- Director
- Animation Department
Born and raised in Taichung, Taiwan and currently living in Los Angeles, CA, Daisy Yu-Chuan Lin is a multi-faceted filmmaker and producer who specializes on projects that leverage her understanding of both Chinese and Western cultures. Currently, she serves as creative producer for Zoetrope Productions, which provides graphic design, animation, motion graphic, production management/fixing, social media marketing, public relations, English-Mandarin copy writing and translation services.
As an artist and filmmaker, Lin is deeply influenced by Chinese culture and eastern philosophy. In her award-winning film, Out on a Limb, she animates traditional Chinese ink paintings to create an atmosphere based on the paintings of Xia Guei from the Song Dynasty. The film's story reflects a culture of upholding traditions and fulfilling expectations. Lin specifically chooses to keep the film non-verbal in consideration of how Chinese communication is more about subtle actions than what is verbally spoken aloud.
The majority of Lin's independent works are animated and documentary films, which have screened in film festivals in Taiwan, Poland and Brazil. She has participated on both sides of film festivals - as a contributing artist and as part of the producing team. She has served as program director, project coordinator and event planner for several international film festivals and organizations.
Apart from her own independent film-making, she also worked as producer, director, production fixer/location manager, gaffer, art director and costume designer for independent films and live-action productions in both Taiwan and the United States. Her most recent feature production experience include the animated title sequence for "Robin Hood" (Universal, 2010), the animated feature "9" (Focus Films, 2009), and the international documentary production "Search for Brodsky" (Shanghai/Japan/Los Angeles/Taiwan, 2009).
Lin graduated with a BFA in the Motion Picture Production Program from National Taiwan University of Arts. She moved to the U.S. and received a MFA in Animation Production at UCLA School of Theater, Film, Television and New Media. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the ukulele and traveling.
Brought up in the East and well immersed in the west, Lin would like to utilize her different skill sets, multi-lingual ability, and numerous work experiences in pursuit of art and creative projects on international productions.
