ABC’s comedy pilot Steps is staying alive. ABC Studios has picked up the options of the entire cast of the project, starring Once Upon a Time alumna Ginnifer Goodwin alongside Kyle Bornheimer, Barry Rothbart, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Julie Hagerty and Cameron Boyce.
Steps, based on the Swedish format Bonus Family, is currently being retooled by the pilot’s writer Kristin Newman (The Muppets). Picking up the cast certainly is a promising sign though there has been no decision on reshooting the pilot yet.
Steps, from ABC Studios and studio-based Mandeville TV, revolves around four adults in three houses raising three kids after two divorces — together. The pilot was in serious contention for a series pickup in May and was also brought up in the immediate aftermath of ABC’s cancellation of Roseanne, when the network considered picking up another comedy series to fill the void. (ABC ultimately replaced Roseanne with spinoff The Conners.

Hulu publicly unveiled the trailer and a behind-the-scenes video for its new virtual reality (Vr) comedy “Door No. 1” Friday. The comedy, which was written and directed by Nora Kirkpatrick of “The Office” fame and produced by AOL’s Ryot exclusively for Hulu, is set to debut on the service on May 24.
Door No. 1 is a kind of live-action multiple choice comedy adventure about a ten-year high school reunion. The show puts the viewer into the middle of the action by making her or him a protagonist of the show: Alex, one of the former students attending the reunion.
Alex doesn’t talk throughout the show, but can decide to take multiple paths through the story, and make many bad decisions along the way — it’s a high school reunion, after all.
The cast for Door No. 1 included Steve Little (“Eastbound and Down”), Ravi Patel, Kyle Bornheimer (“Casual”), Missi Pyle...

Watching a Jack Russell terrier struggle to hop up on a bed at the end of “My Dog Skip” or seeing the look in a golden retriever’s eye after being told he’s not wanted anymore in “Air Bud” or recognizing the moment that a rabid Old Yeller isn’t the same family pet anymore — those are heart-shattering dog moments. But even though there are canines at the center of those stories, they say more about what it means to be human; to invest so much of yourself in a creature that will never speak your name.
That same spirit is the driving force behind “Downward Dog,” the latest ABC comedy that brings a surprising level of poignancy to a simple premise. Nan (Allison Tolman), newly broken up and drifting about at an unfulfilling marketing job, finds solace in the companionship of her dog, Martin. As the show documents...

Let’s face it, University of Southern California (USC) film Cinematic Arts school kids have it pretty well. Just getting in to what is arguably the most competitive graduate film program is a badge of respect in an industry littered with standouts amongst its alumni. George Lucas, Robert Zemeckis, Ron Howard, not to mention The Lxd director Jon M. Chu. Now the famed feeder school for Hollywood the fast track is turning its students on to the digital side with a little help from Subway. It's a first for both school and brand here, the former looking to prepare its latest breed of filmmakers for actually making a career in the emergent medium of web originals and the latter looking to polish its ‘fresh’ image amongst the film crowd. (Something other brands like Stella Artois and Audi have done in spades.) A few months back, Subway approached USC, with some help from La-based Content & Co.
