- Original guitarist in progressive rock band Yes (1968-1970). He came up with the name three years earlier, believing that short band names were good as they got printed bigger on posters.
- Friends with Phil Collins, who appeared on two of Peter's solo projects. Peter was asked to join Genesis, but instead he suggested Peter Gabriel. Coincidentally, Collins almost auditioned for Yes.
- His aptly-named 1973 solo album, "Two Sides of Peter Banks", featured an impressive list of guest musicians, including Jan Akkerman, John Wetton, Steve Hackett and Phil Collins.
- Peter has been in the following bands: The Nighthawks (1963-1964), Devil's Disciples (1964-1965), The Syndicats (early 1966), The Syn (early 1966 - November 1967), Mabel Greer's Toyshop (December 1968 - June 1968), Neat Change (July 1968), Yes (August 1968 - April 1970), Blodwyn Pig (September- November 1970), Jungle Pilot (November 1970), Flash (September 1971 - early 1974), Empire (March 1974 - 1980), Zox And The Radar Boys (mid-1973), The Teabags (1980), The Peter Banks Band (September - October 1981), Gypsy Lovers (late 1981), Bron Co. Express (1982-1983), The Syn (2004), Peter Banks Trio (2004), Harmony In Diversity (2004-2013) and Old Cranks (2012-2013). He was approached by Geoff Downes to join Asia in 1998.
