Last year, YouTube celebrated its tenth birthday, and since then, some of the video site’s most resilient creators have reached that milestone for their own channels. During a panel at VidCon, four of YouTube’s most-tenured stars -- Philip DeFranco, ShayCarl, Brittani Taylor, and Hank Green -- sat down to chat about the ways in which their place of work has changed over the past decade.
On the VidCon stage, the four featured YouTubers loomed large, but in their discussion, they hearkened back to a time when they were outsiders. “We were all these sheltered, broken people,” said DeFranco of YouTube’s first wave. Warts and all, they banded together because of their shared desire to form a new paradigm in entertainment. A decade later, the creators who have stuck have done so because they still love the community they helped build. “People who are still on YouTube ten...

AOL On's new series has its focus on YouTube. The online video platform has released Follow Me, a 10-episode series that dives into the off-screen lives of popular YouTubers. Follow Me is produced by Fullscreen, and all of the YouTubers featured in the series are partnered with Fullscreen's multi-channel YouTube network. Each episode centers on a specific channel and goes inside the lives of the content creators who produce content for those channels. Up first is Brittani Louise Taylor, who invites Fullscreen's camera into her home to document her as she shoots videos, does paperwork, fires off a strictly regimented number of social media updates, and completes all the other tasks required of a full-time YouTuber. Since Fullscreen has a vested interest in making its creative partners look good, there's definitely some bias in Follow Me, and the series has a generally positive vibe. At the same time, there are...

AOL unveiled 12 new original series during its presentation at Digital Content Newfronts in late April. Of that group, AOL is now set to release what is perhaps its most intriguing new offering. The online video platform has released a teaser for Follow Me, which will chronicle the off-camera lives of YouTube stars. The 10 episodes of Follow Me claim to offer behind-the-scenes access to some of the online video community's biggest stars. Included in the series' cast are Brittani Louise Taylor, 5 Second Films (5Sf), Our 2nd Life (O2L), Marquese Scott, ScrewAttack!, Secret Life of a BioNerd, fouseyTube, Black Nerd Comedy, and Megan Nicole. These diverse creators have one important commonality: They're all partners of the multi-channel network Fullscreen, which produced Follow Me for AOL. AOL has found success working alongside YouTube stars in the past, and Follow Me will up the ante by bringing in a plethora of familiar faces.

In the age of internet celebrities, Brittani Louise Taylor is more than a triple threat. Regularly making your life a lot funnier thanks to her sketches, music video parodies and Diy tips, her three YouTube channels have a combined 1.5 million subscribers. Last year’s parody of the Miley Cyrus hit “We Can’t Stop” has amassed over five million views to date. But how does a video like that become an international sensation? VH1′s Kate Spencer sat down with Brittani to go behind the making of the mock video, and find out just how easy difficult it is to mimic Miley’s tongue.
Despite using multiple costumes and locations in the spirit of Miley, the entire parody was shot in one day. Brittani did her homework, practicing her Cyrus-esque tongue movements as well as some epic twerking before getting behind the camera. But it wasn’t all easy. She’s gluten-free,...

Budweiser’s premiere commercial spot for Super Bowl Xlviii has already racked up 34 million views (and counting, quickly) since it went live on YouTube on January 29, 2014, four full days before the ad was set to air on television broadcasts nationwide. The advertisement and its viewership numbers reveal a few important things. One, Budweiser is very good at advertising. Two, everyone loves puppies and Clydesdales, and everyone especially loves puppies and Clydesdales together. And three, you’ve most likely already seen a lot of the big-budget Super Bowl ads hours or even days before the game was set to take place. The videos on YouTube’s Super Bowl commercial destination, for instance, have so far been viewed a collective 77+ million times. But what you may not have seen already are some of the fake Super Bowl ads entities that aren’t major commercial brands. YouTube, for instance, enlisted a handful of...

High-heeled shoes make great footwear for any fashionable lady, but a new campaign from Nine West shows how heels are handy around the house, too. The fashion retailer has enlisted YouTubers Jack Vale and Brittani Louise Taylor for a branded video portraying the many uses for pumps, including back scratcher, plant pot, and meat tenderizer. The video stars the top prankster and the versatile parody performer as a 50s couple on Christmas morning. Vale's husband character is initially dismayed to learn he has received a pair of pumps under the tree, but he quickly turns his frown upside down across a variety of bonus videos showing the shoes as fetch toys, cereal bowls, table shims, and much more. In addition to its status as a brilliant ad for Nine West shoes, the series of bonus videos are pretty consistently funny. Vale and Taylor pull off the Valium-induced 50s sheen well,...

YouTube personality Taryn Southern is the newest star of the style-focused Look TV channel, where she is the host of two brand new web series. The first of those two debuts to be released is My Domain, a show reminiscent of MTV's Cribs that looks inside the homes of top YouTube creators. Of course, YouTubers have more modest incomes than, say, Ludacris or Lil Wayne, so My Domain could never showcase runaway opulence in the way that has made Cribs as popular as it is. Instead, it takes a more modest approach by featuring its guests video recording setups in a way that also provides tips for up-and-coming creators. The first episode stars Olga Kay, who shows off her well-trained dog in addition to revealing her fine-tuned vlogging studio. Seriously though, her dog is awesome.
