon," and then hit the big time when he teamed with Jackie Chan for the blockbuster "Shanghai-Noon" and its sequel. Since then, Wilson has expanded his portfolio with instant classics like "Zoolander," "Wedding Crashers," and "Midnight in Paris," and continues to show off his knack for lighthearted comedy in films such as "The French Dispatch," and the Marvel Disney+ series, "Loki."
Wilson even has his own animated franchise, Disney/Pixar's "Cars," in which he plays Lightning McQueen, a role he's returned to various times, including the California Adventure theme park ride. There's nothing he can't do, and his careful project selection typically ensures quality despite a small handful of duds during his nearly three-decade stay on the Hollywood A-list.

HBO Max has cooked up a slate of several classic films as well as a few newer ones arriving this January. “The Menu” (2022) arrived early in the month after releasing theatrically in November before Thanksgiving. Danny DeVito’s “Matilda” (1996) can contend with Netflix’s new movie musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book. And while Tom Hanks’ latest role “A Man Called Otto” has hit the box office, several of his films have landed at various streamers if you’re hankering for more after the tear-jearking feature film.
Hitting the sweet spot for dog movie lovers is “Marley and Me,” starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, and the animated wonder “The Book of Life” is also newly added.
Here are some of the best new movies to stream on HBO Max in January 2023.

Last Thursday, Kris Jenner appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden accompanied by her youngest daughter, Kylie Jenner.
During the show, Kris was hooked to a lie detector test and was asked some questions by both James and Kylie.
Things started playfully, and Kris was asked who her favorite child was at one point.
To everyone’s surprise, Kris admitted that it was Kylie. The technician said it was the truth and the Kylie Cosmetics CEO said she knew it.
James laughed as he showed Kylie the next question.
He asked Kris, “Did you help Kim release her sex tape?”

Kris Jenner paid a visit to “The Late Late Show with James Corden” recently, where a statement she made about daughter Kim Kardashian’s infamous sex tape with Ray J has infuriated the rapper.
Last week, Jenner was hooked up to a lie detector on Corden’s show, administered by James Grogan.

At one point, Corden asked Jenner, “Did you help Kim release her sex tape?” Jenner said she hadn’t, with Grogan revealed the polygraph results confirmed she had told the truth.
However, Ray J — who is featured in the sex tape with Kardashian — clapped back, and apparently brought receipts.

Dogs, in their rambunctious domesticated way, can lead us overly civilized humans a step or two closer to the natural world. So it’s only fitting that the best dog movies have saluted that unruly canine spirit without a lot of artificial flavoring. Hollywood’s classic dog tales, like “Old Yeller” (1957) or “Lassie Come Home” (1943), are lyrical marvels of plainspoken storytelling — primal fables of love, loss, heart, and home — and so, in its way, was the last great dog movie, “Marley & Me” (2008), which treated the title pooch of John Grogan’s memoir as a scruffy agent of canine chaos who was also, in his way, a figure of faith. That said, I’ve never had much patience for synthetic anthropomorphic dog comedies like “Beethoven” or “Benji” or “Turner & Hooch.” If I want to see a dog turned into a cartoon, I’d rather watch a cartoon.

NBC has given a put-pilot commitment to Marley & Me, a single-camera comedy that will serve as a sequel to the 2008 comedy-drama film of the same name, EW has confirmed. The film's director, David Frankel, is set to direct the pilot; Jenny Bicks will write the script. Bicks, Frankel and film producer Karen Rosenfelt will executive produce the show under the 20th Century Fox Television banner. Undeterred by the failure of Animal Practice, NBC is banking once more on the American public's obvious love for adorable animals, giving a put pilot commitment to a TV adaptation of Marley & Me. Or, seeing as the network also ordered another It Crowd remake, maybe it's just getting in on the ground floor of the sure-to-be forthcoming wave of mid-2000s nostalgia. Both versions of Marley & Me have ended with the death of the eponymous dog, and it's unclear what the story's move to a serialized medium like television means for the beloved pet's longevity. Will Marley die in May sweeps every year, only to return each September as if nothing had changed — or, as in Lost, will the show postpone Marley's fatal case of gastric dilatation volvulus until the show receives a concrete end date? Either way, John Grogan keeps getting those checks.

And the development season of film-to-tv adaptions continues. It appears that NBC may be trying to adapt another famous film for television, but this time, it doesn’t involve a beloved 1980s classic (guess they learned from what happened last time). The network has given a pilot commitment to a sequel to the 2008 film Marley & Me, which was based on John Grogan’s best-selling novel and starred Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston. The single-camera comedy TV sequel comes from Jenny Bicks (The Big C, Sex and the City) and will reportedly pick up where Gorgan’s book left off. Here’s an official description for the potential series, per The Hollywood Reporter: John (played by Owen Wilson in the film) and Jenny Grogan (Jennifer Aniston) and their two boys, now 14 and 11, have just moved back to Florida so that John can take up his newspaper column again. However, when a stray puppy…...

NBC has ordered a pilot for a proposed Marley & Me television spinoff.
Former Sex and the City and Men in Trees writer Jenny Bicks is working on a pilot that picks up from where the 2008 movie left off.
John Grogan and his wife Jenny - played by Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston in the original film - will move back to Florida, where their family finds a new stray dog on their doorstep.
The family decide to name her Marley after putting their former pet's collar on her, and soon find that she is as rambunctious as her namesake.
Marley & Me will be shot in the single-camera sitcom style, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
No announcements on who will play the roles originated by Wilson and Aniston in the movie have been made yet.

Aside from those ‘cat people’ who we speak of in hushed tones whilst wrinkling our noses at the very thought of it, everybody loves a dog. Especially movie dogs; the kind of dogs we wish came running up to us when we open the front door after a hard day’s work, rather than our significant other moaning about well… let’s face it, we weren’t listening.
Anyway, here are 10 wonderful cutie pies who we wish we could own in real life, in no particular order of course because it’s literally impossible to choose between dogs.
10. Marley From Marley & Me (2008)
This film adaptation of John Grogan’s memoir of the same name really made us want this lovable little guy. Even if he did appear to be the worst behaved dog for the majority of the film, Marley really turned things around for himself and I defy anyone...

Sad movies exist in every genre. Romance is obviously full of weepers, and plenty of dramas have enjoyed yanking your heart out and showing it to you as you stagger out of the theater. Even an action or sports movie can reduce the tough to tears if done right. ("Field of Dreams," anyone?)
But there's one little genre that seems hellbent on making us cry, and that's animal movies. They're fiendishly clever about it, too, luring you in with promises of being child-friendly, heartwarming and fun before killing off a fuzzy protagonist or two. They're worse than horror movies, because at least horror is honest about the body count.
In honor of taking the plunge (again!) with "Finding Nemo 3D," we here at NextMovie have compiled nine of the most heartbreaking animal weepers in cinematic history. Read it only if you have something soft to hug.

Chances are, if you've seen a TV lie detector test quickly escalate into an all-out melee, John Grogan provided the science that caused the spark. Grogan is a polygraph examiner who's become a regular on the TV circuit, lending his lie-detecting expertise to 'Survivor,' 'Nancy Grace,' 'Divorce Court,' 'Tool Academy,' 'Flavor of Love,' and a bevy of other shows.
In this video from the AOL You've Got series, he talks about just how accurate the lie detector test results you see on TV are, and what he's come to expect right after he delivers his results.
"Usually when we do relationship testing we'll ask the accuser to leave the room," he says. "You'll have somebody see their spouse either confess to something or fail badly on a question, and they'll come and slap or punch that person."

Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0 Chicago – “Marley & Me” is that rare, old-fashioned crowd pleaser that honestly pleases. The movie just works. Yes, it’s sentimental, melodramatic, and a bit long, but it’s completely effective and was underrated in theaters. This is going to be a movie that fans love for years to come and Fox has given their family-friendly hit a gorgeous three-disc Blu-Ray treatment.
“Marley & Me” opened with the highest Christmas day gross of all time and stayed at number one into 2009. It’s very easy to see why. This underrated dramedy directed by David Frankel (“The Devil Wears Prada”) and written by the excellent Scott Frank (“The Lookout”) and Don Roos (“The Opposite of Sex”) is moving without being manipulative and the kind of heartwarming story of average people that you don’t see that often in the era of sequels and superheroes.

The film adaptation of John Grogan’s best-selling memoir, Marley and Me, is a cute diversion for dog-lovers and old softies, but lacks the humor to compliment the depressing denouement. At the most it’s a decent romantic comedy, if only because it doesn’t dwell on a typical dating drama or a formulaic “will she or won’t she” ending.

Fox 2000 Pictures' comedy movie "Marley & Me" has broken a box office record, earning $14.5 million in ticket sales, such amount that makes it the highest grossing film to ever open on December 25. The flick, co-starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, breaks the previous record of $10.2 million set by 2001 biographical film about legendary boxing champion Muhammad Ali, titled "Ali."
Based on the best-selling book of the same title by John Grogan, "Marley & Me" tells the story of yellow Labrador dog, named Marley, adopted by Grogan, a columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer, and his wife. Their idea was to give them a taste of parenthood, but the dog proved to be a hyperactive handful. He wreaks havoc, gets kicked out of obedience school and gets even worse when the children begin to arrive, yet becomes an indispensable part of the family.
