Sex and the City put the Cosmopolitan on the map. The pink cocktail was the signature drink of Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York. Carrie even famously tried to order a Cosmo at a drive-up burger joint in Hoohokus in season 4 of the series. Soon after the ladies started ordering the drink, fans followed suit, and the drink’s popularity skyrocketed. While Carrie was a Cosmo fiend, Sarah Jessica Parker was not. In a 2021 interview, Parker admitted that she didn’t even like Cosmos during the run of the iconic series. She eventually grew to love them, but not until years after the series ended.

It may not be Hogwarts, but it carries a pedigree - and a palatial price tag. The Edinburgh house where J.K. Rowling wrote four of her seven Harry Potter novels has been sold for well over $3.6 million. The 19th-century Victorian mansion - which includes eight bedrooms, a walled garden and a detached office in the back where Rowling reportedly worked - went to an anonymous Scottish businessman, James Whitson, the real-estate agent who dealt with the property, confirms to People. Whitson told the Scotsman newspaper: "This was an iconic house in Edinburgh. … To be honest, it was a refreshing change to the normal house.

Around the time the final "Harry Potter" book was published in July, 2007, author J.K. Rowling told NBC's Meredith Vieira that she was looking forward to seeing her magical visions brought to life in the planned Harry Potter theme park.
"[The park] will be amazing because it will be a place that I can take all three of my children," she said, noting that the park and the remaining Potter movies were welcome reminders that "the world hasn't ended for me. So even though the books are done, I feel like I still have a connection to Harry's world."
Five years, two movies, an interactive online world and (of course) a theme park later, it seems that Rowling -- whose first book for adults will be released at the end of September -- is still intent on keeping the magic of Potter alive for her kids. The author's husband, Dr. Neil Murray (a...

Harry Potter author Jk Rowling has revealed plans to build giant £150,000 Hogwarts-esque treehouses at her home in Edinburgh. The writer's millionaire husband Dr Neil Murray has applied for planning permission to build the two structures for their children David, 9, Mackenzie, 7, and her 18-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, Jessica. Rowling's treehouses will be built on wooden stilts at a height of 40ft in the garden of her mansion in Barnton, BBC News reports. The buildings - which feature spiral staircases, turrets, balconies, nature boxes and a rope (more)...

Evidence given to the Leveson inquiry last week appalled many veteran journalists. Among them was John Dale - a former national newspaper reporter and magazine editor - who wrote on the gentlemenranters site of "journalistic corruption and debasement" that "shamed Fleet Street."
Another hardened old hand, Jim Cassidy, was disgusted too. As the editor of two red-tops - the Glasgow-based Sunday Mail and, briefly, the Sunday Mirror - he knows the business from the inside.
I am pleased to act as host to his passionate response to the revelations of the first week's hearings...

London — Writer J.K. Rowling and actress Sienna Miller gave a London courtroom a vivid picture on Thursday of the anxiety, anger and fear produced by living in the glare of Britain's tabloid media, describing how press intrusion made them feel like prisoners in their own homes.
The creator of boy wizard Harry Potter told Britain's media ethics inquiry that having journalists camped on her doorstep was "like being under siege and like being a hostage." Miller said years of car chases, midnight pursuits and intimate revelations had left her feeling violated, paranoid and anxious.
"The attitude seems to be absolutely cavalier," Rowling said. "You're famous, you're asking for it."
The pair were among a diverse cast of witnesses – Hollywood star Hugh Grant, a former soccer player, a former aide to supermodel Elle Macpherson and the parents of missing and murdered children – who have described how becoming the focus of Britain's...

London, August 2: Harry Potter author Jk Rowling, who brought up her daughter Jessie all alone until she married Dr. Neil Murray, has discovered on a TV show that her family tree is full of single mums.
She found out in BBC's 'Who Do You Think You Are?' that her great-grand mother Lizzie, great-great-grandmother Salome and great-great-great grandmother Christine - all brought up their kids as lone mothers after splitting from their respective husbands.
"There's a definite parallel here," the Sun quoted Rowling, 46, as saying.
"Twenty years ago, I was very skint. And then not long after that, I.

Fans, rejoice - J.K. Rowling offered a bit of hope on Friday that, perhaps, the final Harry Potter story has yet to be told. "I could definitely write an eighth, ninth, tenth," the celebrated author, 45, told Oprah Winfrey during an interview scheduled to air Friday. "I'm not going to say I won't. I don't think I will … I feel I am done, but you never know." Speaking in Edinburgh, where the interview took place, Rowling said she felt something of a loss upon finishing the saga's last installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. "It was a bereavement," she said.

Unlike her prim alter ego, Emma Watson knows how to throw a party. The actress, 20, who plays straight-laced Hermione Granger in the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise, hosted a dinner at her home in England recently as filming on the series drew to a close. "The last week of filming Emma had a dinner at her place, and we spoke about the best moments of filming, our secret crushes on set - all kinds of random questions," says James Phelps, who plays mischievous Fred Weasley in the movies. "But all the answers to these questions will stay in that room!" Related:...

Latest: Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has won a court battle to ban the publication of pictures of her son David when he was 18 months old.
The 42-year-old alleged the boy's privacy rights had been infringed by the long-lens shots taken in Edinburgh, Scotland by Big Pictures photo agency in 2004, but lost a legal battle in London's High Court last year.
Rowling took the case to the Court of Appeal, because she wanted her children to grow up "free from unwarranted intrusions into their privacy". A judge ruled on Tuesday there was an infringement of her privacy.
Judge Sir Anthony Clarke told the court, "If a child of parents who are not in the public eye could reasonably expect not to have photographs of him published in the media, so too should the child of a famous parent.
"In our opinion, it is at least arguable that a child of 'ordinary' parents could reasonably expect that the press would not target him and publish photographs of him."
Rowling and her husband, Dr Neil Murray, released a statement, saying, "We understand and accept that with the success of Harry Potter there will be a measure of legitimate media and public interest in Jo's professional activities and appearances.
"However, we have striven to give our children a normal family life outside the media spotlight.
"We are immensely grateful to the Court for giving our children protection from covert, unauthorised photography; this ruling will make an immediate and material difference to their lives."...
