Modern horror is a little light on big names but one who should certainly be bigger is Jason Blum. He’s not exactly a household name but a man who almost single-handed seems to be responsible for virtually all the theatrically released horror content of the last few years, a man who can count the Paranormal Activity films, the Insidious (soon to be) franchise, last year’s well received Sinister and even Barry Levinson’s eco-horror The Bay among his successes. While not all of his films hit (the forthcoming Lords of Salem appears to have attained anti-buzz for instance), he still seems to be a man who takes horror seriously and seems to see it as much as a legitimate genre as...

Title: Dark Skies Director: Scott Stewart Starring:Keri Russell, Josh Hamilton, Dakota Goyo, Kadan Rockett, Josh Stamberg, Lj Benet, and J.K. Simmons Dark Skies starts out as a fairly standard haunted house film with a sci-fi alien paranormal twist and slowly reveals itself to actually be a teen angst movie in disguise. The movie is sufficiently eerie and well shot, successfully delivering all the uneasy music cues and scares to be expected in a Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Sinister) produced film, along with the typical set up of a seemingly normal suburban home that happens to a house a family being plagued by a barrage of unexplained spooky things, complete with [ Read More ]

Title: Dark Skies Directed By: Scott Stewart Starring: Keri Russell, Josh Hamilton, Dakota Goyo, Kadan Rockett, J.K. Simmons, L.J. Benet, Annie Thurman “Dark Skies” is far from a haunting masterpiece, but the February debut, lack of pre-release screenings and rather weak promotional effort gave the film a much poorer reputation than it deserves. The Barretts are struggling with some financial issues, but otherwise, live a nice life in a quaint suburban neighborhood – that is until their home becomes the focal point of inexplicable, disturbing events. Lacy and Daniel (Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton) are able to dismiss the first few bumps in the night as alarm malfunctions and bad [ Read More ]

One of our favorite short films of the year, The Legend of Beaver Dam (review here), is poised to make a splash at this year's Sundance Film Festival screening ahead of the highly anticipated Hobo with a Shotgun in the "Park City at Midnight" lineup, and we've got all the info for ya!
The short tells the story of Danny Zigwitz, a nerdy youngster who needs to save his fellow campers from a bloody massacre when a campfire ghost story comes to life. Little kids, an evil monster, a gory fight to the death in the woods — and it's a rock musical.
It has already won several awards, including "Best Horror Short Film" at Fantastic Fest and "Best Short Film" at both Screamfest La and Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya, the number one fantasy/horror fest in the world. Believe us when we say it deserves every damned one of them,...

In what should be very familiar territory with any film goer, tv watcher or avid reader, the idea of another campfire horror tale probably doesn’t make for the most exciting stimuli because if you’ve seen one, you might think you’ve seen them all. Well, you haven’t seen one that is a combination splatter fest/rock opera/romantic comedy/revenge slasher!
