Sunderland take on Reading this afternoon with fans at the Stadium of Light likely to be buzzing over the securing of two big new signings yesterday.
The Black Cats completed on Friday the signings of England winger Adam Johnson and Wolves striker Stephen Fletcher for deals reported by Goal.com to be worth at least £20 million combined.
25-year-old forward Fletcher could make his Wearside debut today, though the availability of Adam Johnson is less clear as his deal wasn’t confirmed until late last night.
Definitely missing for Sunderland are defender Phil Bardsley (ankle) and midfielder David Vaughn (ankle) who miss out through injury. Wes Brown (knee ligaments) has an outside chance of making the bench.
For Reading, boss Brian McDermott has no fresh injury doubts following the club’s midweek 4-2 thriller at Stamfrod Bridge.
Still missing for them are Jem Karacan (broken ankle), Jimmy Kebe (hamstring), though veteran...

If history is anything to go by, tonight’s Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Reading will be as one sided as they come.
The last time Reading beat Chelsea, Warner Bro’s had just released cartoon series Looney Tunes, and it would take a comedy of errors for Chelsea to slip up this time – they have never lost at home to tonight’s opponents, with Reading’s last victory coming in 1930.

Eden Hazard will be looking to continue his rich vein of form for his new club after getting the assists for both of Chelsea’s goals in their comfortable 2-0 win away to Wigan at the weekend.
Ramires meanwhile is set to feature having recovered from an illness that kept him out of the Blue’s squad altogether at the weekend. New signing Oscar is expected to have only a minor role,...

England’s new manager, Roy Hodgson, was in attendance to see Chelsea defeat Bayern Munich and become European Champions last night in Munich.
Before the game Hodgson insisted that Chelsea would not be “underdogs” and said they had a “good chance” of winning at the Allianz Arena – which is incidentally the home of the beaten finalists.
Four Chelsea players will don the three lions this summer. Three of them – Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Gary Cahill – helped prove Hodgson’s confidence was not misplaced. The fourth, John Terry, sat in the stands after his semi-final red card against Barcelona.
Despite Terry’s absence, Hodgson believed Chelsea had a good shot at European glory without him. But by picking him for Euro 2012, he doesn’t seem to think England can do the same.
Critics of John Terry might say that “If Chelsea can without him, so can England”. They will point...

A new face will be joining daytime talk show, The Chew. Australian chef Jason Roberts is the show's newest correspondent.
Roberts won't see much in-studio time, though. He'll be busy traveling the country in search of the best food-related stories to share with The Chew audience.
“Jason is a welcome addition to The Chew,” said Gordon Elliott, the show's executive producer. “I look forward to him sharing his incredible talents with our viewers and joining our amazing team of hosts.”...

I don't know a lot about Kiwi chef Jason Roberts beyond the fact that he's cute, and most internet pictures I see of him have him kissing various girls. But he's joining The Chew on ABC as a correspondent.
Disney formally announced they expect a $200 million write down for losses related to John Carter, which is at the high end of expectations.
Meanwhile Apple announced some plans of what they intend to do with their $100 billion in cash reserves. A dividend and a stock repurchase plan should burn through about $45 billion over three years. I remember when numbers like that were only spoken of by large countries.
And so you can get the most out of those shiny Apple products, the Faa intends to reexamine restrictions on portable electronic devices during takeoff and landing.
The Advocate has a story from Omar Sharif, Jr., grandson of the Hollywood legend, in which...

It hasn’t been the best season so far for the North West club. The departure of Sam Allardyce left a hole that many never believed Steve Kean should have been given the chance to fill, and yet the new owners decided in their infinite wisdom to give the former Celtic player (and one-time candidate for the assistant manager’s job at Chelsea) a full-time contract.
The protests cannot be helping the team on the pitch, but it is plain to see that the current state of the squad isn’t exactly the prime foundation for success either. Decimated by injuries, Kean has been forced to blood youngsters well before they would usually gain any experience in the first team, and that inexperience has at times shown badly. He will get no praise when and if those youngsters turn out to be the next big thing, especially if Rovers continue to struggle.
