Lady Gaga promised a $500,000 award for the return of her French bulldogs Koji and Gustav after they were stolen in a February 24, 2021 robbery that left her dog walker critically wounded.
Now, Jennifer McBride, a 50-year-old woman who was connected to and arrested for the dognapping but returned the dogs two days later, is suing Lady Gaga for three times that amount, claiming that Gaga’s failure to pay the reward has caused her mental anguish, pain, suffering and instability.
According to court documents, McBride’s attorney said that the 13-time Grammy award-winning artist had breached a “no questions asked” agreement and that she hid an “intent to defraud and induce members of the public, such as Plaintiff, to rely upon it and act upon said promise by locating and delivering [her] bulldogs to Defendants.”
Following the robbery, McBride was given two years probation and charged with one count of receiving stolen property.

The man who shot and wounded Lady Gaga’s dog walker and stole her French bulldogs last year took a plea deal and was sentenced to 21 years in prison on Monday, officials said.
The Lady Gaga connection was a coincidence, authorities have said. The motive was the value of the French bulldogs, a breed that can run into the thousands of dollars, and detectives do not believe the thieves knew the dogs belonged to the musician.
James Howard Jackson, one of three men and two accomplices who participated in the violent robbery and its aftermath, pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. It was not immediately clear which attorney represented Howard on Monday.

Updated with latest: A man who shot Lady Gaga’s dog walker during the theft of two of the singer’s French bulldogs pleaded no contest today to an attempted murder charge and was immediately sentenced to 21 years in prison.
James Howard Jackson, 20, pleaded no contest to the single count of attempted murder with great bodily injury, while also admitting a prior strike, in connection with the Feb. 24, 2021 attack on Lady Gaga’s longtime dog walker, Ryan Fischer, who was in court Monday for the hearing and blasted the defendant, saying the shooting changed his life forever.
In exchange for his plea to the attempted murder count, prosecutors dismissed charges of second-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and being a felon carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle.
“The plea agreement holds Mr. Jackson accountable for perpetrating a cold-hearted violent act and provides justice for our victim,...

Tokyo – As the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) roars back into life this year after two years of going hybrid, it brings along with it the jejune of milestones and the dim realities that have beleaguered the Japanese film industry, pre- and during the pandemic.
In one of the festival’s most notable highlights, Japanese director Koji Fukada and Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu were accorded the 2022 Kurosawa Akira Award on Oct. 29, the re-emergence of which after 14 years could not have come at a more critical time according to Hiroyasu Ando, chairman of this year’s filmfest.
“A family member of Kurosawa told me that justice and humanity have been the underlying common themes of his films,” Ando said during the awarding ceremony. Looking at the world now, the former diplomat-turned TIFF head said that these are the very same things we currently “need the most.” “The rebirth...

The Maria Beetle author, alongside the director and writer of its big screen adaptation Bullet Train, have opened up about the film’s decision to cast non-Japenese actors in the upcoming Sony feature film.
In an interview with The New York Times, author Kōtarō Isaka was asked about how his story — which was originally published in Japan in 2010 and had its English language debut in print last year — has been adapted by Hollywood.
According to the Times, the author regards his characters as “ethnically malleable,” and maintains his original Japanese setting and context do not matter as much, as the story’s ragtag crew of killers are “not real people, and maybe they’re not even Japanese.”
Bullet Train, Sony’s big screen adaptation of the story about a high-speed rail full of assassins, features a cast of Black, Latino, Asian and white talent from the U.

Brad Pitt in a bucket hat? Yes, please! "Bullet Train," which hits theaters on Aug. 5, features Pitt facing some tough competition as he returns to a career as an assassin. "Every job I do, somebody dies," he says in one of the trailers. "I'm not that guy anymore." Well, the passengers on said train might have other plans. The cast includes Bad Bunny, Sandra Bullock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Logan Lerman, and Andrew Koji, and they've all got their eyes on the same prize.
While the movie was filmed during the pandemic, we were able to get an initial peek at some actors in costume when King posted a picture she took with Henry back in January 2021. "Please have your tickets ready for the killer, I mean conductor," she wrote. Based on the Japanese book "Maria Beetle" by Kotaro Isaka,...
