Suzy Eddie Izzard and Ed Speleers (Downton Abbey) are among the actors who have joined the supporting cast of Midas Man, the feature biopic of Beatles Manager Brian Epstein.
In the pic, Izzard portrays British music promoter Allan Williams, famously known as “The Man Who Gave Away The Beatles,” while Ed Speleers is Tex Ellington, Epstein’s love interest. Other additions include Darci Shaw (The Colour Room), who plays singer Cilla Black, and Milo Parker (Mr. Holmes) is Epstein’s longtime assistant, Alastair Taylor.
Previous cast attached to the project included actors Lukas Gage, Bill Milner, and Rosie Day. We understand the changes were due to scheduling issues because of delays to production following multiple creative changes to the pic. Exclusive: It’s been a long and winding road but Beatles manager movie Midas Man has finally reached post-production having recently taken on a third director to get it over the line.
UK director Joe Stephenson (Doctor Jekyll) quietly took the reins earlier this year from previous filmmaker Sara Sugarman (Vinyl) who left after what sources described to us as creative differences and scheduling issues.
Sugarman herself took over in late 2021 from filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund (Polar) who also left during shoot after not seeing eye to eye with producers.
The Queen’s Gambit actor Jacob Fortune-Lloyd stars in the biopic as The Beatles manager Brian Epstein. Also starring are Emily Watson, Eddie Marsan, Lukas Gage, Bill Milner, Rosie Day as Cilla Black and Jay Leno as Ed Sullivan.

Nazi ghouls have figured in plenty of horror movies, whether preserved (1966’s “The Frozen Dead”), newly bioengineered (1978’s “The Boys from Brazil”) or zombiefied (too many to list). Edging close to that terrain, “Burial” revolves around a corpse — the corpse, as far as WWII’s end was concerned — that does not reanimate or otherwise come “back to life,” but poses a grave threat nonetheless.
Not-quite-horror despite its macabre theme and mood, this sophomore directorial feature for Ben Parker is a handsomely produced period thriller that delivers in terms of action and atmospherics, even if his somewhat convoluted story doesn’t maximally pay off. IFC Midnight is releasing the Estonia-shot U.K. production to limited U.S. theaters and on-demand platforms Sept. 2.
A framing device set in 1991 London has elderly Anna disturbed one night by an intruder. No helpless spinster, she soon has the skinhead-looking young perp (David Alexander) cuffed to her radiator.

"Look around you. There's no one here... No one cares. The war is over." IFC Midnight has revealed the official trailer for a WWII thriller titled Burial, from filmmaker Ben Parker (The Chamber). This should've shown up at some festivals before opening, but it hasn't yet, and will be heading straight to theaters (and VOD) in early September if anyone is curious about watching anyway. Set during the last days of WWII, a band of Russian soldiers tasked with transporting Hitler's remains out of Germany are ambushed by Nazi "Wehrwolf" fighters. They must ensure their "cargo" doesn’t fall into the hands of those who would see it buried, in order to hide the truth forever. Starring Charlotte Vega, Barry Ward, Dan Renton Skinner, Bill Milner, Harriet Walter, and Tom Felton. This plays much more like a horror about ghosts in the forests than a thriller about Hitler's remains, which is fine,...

Exclusive: Filming on Beatles manager movie Midas Man did not restart last month as planned.
The plan was for filming to recommence in late November but the restart has been pushed to late January as new director Sara Sugarman gets acclimatized and the production has a planned pause over Christmas. The film’s original director Jonas Akerlund left the project in mid-November. Some of the original crew also left.
The independent movie will have had a three-month break from filming by the time cameras roll again and multiple people working on the film have now expressed concern to us about the project’s funding. We understand the feature has not been bonded.
However, the production tells us there are no funding or scheduling issues: “There is no delay. Midas Man filming remains very much on schedule to complete the movie. The new production team is now on board. U.S.

Exclusive: Jay Leno is set to make a rare feature appearance in Midas Man — the film about Beatles manager Brian Epstein — playing another celebrated TV personality: Ed Sullivan.
The former Tonight Show host last appeared in a live-action movie as a character other than himself way back in the ’90s. He has voiced a number of animations, however, and small-screen roles include ABC’s Last Man Standing.
Midas Man, currently in production, stars The Queen’s Gambit‘s Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as the late Beatles manager. The project charts Epstein’s role in the creative explosion of the 1960s and his sizable influence on pop music.
The Fab Four made several appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, including three in February 1964 that were among their first appearances in front of an American audience. Their first appearance, on February 9, was seen by a then-record 73 million viewers and came to be regarded as a...

There’s no rule that says Magneto can’t be played in an X-Men movie by an American, but so far, the Master of Magnetism has been portrayed solely by talent from outside the United States. The Shakespearean gravitas of Ian McKellen was the perfect fit for the heightened realism of Bryan Singer’s first installment, and the legendary actor went on to make the role his own.
German-born Irishman Michael Fassbender, meanwhile, was a more than adequate replacement, although his accent in First Class veered all over the place before he settled on a middle ground which paid tribute to his predecessor without devolving into a straight-up McKellen impression. Even the youngsters who played Magneto in flashbacks hailed from outside the U.S., with Canadian Brett Morris appearing in X-Men‘s haunting prologue, while English child actor Bill Milner portrayed the 12 year-old version of Erik Lensherr in Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 effort.

"This is their land - they know every inch of it, you do not." Samuel Goldwyn Films has unveiled the first official trailer for Waiting for the Barbarians, which initially premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year (and at the Zurich & London Film Festivals). The film marks the first English-language feature made by acclaimed, award-winning Colombia filmmaker Ciro Guerra (of both Embrace of the Serpent and Birds of Passage). Adapted from a novel by J.M. Coetzee, the vague story is about a Magistrate working in a distant outpost who begins to question his loyalty to the "empire" when an asshole Colonel shows up demanding changes. It's a metaphorically vague story that represents colonialism and white men controlling the world. It was filmed in Morocco, but a location is never named. Mark Rylance stars as the Magistrate, along with Johnny Depp, Robert Pattinson, Gana Bayarsaikhan, Greta Scacchi, David Dencik, Sam Reid,...

As Rambo: Last Blood arrives on the big screen, Mark revisits Garth Jennings’ Son Of Rambow, an altogether gentler First Blood spin-off…
Placed next to First Blood and the unexpectedly long-lived Rambo franchise, Garth Jennings’ Son of Rambow doesn't seem so odd. More than 30 years after the original adaptation of David Morrell’s novel, we’re now looking at Last Blood, or Rambo No. 5, as Lou Bega might have called it. Although the original film represents some of Sylvester Stallone's best acting work, it doesn't necessarily have “action franchise” written all over it.
With that in mind, it’s not so odd that a family-friendly British comedy would position two 12-year-olds in 1980s Hertfordshire as the makers of an unofficial sequel. Released in 2007, Jennings’ film is an ode to how we interact with films as youngsters--specifically with a film the characters are definitely too young to see.

Netflix has released a new thrilling trailer for director Gareth Evans‘ new film Apostle and it as you’ll see it ramps up the horrific intensity! The trailer comes along with crazy new footage mixed in with the reviews that critics have been giving it. I’m always up for a bone-chilling horror thriller, and this one looks like it’s going to deliver!
Evans is the same director who brought us The Raid films. Apostle is definitely going to give us something very different and very crazy. The movie stars Dan Stevens and it’s been described as “a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it.” Here’s the synopsis for the movie:
London, 1905. Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined...

Anyone familiar with the brutal martial showdowns of Indonesian thriller “The Raid: Redemption” and its sequel will go into “Apostle” expecting the wrong movie. In this gnarly occult thriller set on an island full of devious people in 1902, writer-director Gareth Evans’ Netflix thriller trades the intensity of hand-to-hand combat for a ludicrous mishmash of gore, espionage, estranged family dynamics, and half-formed supernatural conceits. At over two hours, Evans demonstrates a formidable commitment to seeing this unseemly formula through, with the sort of mixed results of a visionary filmmaker launching into unwieldy terrain. The visceral intensity is there, delivered in shocking bursts of sudden twists not unlike the jarring fisticuffs that dominated “The Raid,” but it tends to dangle with a grotesque emptiness at odds with the material.
At first, “Apostle” sets the stage for a daring rescue mission. Thomas Richardson, the estranged son of a wealthy British family, gets recruited...

Gareth Evans’ Apostle is a slow-burn detour around the director’s bruiser action sensibilities (The Raid franchise). More a feature reimagining of “Safe Haven,” that wicked cultist V/H/S/2 segment Evans co-directed with Indonesia’s Timo Tjahjanto, with a heavy emphasis on “slow-burn.” At 129 minutes, Evans explores a secluded hideaway settled by escaped “traitors” and overseen by a female goddess. Themes toy with sacrifice, blood donation, and a mother’s nurturing strength. It’s at times terrifying, at times plodding, but altogether a chill-worthy tale of revenge, discovery, and blind devotion to steadfast faith (that I wish Netflix would release in theaters because wow does the cinematography impress).
Dan Stevens stars as Thomas Richardson, an ex-priest and brother who must invade a naturalist cult to save his kidnapped sister. All Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen) wants is a ransom payday from Thomas’ father, but the furious son is not there to pay off ill deeds.

Though Dan Stevens recently made an impact on the big screen with Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast – a lucrative reimagining of the fairytale classic that ended up being a box office juggernaut – the actor’s next project couldn’t be more different.
It’s called Apostle, and comes to us from Welsh director Gareth Evans. If that name sounds familiar, it should. After all, Evans is the creative genius behind hardboiled action thriller The Raid and its divisive sequel, and after flirting with the possibility of potentially closing out the trilogy, he instead switched gears and decided to make this upcoming thriller, which is headed to Netflix next month and just premiered its first trailer today.

"Your eyes... they've seen things. Who are you...?" Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Gareth Evans' new film Apostle, his follow-up and latest film since making The Raid and The Raid 2, and the V/H/S/2 segment. Apostle is set to premiere at Fantastic Fest, then the Sitges Film Festival over the next month before arriving on Netflix. Set in 1905, the film is about a man who travels to a remote island to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a mysterious religious cult demanding a ransom for her safe return. It soon becomes clear that the cult will rue the day it baited this man, as he digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built. Starring Dan Stevens, Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, Michael Sheen, Kristine Froseth, Bill Milner, Elen Rhys, and Annes Elwy. This looks super creepy and twisted, extra intense and ultra violent,...

The movie has been described as “a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it.”
Now today, we have our first footage from the film in a very brief teaser that was shared by Evans. It may only feature a few snippets of footage but that footage is pretty unsettling.
The director also announced that we’ll be getting a full trailer for the film to enjoy on September 17th. Just in case you need a reminder of what this movie is about, here’s the synopsis:

Gothic romance, tortured siblings and a needlessly huge-’n’-haunted manor house hidden right out in the sticks; you can bet your lucky stars it’s another period-set Irish horror. The gothic has always been the cornerstone and mainstay of horror film: that place that is supposed to be the most secure and welcoming - one's home - is suddenly dangerous and uninviting. Irish director Brian O'Malley (Let Us Prey) returns to these horror roots for an update on gothic tropes with a healthy infusion of social-historic drama. Twin siblings Rachel (Charlotte Vega) and Edward (Bill Milner) live in an isolated mansion in the Irish countryside (the ancestral home of their English forebearers who arrived from the UK). They have to follow certain rules in order to keep strange monsters at bay. Reaching their 18th birthday, Rachel starts to chafe against this confinement; on top of this, their solicitor Bermingham (David Bradley) says they are...

Epic Pictures has unveiled a new official trailer for the Irish gothic horror film called The Lodgers, following up the first trailer that debuted last year when this film was premiering at film festivals in the fall. Set in 1920s, the story is about twins Rachel and Edward who share a strange existence in their crumbling family estate. Each night, the property becomes the domain of a sinister presence ("The Lodgers") who enforces three rules upon the twins: they must be in bed by midnight; they may not permit an outsider past the threshold; if one attempts to escape, the life of the other is placed in jeopardy. Sounds pretty creepy. Starring Charlotte Vega, Bill Milner, David Bradley, and Eugene Simon. This looks like a solid thriller and it got some good reviews at the festivals. Might be worth a watch.
