Alfred Hitchcock is undoubtedly one of the most influential filmmakers that has ever lived and his films have made a mark on filmmakers today. He has an unusual yet affecting way of inducing suspense and intensity in his films and his works like Psycho, Rebecca, To Catch a Thief, Vertigo, North by Northwest, and The Birds are proof of that.
Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo is one of his most acclaimed films
The latter is one of Hitchcock’ most audacious films and actress Tippi Hedren was the lead of the film. The director is known for his rigorous process of bringing his vision to life and this proved to be an excruciating experience for Hedren as she got pecked at by real birds following a last-minute switch-up made by Hitchcock.

Loosely based on Daphne du Maurier's classic horror story, "The Birds" remains one of Alfred Hitchcock's most popular films. The manic action scenes are still a visual feast for modern audiences that have mostly been raised on Michael Bay explosions and the CGI-heavy fight choreography of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When hundreds of bloodthirsty birds attack the small Northern California town of Bodega Bay, it looks and feels truly terrorizing. Hitchcock famously used real birds that actually attacked the actors in an effort to make a fairly ridiculous natural phenomenon appear a little more believable to the movie-going audiences of 1963.
The abuse that lead actress Tippi Hedren endured has become the stuff of Hollywood legend. In the past, the starlet has had no qualms about calling out Hitchcock for his mistreatment. Nor should she. As the main performer on the call sheet, Hedren was expected to interact with actors Rod Taylor,...

Daphne du Maurier's unsettling horror story, "The Birds," was the inspiration behind Alfred Hitchock's 1963 horror-thriller film of the same name. Hitchcock effectively utilized the premise of violent, inexplicable bird attacks to underline the themes of love and violence and how the two were connected within the context of the narrative. The onus of bringing this unique story to life fell on Tippi Hedren, who plays Melanie, the protagonist whose presence becomes an inadvertent threat to those around her.
"The Birds" was Hedren's screen debut and according to the actor, the process of working alongside Hitchcock was not a pleasant experience. Hitchcock himself had made the harsh proclamation that "all actors should be treated like cattle" — a statement that was corroborated by the way he treated Hedren while filming "The Birds" and 1964's "Marnie." Hedren details the alleged assault she had faced in her memoir, "Tippi," explaining how Hitchcock's obsession...

It is now no secret that Tippi Hedren‘s relationship with Alfred Hitchcock was intense and potentially abusive.
In her new memoir, Tippi, the legendary actress and Hitchcock muse recounts several stressful and haunting encounters with the director: allegations of sexual assault during filming of The Birds and Marnie and the inhumane conditions Hedren endured (upon which Hitchcock insisted) while filming the climactic scene in the 1963 horror-thriller.
“Everything was building toward the famous ‘bedroom scene,'” Hedren writes of the scene in which her character Melanie suffers a vicious on-camera attack by the birds. Up until the day of filming,...

As you might know, there are two upcoming movies that take a peek behind the scenes of famous Alfred Hitchcock flicks. One is called Hitchcock and one is called The Girl. And having seen the trailer for The Girl, I can safely that of the two, it's probably the film most likely to make you feel the need for a shower after watching it.
Premiering October 20 on HBO, The Girl looks at the filming of The Birds, Hitchcock's 1963 "nature run amok" flick — specifically, his obsession with Tippi Hedren, the film's lead actress.
Where Hitch looks to be a rather classy affair, with its big-name stars (Anthony Hopkins, Scarlett Johansson) and big-screen destination, The Girl (starring Toby Jones as Hitchcock, Imelda Staunton as Hitch's wife Alma and Sienna Miller as Hedren) seems to be reveling in the tawdry and salacious.
