Sydney Sweeney‘s second film of 2024 is finally here, let’s hope that it doesn’t turn into a disaster like the first one. Produced by Sweeney herself, Immaculate is a psychological horror film and it follows the story of a young nun who joins a convent in the Italian countryside. Her quiet life quickly turns into a nightmare because of the horrific secrets hidden in the convent. Directed by Michael Mohan, Immaculate also stars Simona Tabasco, Benedetta Porcaroli, and Álvaro Morte. So, if you loved Sweeney’s horror film here are some similar movies you should check out next.
The Convent
Co-written and directed by Paul Hyett, the 2018 film British horror film titled The Convent gives a similar atmosphere to Sweeney’s Immaculate. The Convent tells us the story of a group of young women seeking refuge from the turmoil of World War II in an isolated convent in the countryside.

We didn’t catch word of this when it happened, but it has been revealed that short filmmaker Adam Cosco recently filed a copyright and breach of contract lawsuit against Malignant director James Wan and his wife Ingrid Bisu, claiming the film plagiarized a screenplay he had written called Little Brother. Thankfully, the details are the lawsuit are just now coming to light because the case has been settled.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cosco claimed that Ryan Turek of Blumhouse had access to his Little Brother script and passed it over to Wan, who then used it as the basis for Malignant. Wan denied ever receiving or reading the script, but the lawsuit pointed out that there were several similarities between the two works. The complaint pointed out that “both screenplays feature a twist that the protagonist has her twin brother absorbed inside her in the form of a malignant tumor,...

James Wan’s Atomic Monster has settled a copyright and breach of contract lawsuit from a writer who accused the prolific horror movie producer of ripping off his screenplay to make Malignant.
Adam Cosco on Sunday moved to dismiss the case after reaching a deal to resolve the lawsuit. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Cosco, a writer and director on several short films, sued in 2022, claiming that his screenplay for Little Brother was plagiarized. He alleged that Wan, who wrote and directed Malignant, got his work through Ryan Turek, vice president of feature film development at Blumhouse who has collaborated with the horror director on projects.

James Wan is “safe and on the mend,” after being rushed to the ER earlier this week, his wife Ingrid Bisu said in an Instagram story on his account.
“It has been an extremely rough and scary couple of days and nights,” Bisu wrote on Thursday, before going on to thank the staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
“You never want to rush to the ER in the middle of the night and then have to stay in the hospital. Cedars Sinai is truly the best!! The best doctors, nurses, technicians, just the most wonderful people. James is safe now and on the mend,” she said in a captioned photo of Wan sitting up in a hospital bed, which you can see below.

Malignant (watch it Here) is your worst nightmare. Whenever the mood strikes and I’m looking for a spooky, atmospheric midnight movie to deliver on the thrills and chills, I’ll turn to Malignant to satisfy the craving. It’s a movie that showcases every one of James Wan’s directorial sensibilities and combines what we love about of each of his films. It’s got the sleepy and somber look of Insidious, the cold and foggy lighting of Dead Silence and the utter brutality of Saw– while also giving us the incredible cinematography and unsettling horror of The Conjuring. There’s a specific feeling that Malignant evokes which makes you as intrigued as you are afraid. A specific “sleep walking through your...

Exclusive: James Wan’s Atomic Monster has teamed with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios on Concrete Jungle, an urban nature docuseries.
Based on an original idea from Wan and Ingrid Bisu, Concrete Jungle is described as “not your typical natural history show”. It follows the secret lives of urban animals – food foraging and hunting, dating and mating habits, internal clashes and turf wars with other species — and these aren’t the traditional, majestic animals from exotic, picturesque places like the African savanna or South Asian jungles.
Per the description, it “stars grungy, hardened, and clever critters abiding in the gritty Concrete Jungles of America, from bobcats to crows to coyotes to squirrels and more. Taking a darker, and also comedic perspective, the series will track the unexpected lives of these local animals as they live below us, above us, in our backyards and even in our walls,...

Thanks to strong reviews, a buzzy trailer and young fans celebrating the film on TikTok, “M3GAN” is about to top 100 million worldwide. The Gerard Johnstone-directed film was sold as yet another horror team-up between Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, with both moguls now famous enough among horror fans for such a pitch to qualify as akin to Steven Spielberg and George Lucas uniting for “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
The film’s not-so-secret weapon, however, is its screenwriter Akela Cooper. The self-professed genre nerd isn’t yet a household name, but she may be on her way to becoming one.
Cooper took time last week to speak with TheWrap, discussing the origins of “M3GAN,” trimming the initially R-rated film to a PG-13 and inserting her parents into the “Star Trek” universe. Most importantly, she answered tough questions about the biggest plot hole in her 2018 slasher romp “Hell Fest.

The horror fandom is one of the most dedicated and passionate cultural communities in existence, with countless conventions, festivals, and celebrations happening year-round — all connected by the mutual appreciation for frightful films. Some may go so far as to call the horror fandom a "family," but in the case of two of horror's most promising young actors, that description is literal. Madeleine and Violet McGraw are both still in their adolescent years, but have given performances in horror films that some adult actors could only dream of pulling off. Oftentimes, memorable horror performances from children are rooted in the "killer kid" subgenre, but for the McGraw sisters, the young performers both shine as hero protagonists.

If you look at James Wan's career since the beginning, it's impressive how far he has come in a relatively short time. A horror maestro, most now know the director for his work on "The Conjuring" universe. The frightful film franchise started out focusing on the paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren, before expanding to cover all the supernatural entities that have been directly or indirectly involved in the Warrens' lives.
If they didn't know Wan from his work on that IP, most audiences today may associate him now with the balls-to-the-wall horror film "Malignant." The movie with a shocking twist ruled the internet for months after its release last year, producing memes focusing on the villainous Gabriel. A horror film that was fun and didn't take itself seriously was just what horror audiences needed, and Wan and his wife, Ingrid Bisu, delivered.

With the recent trailer release of "M3GAN," which features many outrageous moments that have already been gif-ed and meme-ed many times over, another movie is back in the discussion ring. We're talking about "Malignant." It's been a little over a year since "Malignant" was released, and its balls-to-the-wall energy and jaw-dropping twist still have both horror and non-horror fans shooketh.
Spoilers ahead! In the third act of "Malignant," audiences learned that Madison (Annabelle Wallis) has a premature twin still fused to her body. Named Gabriel, he is the one responsible for all the violent things happening in the film after the incident with her boyfriend in the first act of the film. His dramatic reveal, though, and subsequent slaughter scene set in the police station still live rent-free in people's minds. Who can blame them? It was well-executed.

From the moment I clicked play on the "M3GAN" trailer, I knew I was going to fall in love with her. And I did — she's caring, compelling, and downright creepy. But there's a good reason why you're so unsettled when you watch the first trailer for the new scary doll film: It is the product of a true horror dream team behind the camera.
The horror movie "M3GAN" follows a young girl (Violet McGraw) who was recently orphaned and taken in by her aunt (Allison Williams), who works in technology. In an effort to make the girl feel more at home and brighten her spirits in the aftermath of tragedy, Williams' character takes the girl with her to work one day and introduces her to her latest project: M3gan, an android doll designed to make sure a child never feels left out or sad again. This article contains spoilers for "Malignant" and "Barbarian."
I went into "Barbarian" knowing nothing about the film beyond its logline and main cast. Dear reader, believe me when I tell you it was the best way possible to enjoy writer and director Zach Cregger's horror movie, a subversive take on the genre where the red herrings and misdirection are virtually indistinguishable from the actual foreshadowing. I would say I can't remember the last time a film took me on such a wild and unpredictable ride, but that isn't true. It was almost exactly a year to the day ago when the gonzo, go-for-broke swing that is James Wan's "Malignant" came out.
Both "Malignant" and "Barbarian" center on people who, when the films begin, are stuck in toxic situations. In "Malignant," Annabelle Wallis plays Madison, a pregnant woman who has had multiple miscarriages and is married to an abusive husband.

When most people imagine a movie monster, they probably think of one of horror's iconic creatures: a zombie lurching in a graveyard, a vampire hunting its prey, a werewolf transforming in the moonlight. But even the classics occasionally get old. Over the years, horror films have become more adventurous with their premises, expanding the concept of what a "monster" is and can be in cinema.
Maybe the monster is a masked human being with homicidal impulses. Sometimes monsters are personifications of concepts -- like grief, rage, or the fear of losing touch with reality. Evil gingerbread cookies, a rampaging tire, or a carnivorous bed can appear on the screen. There have been some weird horror movie monsters. Lately, filmmakers seem ready to shock and surprise audiences by subverting our expectations. Grab your popcorn, be wary of incoming spoilers, and get ready to be appalled, delighted, and terrified. "Malignant," the latest horror flick from James Wan, was released last week and it rightfully generated a great deal of conversation online, largely thanks to that totally bonkers ending. The latest horror flick from director James Wan, Malignant is a bizarre mixture of the brilliant and the terrible. It’s hard to think of a comparable film that hits both the highs and the lows that Malignant does. As a result, it’s entirely possible that you’ll love it and hate it in equal measure.
The film begins with a terribly acted prologue in which an unseen entity kills lots of people in a hospital and a po-faced doctor declares, “It’s time to cut out the cancer!” We then cut to the present day, where heavily pregnant Madison (Annabelle Wallis) is beaten by her abusive husband (Jake Abel), so badly that the back of her head bleeds profusely.

“I always wanted a blood relation,” says Madison to her adopted sister in the final moments of “Malignant,” the latest terrifying concoction from horror titan James Wan. It’s meant to be a moving emotional crescendo to the film’s bloody conclusion, but the line that follows is just cheesy enough to produce eye rolls, but not so self-aware as to be funny. The result is a confusing melange of genre archetypes that lacks a clear point of view, even a surface-level stylistic one.
A dry seriousness haunts “Malignant” more than any murderous ghoul, though Wan flirts with flair in certain loud choices. Some — like the most horrific remix of “Where Is My Mind,” sure to offend Pixies fans the world over — wreak of a movie trying way too hard to be hip. Others, like a bird’s eye view pan of a house as Madison panic-scurries through each room...

"You've got to take chances, if you don't know you end making the same old thing again and again and again." Warner Bros has debuted the second trailer for Malignant, the new horror thriller from James Wan, returning to his roots with another original creation. This was initially set to open last summer, but was delayed due to the pandemic - now arriving in theaters + on HBO Max in September (watch the first trailer again). In this "new vision of terror", Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities. The cast includes Annabelle Wallis as Madison, Jake Abel, George Young, Jacqueline McKenzie, Mckenna Grace, Maddie Hasson, Ingrid Bisu, and Michole Briana White. This still seems to be a mix of Ring and A Nightmare on Elm Street, but with its own creepy twists and turns.

This article contains The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It spoilers.
Though the latest Conjuring movie, The Devil Made Me Do It, is named after the Arne Johnson murder case, whereby a young man claimed the crime he committed was caused by demonic possession, there’s an entirely new subplot that carries the body of the new film.
After the supposedly possessed Arne Johnson is held in custody awaiting trial for the murder of his girlfriend’s landlord, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are on a mission to discover how and why these possessions took place. While the Johnson case is based on real events, the reasons behind the possession, as posed within The Devil Made Me Do It, are completely fictional.
No matter! This allows the filmmakers to introduce the shadowy figure of The Occultist (played by Eugenie Bondurant), as well as...

Of all the horror films on the release schedule, perhaps one of the most intriguing and enigmatic is James Wan's Malignant. James Wan has announced that his new film Malignant has finished via Instagram and Facebook, along with this image.
Malignant comes out September 10th. I finally wrapped it last week. This was supposed to be my “little horror thriller” I do between the big ones, but the pandemic pushed it as long the big ones. I’m super excited for this film. I don’t even know how to describe it. I wanted to do something original and genre-bending, and different to my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror-thrillers I grew up with. More to come. #MalignantMovie

James Wan is probably best known for bringing us such terrifying flicks as The Conjuring series (of which you can now see the real haunted house from the original film thanks to some new photos), Saw and for being the director behind DC megahit Aquaman. His films have been massive successes, too, with The Conjuring earning nearly $320 million and the aforementioned Decu flick hauling in over $1 billion. Not to mention that everyone knows just how huge the Saw franchise has become over the years (although its quality may have dipped as the series went on).
Now, however, the horror auteur is said to be on the home stretch for his new film, Malignant. Diehard fans of the director and his movies may be quick to point out the title is very similar to Wan’s comic book Malignant Man, but from what we understand, the two aren’t connected. Rather,...

James Wan is returning to the world of horror before helming Aquaman 2 with Malignant.
James Wan's tenth feature film as director is now in production. Malignant has been described as a giallo, and stars Maddie Hasson, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Abel, George Young, Michole Briana White, and Jacqueline McKenzie.
It was confirmed that Wan would work on Malignant back in August when it was still an as-yet-untitled horror project. The film should act as a nice palate cleanser before he begins the long task of bringing Aquaman 2 to the screen for Warner Bros, and a late-2020 release date for the new celluloid scream will likely be confirmed in time.
Wan has already started three successful horror franchises in Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring - could this be the first in a new series of giallo films where Wan and others can follow in the footsteps of horror masters like Dario Argento,...
