So, Leighton Meester and Jeremy Strong have joined the cast of David Dobkin‘s upcoming drama The Judge? Not bad at all, they will join previously announced Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, Vincent D’Onofrio, Billy Bob Thornton and Vera Farmiga and that, my friends, is what we call – an awesome cast! Dobkin will direct the whole thing from a script written by Nick Schenk and Bill Dubuque, and as we previously reported, the movie will revolve around: …a big-city lawyer who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town’s judge, is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and...

The great Frank Langella stars in this fusion of drama, comedy and sci-fi. Here's Sarah's review of the charming, poignant Robot & Frank...
Most of us, if we’re honest, probably quite fancy the idea of a robot butler. Ever since The Jetsons, pop culture has been painting a picture of the future that involves cybernetic organisms taking care of the kinds of menial tasks we can’t really be bothered to do ourselves. In reality, we’re not quite there yet, but Robot & Frank does a convincing job of portraying a near-future world in which robots have become a completely normal part of everyday life.
The titular Frank is an ex-cat burglar whose memory is failing. Since his adult children are off living their own lives and can’t care for him, his son decides a new-fangled off-brand Asimo would make the perfect care assistant.

Robot And Frank
Stars: Peter Sarsgaard, Frank Langella, Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, Liv Tyler, Jeremy Strong | Written by Christopher D. Ford | Directed by Jake Schreier
Whimsy can be a tricky thing to get right in the movies. When aiming for the whimsical, it can be all too easy to slip in unwatchable triteness or twee-ness. Just look at any number of the ‘quirky’, cutesy indie rom-coms, usually starring Zooey Deschanel. But when a film pulls off being a bit eccentric, then they’re often very good.
Case in point? Robot and Frank, the debut feature from director Jake Schreier. The film is set in the near-future and stars Frank Langella as the titular Frank, an old man whose memory has started to fail him. In frustration, his son, James Marsden, buys him a robot helper to look after him and give him a structured daily routine. Being a grumpy old so-and-so,...

Abraham Lincoln was a hell of a president, and this year he's being treated as such. In 2012 alone he's had two movies dedicated to his life. The first, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," was a mostly fictional account (I think) about the president's tireless campaign against undead bloodsuckers. The second, Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" (opening wide this week), takes a more factual approach to his life, focusing on the last four months of his presidency and his attempts to get the thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution ratified. As far as defining moments in the American character go, few are as important as this. But is this biographical tale, anchored by a lead performance by Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role, a thrilling dip into the past or a really long History Channel special? Let's find out. Pro: Daniel Day-Lewis Yes, his Lincoln voice is sort of weird, but considering the amount...

Chicago – Frank’s world is fading before his eyes. With his wife gone and his children all grown up, Frank lives a reclusive existence, though he doesn’t seem to be in particular need of company. His memory may be fading, but his instincts as a retired cat burglar are still ever-present. He can’t helping stuffing a few soap figurines into his pockets while casually browsing through a store.

This is a plum role for Frank Langella, the wonderfully understated actor capable of projecting a sly intelligence even in his most delusional state. There are echoes here of Leonard Schiller, the aging novelist Langella played in 2007’s woefully overlooked treasure, “Starting Out in the Evening,” in which he found enriching companionship in the unlikeliest of forms. Yet in Jake Schreier’s Sundance prizewinner, “Robot & Frank,” Langella is paired with a far more unusual screen partner.

We've seen a few photos of Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln on the set of of Steven Spielberg's historical film project Linclon. Today, thanks to Entertainment Weekly we bring you your first official look of the actor as the 16th President of the United States, and he looks fantastic!
The movie is based on the novel Team of Rivals, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. Tony Kushner wrote the script for the film, which will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.
Regarding the photo above, Spielberg said that Day-Lewis...
...captures not just the likeness of the 16th U.S. president, but also the intangible, pensive quality that made him a great leader. Lincoln had a very, very complicated – and at the same time, extremely clear — inner life.

In coming off his well-received feature debut, Ceremony, it’s been reported that Max Winkler will team with his old (new, technically) producer, Matt Spicer, and get down to scribing The Coward, a recently-staged production that featured Jeremy Strong (Lincoln) and Kristen Schaal. Winkler will, in addition to co-writing, direct, while Spicer is on executive producing duties; credits-wise, there isn’t a whole word of change between their first and second collaborations. [Deadline]
Here’s how Lincoln Center summarizes the play:
“The Coward is a new comedy set in 18th century England. A cowardly young gentleman named Lucidus (Jeremy Strong) initiates a pistol duel then finds he can’t go through with it. So he hires a common criminal (Christopher Evan Welch) to fight in his place, only to have the scoundrel make a bloody mess of things. As duel follows duel with many shots fired, this coward finds his reputation growing beyond his wildest expectations.

Some movies are just so weird that they manage to slip through the cracks in the armor and find their way into your heart. Robot & Frank is one of those films.
Frank is an old guy that seems to have been left behind when the world moved forward, and his son is too busy with his own life to look after dear, old dad so he gets a robot to take care of his responsibilities. At this point it seems like a good time to roll your eyes and wonder how you got suckered into seeing this film. But then, something amazing happens.
The thing about old people that most people forget is that they have histories, and Frank has a whopper. He used to be a thief, and the smug know-it-all, take-everything-for-granted attitudes of the young people around him sparks his old passion. Of course, Frank needs an accomplice...

Here's our first look at what Daniel Day-Lewis will look like as Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's long awaited Lincoln film, and holy crap! I was excited as hell when I first heard Day-Lewis was cast in the role on Lincoln, there's was no doubt he would bring an incredible performance, but seeing him in this image gives me freakin' goosebumps! I'm completely floored by how much he looks like Lincoln in this picture. He's not even in costume! He's just eating lunch channeling the spirit of Lincoln! It was previously reported that that Day-Lewis “hasn’t broken his Lincoln accent since March” and and that he will have the the "high-pitched tone Lincoln is infamous for."
What do you all think of Day-Lewis' Lincoln look?
Lincoln is being directed by Stephen Spielberg and stars will chronicle Lincoln's efforts to abolish slavery and end the civil war.

The massive cast of Steven Spielberg's Lincoln has been increased by one. Jackie Earle Haley will play Alexander Stephens, vice president of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Haley bears more than a slight resemblance to Stephens, and I'm happy to see the actor cast in a prestige picture. I'm hoping the role won't be the boilerplate antagonist type. Stephens was noted for the Cornerstone Speech, delivered prior to the Civil War, in 1961 in Savannah, Ga.: Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition. And yet prior to a life in politics, Stephens made a name for himself as an attorney who successfully defended the wrongly accused; one frequently cited case saw...

Chris Evans suited up last night to attend the NYC premiere of his movie Puncture. In the film, which opens in limited release on Friday Sept. 23, Chris stars as a drug-addicted lawyer who takes on a medical-industry conspiracy in the story based on real-life incidents - check out a preview of Chris Evans in Puncture. It's a role that couldn't be more different than his Captain America. Chris spoke about his work in both the legal drama and Marvel series while on the printed carpet. He's been in the Big Apple rocking the superhero get-up shooting The Avengers, and production actually wrapped a few days ago. Chris told us yesterday that he and cast-mates like Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey, Jr. celebrated by having a big dinner. Celebrating was also in store for Chris last night, when he and Puncture directors Adam and Mark Kassen retired to the penthouse at...

Director Steven Spielberg has added yet another great actor to the cast of his long awaited Lincoln film project. Pushing Daisies star Lee Pace is the latest actor to join the film. He will be playing "opportunistic New York City mayor Fernando Wood, a prominent early supporter of the Confederate cause. The mayor traded frequent correspondence with President Lincoln." Pace will play this character before he heads out to New Zealand to play the Elven King Thranduil in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I enjoy watching Pace in the films and shows that he's been in, and he makes a great addition to the cast.

The latest to join Steven Spielberg's Lincoln is Lee Pace, the Pushing Daisies vet who led the cast of Tarsem's The Fall, has survived the Twilight series and will be seen at the end of next year playing Elven King Thranduil in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Before he goes to New Zealand to work with Peter Jackson, however, the actor will play one-time New York City mayor Fernando Wood, an early Confederate supporter. A bit more info on his character and a recap of the rest of the already-massive Lincoln cast is after the break. Fernando Wood, a one-time New York mayor and former Congressman was elected to his second New York mayoral term in 1860, and in 1861 suggested that New York secede to become a 'free city,' the better to continue cotton trade with the Confederacy. That obviously didn't happen, but it wasn't the death of his political career.

There has been a flurry of activity in the casting department for the cleverly titled independent drama Robot and Frank, which Jake Schreier will direct from an original screenplay by Christopher Ford. Earlier in the week, Variety reported that Liev Schreiber, Jeremy Strong and Liv Tyler had been cast in a picture that already had lured two heavy hitters in Frank Langella and Susan Sarandon. Next, the trade added that James Marsden has agreed to join the ensemble, and would be playing the role of one of Langella.s sons. (Unfortunately, unlike in Richard Kelly's The Box, it.s unlikely Langella will once again present Marsden.s character with a box, a button, and a life-changing offer.) We.re still trying to piece together exactly what Schreier.s film is all about, though, because the trade magazine.s accounts are wildly different. Variety initially suggested that the story would...

Looks like we'll see something of an "Avengers" throwdown on the set of "Bourne Legacy."
Edward Norton, who previously played Bruce Banner in Marvel's "Incredible Hulk," is in negotiations to join the Matt Damon-less continuation of the "Bourne" franchise as the film's antagonist. He'll star opposite leading man Jeremy Renner, cast as Hawkeye in "Avengers," giving the two actors a chance to slug it out on the big-screen, as they won't have that opportunity in Marvel's superhero team-up movie; Norton was famously booted from the Hulk role, with Mark Ruffalo coming in to take his place.
Get the rest of today's casting news past the jump, including new additions to "Rock of Ages" and a brand new passion project from "Bridesmaids" star Kristen Wiig!

Frank Langella, Jeremy Strong & Susan Sarandon Also On Board If a cast that includes Liev Schreiber, Liv Tyler, Frank Langella, James Marsden and Susan Sarandon doesn’t get you excited for the sci-fi influenced indie “Robot and Frank,” perhaps it’s time to check your own wiring.
